With regard to women's tennis, we beat Nebraska and Penn State this year. The head coach is relatively new. Assistant coach who just started with us is Catarina Lindqvist who is a former professional player who made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon and the Australian Open. I doubt any other Big Ten teams can claim to have a coach with such credentials. We got the NJ state champ last year and it looks like a pretty good transfer coming in from Texas tech next year. Tennis just needs a couple good players to insert in the line up to be competitive in the Big Ten. I would say, like most sports, the facilities are holding us back. While football gets a new multimillion dollar (unnecessary) locker room, the rest of the Olympic teams have to wait in line for the crumbs. Need to give them some time to let things shake out.
“For the crumbs”???
Baseball/softball - new indoor hitting and pitching facility (need MAJOR donations for new stadiums ...paging Mr Frazier!!)
Soccer(2)/Lax(2) - Rodman Center
Wrestling/Gymnastics - Barbara’s Center
Golf - indoor facility on the agenda; PGA sanctioned course
Crew - boathouse renovation less than 15 years old IIRC
That leaves tennis, track/cc, volleyball remaining programs that need to get shut done. I’d say, since joining the B1G, we’ve moving forward very well with MOST sports in terms of facilities.
