Savir Wheeler now plays for Marshall and he doesn’t start. He’s got to be pushing 25 and collecting a pension at this point.

Is any other school signed with JMI?

There's some guys astro turfing Rafters in defense of JMI and they argue that UCLA and Notre Dame have deals with JMI. What I read is that Notre Dame uses them for marketing almost exclusively and UCLA does use them for NIL consulting, but nobody bent over quite like Mitch did when it came time to hammer out a deal.

I was joking with my dad the other day that this must be what it felt like to be a Louisville fan in the mid to late 2010s-early 2020's but I had no idea just how similar we were going to get.

This is top tier level corruption.

If the benefit of having JMI is protecting everyone involved, why tf can't you talk concrete numbers with kids? It sounds like people are (correctly) calling UK on their BS of trying to sell kids future deal instead of solid figures.

Tough look.

Last negative point then I'm talking myself into JQ being a top 5 pick with Krazy: Juxtapose Kerr Krissa breaking his foot and then hustling back against Gonzaga vs Garrison loafing last night.

Have to beat the Hoosiers.

I have no doubt that Mitch was pressured sold into this by JMI. The talking point being that the GOVT was going to pass law and Mitch would look like a pioneer making a great deal before everyone.

This guy better have one more trick up his sleeve to evade his terrible decisions or the pressure will be on for him to get out and that consultant position may not be available.

So, I don't understand how both can be true -> We nearly doubled the next closest CBB team in payroll and JMI is handicapping our recruiting efforts. The biggest question for Pope coming into the job was, can he recruit the talent needed to win at Kentucky's expectations. Furthermore, when a company commits a HALF BILLION dollars to you, they will probably have a few restrictions. I don't have any love for/against JMI... but the tea leaves suggest this is dead air nonsense. Pope needs to figure out with the quickness how to close elite talent, whether in the portal, or HS. It's becoming a thing now. So, sniff out the agents clearly using us to drive up value. The main point, raised by a national guy in early fall, (lack of)playing time is used against us in a big way, and it's a legit concern. Studs don't want to come here and play 20-23 minutes a game.

Go over pay for one of those big recruits and be done with it.

The JMI NIL issues have really started this recruiting cycle. There was a lot more flexibility last round (no cap or revenue sharing rules in effect yet) and they are struggling immensely with it this year while everyone else seems to have adjusted well and haven’t had trouble signing recruits.

Matt said yesterday that Mitch is playing by rules he hope end up in place that aren’t in affect yet and probably never will be for some odd reason and it’s hurting us.

Combine that with the minutes issue that no doubt everyone is using as negative recruiting and the fact we should have already had a GM by now and it’s a recipe for disaster.

Missed out on Lendenbourg and Donovan Dent, sure, but there’s a long list of other targets with presumably reasonable price tags that we could sure use right now. One of them might be giving us that work on Saturday. But what about Silas Demery, Peja’s son, Mackenzie Mgbako, Jason Pierre, etc? There’s a long list of guys who should’ve been gettable who would’ve helped this team.

Don’t know if it’s minutes or what, but it seems much more like a payroll distribution issue than it does being unable to afford players.

I just don't think he has the recruiting chops. Maybe JMI and Mitch's killjoy bullsh*t are causing issues but it seems like not much has changed with our recruiting other than we're dogshit on the court and every wart is being magnified.

Trilly had like his first 2 notable misses on UK whiffs in the spring.

So at the moment, and I know nothing is concrete anymore, we have returning or possible returning players of:

Lowe/JJ
Candler
Kam Williams/Noah
Jelavic/Mo D
Garrison/Moreno

And that’s leaving JQ off the list knowing he will be a top 20 pick, but that could change too if he struggles or is injured again.

Not saying anyone won’t be able to earn a spot over any of those guys but if you were 18 and seeing that and being given any advice about what to do why on earth would you commit to a school with that many returnee’s and knowing at best you’d get 15-25 minutes.

I’ve felt since watching him last year that Popes demeanor and coaching style was very much suited for upperclassmen and transfers that were self motivated. He doesn’t seem to be the motivating get in your face style that younger players typically need. That being said, I don’t even know if he recognizes that himself because even the players we retained in Garrison and Oweh don’t seem to be able to motivate themselves. Butler, Carr, even Krissa last year played with constant intensity. He needs to try and target those guys, and unfortunately he really has about 6 months to figure it out because if next year plays out like this year he’s likely done.

I'd say minimum a 1/4 of those dudes aren't here next year and only Moreno is a deserving starter at this point. Hopefully, Lowe and Johnson progress nicely, skeptical.

The rest are #6-10 men on any normal UK team.

Just took a good look at the rest of the schedule.
6-4 record. 21 games left.
Although something like 19-11 or better is possible, so is 15-16, or worse.

Does nobody else think a losing season, early SEC tourney exit, and no March madness gets Pope fired this year?
I think it is very possible. Especially if we have a new AD?

So JMI's other prominent client schools are the other programs who are on the verge of irrelevance despite great pedigrees because they refuse to innovate? Checks out.

We have no idea if JMI has anything to do with recruiting woes -- and that's the issue. It is the radio silence by UK and JMI that cause all of these issues. A 15 year deal with a public university is obscene, especially for some novel concept, and even more especially when Mitch's righthand gal is married to an exec at JMI. That gives every single appearance of impropriety possible.

I have no idea what JMI really does. I know that what they are responsible for is obviously a piss-poor product that gives zero ***** about the fan experience and instead is all about revenue generation. The JMI coverage of UK events, for instance, could not possibly be worse.

This fan base is pissed and either Barnhart or JMI going Baghdad Bob about the terrible product and results in both basketball and football will only fuel the speculation.

If UK wants to change the narrative, all they have to do is some PR and basic explanation to their fans. JMI could be a great thing for helping us win games in revenue sports but they sure as hell haven't done anything to let anyone know about it.

I just don’t see anyway he’s let go this year, and I absolutely don’t think he should be either. He earned at least one year to figure it out after last years performance.

Now we know why Mitch hired Pope. He is a "yes" man. Mitch knew he had a guy he could strong arm and make as much money as possible for UK. Pope is showing MAJOR big time college basketball flaws. He is just not ready and in way over his head. Rule # 1, NEVER get emotional in ANY kind of negotiations, you are dead from the start. Trying to intimidate, big time, and bully cocky 17-20 year old stud players, nah, nothing could go wrong. These reports are VERY alarming and 100% this issue at hand.

That whole thing reads to me like the deal is to strictly protect the business partners fronting the money for the NIL deals in the first place. At least someone's interest is getting protected during all this except it's definitely not the consumers.

Hell they did breakout the checkbook for Calzada, DJ "hamstring" Waller, and $22 million for the bball team. It's not like they sat on money to avoid those choices.

Also, reading the article it definitely comes with an agenda.

It's on Pope to sack up and land some real talent, though. Time to get sh*t right.

Just want to say this place a cess pool right now. So many idiots posting in here. I’m a long time lurker and really enjoyed the smart takes in GYERO over the years. Sadly, 90% of that is gone now and even sadder, has been replaced with absolute dumbasses.

Sorry not to add anything of relevance myself but that was never my job. I just wanted to read good info. I’m afraid the transition ran off all the good posters, and it appears the inundation of retards has kept them away.

I’d love to plead for the good guys to return but they may have checked out completely from this place. Something perhaps I should do as well.

All I got.

- I don’t see why people keep saying they paid 22M or Calzada because as I read it the deal just started in August, correct?

- Also I think the bigger issue for this season was Oweh, Mo D and Garrison not being what Pope expected, so far. I mean Oweh is entering Rod Rhodes level of WTF.

We will still make the tournament and I think we will be solid in SEC play.

Anyone that thinks Pope doesn’t have it could be right, but he has been coaching for years now and there was no sign that a little adversity was going to break the guy. He’ll be fine and all this second guessing comes with the territory.

- Fired up for this DC. Let’s get away from the nonsense of laying back and hoping teams don’t carve us up. Force the action!

If only JMI had some PR experience or better yet, was in the communications business, they might be handling the messaging better.

Pitino broke Rod Rhodes… kid was everything BUT Jamal Mashburn 🥺. Tragic character IMO.

Rhodes as a JR averaged 12.9 and 3.8 with 3.5 assist a game. Oweh is 14.4 4.2 and 2.4 assist a game.

Both were better than that and self checked in different ways but for me both are levels of WTF that I don’t get, and I wasn’t happy then with Rhodes just like I’m thinking we’d be better without THIS version of Oweh that we’ve gotten.

Neither proved to be dependable leaders but hopefully Oweh turns it around.

"We're giving 100 percent coach."

"ARE you though? Really?"
