I thought the holding against RU last year was ridiculous. I'm not a conspiracy nut but I thought maybe there was no way the Big Ten wanted RU to come in and compete right away.
It's just as bad this year. On many replays, you can clearly see MSU blatantly holding.

The frustrating thing about holding is that it occurs on virtually every play of every game but is typically only called when it is blatant. Didn't seem to be the case last night. Arcidiacono got flagged for what looked like a nice pancake block on tv yet MSU's receiver was clearly holding the RU DB on an MSU TD and got away with it. Refs certainly can't catch everything - just wish it wouldn't seem so random when it gets called.

I saw that and thought he should have gotten a high five for that block rather than a yellow hanky. I'm guessing that when they go over the tape on that play that he will get congrats rather than getting chewed out by the coaches.

That was a wtf? call no doubt. Missing a call is one thing, as you say they can't watch everything. No excuse for phantom calls though.

When refs see a player go down from a block, I think they automatically think it was a hold/tackle and throw a flag. I also thought when they showed it that it looked clean to me.

Doesn't it suck that the officiating has been anti-RU in every game this year?!? Or maybe, just maybe, we're biased

I just watched the 60 minute replay and now I am really mad - among the blatant holds, the worst was that bear hug put on RU#14 on that last WR sweep -- the runner absolutely would not have been able to make that cut without it and it would have put them out of FG range instead of giving them a nice gain. At the game I was most mad about the missed grounding call, offensive PI and procedure (RT clearly not set) which all occurred on the last two plays of MSU's third TD drive. Now I am mad about the holds.

The refs swallowed their whistle a lot - but we have to adapt to that. Case in point, Laviano should have tossed the ball on the last 3rd down instead of taking the sack - the refs had shown that they were being *very* lenient on intentional grounding, and he should have at least made an attempt. What's the worst, they call it grounding and a sack anyway?

With the obvious holds on their OLine (I remember one guy had Turay by the hand keeping him from getting to Cook), our OLine should have started gripping more, too. I remember only two holding calls all game, and none on Olinemen that I can recall.

Need to adapt to what the refs are calling.

And to take a page out of D'Antonio's book, we should have been interfering on some of those longer passing plays instead of giving them the chance of making the play. Better a 15 yard penalty than a big gainer - as he did against us in 2006.
