With regard to women's tennis, we beat Nebraska and Penn State this year. The head coach is relatively new. Assistant coach who just started with us is Catarina Lindqvist who is a former professional player who made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon and the Australian Open. I doubt any other Big Ten teams can claim to have a coach with such credentials. We got the NJ state champ last year and it looks like a pretty good transfer coming in from Texas tech next year. Tennis just needs a couple good players to insert in the line up to be competitive in the Big Ten. I would say, like most sports, the facilities are holding us back. While football gets a new multimillion dollar (unnecessary) locker room, the rest of the Olympic teams have to wait in line for the crumbs. Need to give them some time to let things shake out.

“For the crumbs”???

Baseball/softball - new indoor hitting and pitching facility (need MAJOR donations for new stadiums ...paging Mr Frazier!!)

Soccer(2)/Lax(2) - Rodman Center

Wrestling/Gymnastics - Barbara’s Center

Golf - indoor facility on the agenda; PGA sanctioned course

Crew - boathouse renovation less than 15 years old IIRC

That leaves tennis, track/cc, volleyball remaining programs that need to get shut done. I’d say, since joining the B1G, we’ve moving forward very well with MOST sports in terms of facilities.

You realize that is funded by a $4MM donation right? Feel free to call Greg and Anna Brown directly and let them know we don’t need their money and unnecessary locker room until they donate to woman’s tennis.

Of course I am aware that it was a private donation - I was there when Ash and the Browns made the big announcement. I just don't see the need for it having seen the current locker room - there are a lot of actual playing fields and facilities in dire need of upgrades (tennis, softball, baseball, track & field, crew, volleyball). Greg and Anna Brown can do whatever they want with their money but it irks me that Ash/Hobbs went crying for money for THAT when so much else needs to be done. Priorities are a bit screwed up from my viewpoint.

Our locker room didn’t fit the whole team! You think that’s acceptable?

Again, feel free to call them directly. And crying for money? Pat’s job is to raise money and he’s done that better than any AD in our history including crying for an academic support facility and state of the art practice facility that will also support wrestling and gymnastics.

This is the problem with NJ... constant biting of the hand that feeds you. Just be happy he’s finally making things happen.

As a former wrestler I almost witnessed my sport get cut so I feel your pain. At that point I decided to start donating. Now I donate to both RU wrestling and the SKWC and I help sponsor a scholarship with other ex wrestlers. Bottom line is we decided to do our part. I’m sure you do as well, but taking pot shots at a man whose doing tons for RU athletics, especially our Olympic sports just seems counter productive.

As for the locker room it absolutely needed an upgrade. It hasn’t changed since I stepped in there for the first time in 1994. If you want to compete in football at any level in this conference and attract the right coach and recruits then this type of expenditure is necessary.
