Mostly tongue in cheek. Even if somehow he ended up being our best player, our next 5 best players, led by our point guard, would be back court players.

Seton Hall head coach Shaheen Holloway was at Peach Jam and The Hall has been heavily linked to Hines — with one industry source saying it is “done” to Seton Hall.

“Seton Hall is definitely in the mix but it’s not 100 percent,” Cross said.

He's definitely the type of recruit we would have pursued aggressively in the pre-NIL era, and been happy to land because of the long term potential. He was a big time football player/recruit who more recently focused on hoops. I don't know if the academic or other "issues" have been cleared up, but at this point it is a "no lose" situation for us anyway, because who were we realistically getting. The key is going to be if the kid shows positive signs of contributing or development being able to retain him beyond this year. Because I think he already has a rep of being "transient" in nature.

Also I didn't realize Oz Cross was advising him -- another blast from the past of the prep recruiting.

this guy is probably a bit of a mystery to teams, so they just need another team like shu to make an offer and it's good enough justification to place a bid.

this scenario has happened every year since i've been a fan at shu and whitehead is the only one we've ever won.

The way I read it he is not coming to SHU. We are low man on the totem pole of offers coming his way that he will be tempted by. He only comes if his family wants him to stay in NJ and then there is RU lurking.

RU has a bad NIL situation and he clearly said he wants to go to a team that has capable guards.

A late Win for Sha. Hines becomes Sha's top HS recruit as a Head Coach. Helps add some excitement to this year's team that now could be a fun team to watch. Doesn't change the expectations as a back-half BE roster but the team has a lot more reasons to watch than last year with players that have some ability to develop.

Also I never appreciated Mike Gordon is (a) Plainfield's head coach and (b) is our own Derek's older brother. Mike played at my alma mater and was a good PG there.
Never knew he was Derrick's brother either. When DG was at Seton Hall there were articles about his twin brother and mother but dont recall ever reading about Mike Gordon. I just searched and found an article Jerry wrote when Derrick made his announcement at UMass with several quotes from Mike who was a Plainfield assistant at the time.

His son is a helluva player - scored his 1,000th point as a Sophomore. He and Hines were a deadly duo.

Add in Payday Moore and most probably Avent next season and the future is starting to look bright again
Avent's son would be golden. Keeping NJ kids home and in the Hall family. Payday Moore is a proven stud.

This could be the start of something special. Add in Plainfield Coach Gordon's son, who is Class of '27, I think, and we will be selling out the Rock in due time!

If Hines can provide a solid 20 mpg as a stay-at-home defender that rebounds close to what he did in HS and provides a shot-blocking presence, I'll take it. He is a target for the guards to finish around the rim. As a freshman I don't expect any polished post moves (it sounds like he isn't ready to put the ball on the floor) and run too many set plays through him as his FT shooting needs improvement. Needs to minimize fouls and stay on the floor.

Hines does take pressure off a very lean frontcourt. Can Godswill, Payne, Suemnick and an occasional wing provide enough quality minutes in that other 60 mpg at the 4/5?

If we are hiring any new coaches, I wonder if we consider Gordon?
