I knew the Knicks picked up Jose Alvarado recently a the name hit me this was the same guy out of Christ the King that Willard missed when we were in his final two and lost out to Georgia Tech. I didn’t realize he had NBA talent. Wasn’t he ranked outside Top 100, around 120 as a senior in high school? Maybe 2018? He’s a great fit for the Knicks as a defensive stopper.

Paging Cern...
I liked Alvarado. But I think you thinking about another player that I was high on. He was from the west coast who turned out to have a pretty decent career Cezar Guerrero. I actually did mention him to Willard personally. he just blew me off. Meanwhile he thought that guys like Freddie Wilson- Sean Grennan would be better.

It’s all part of my ideal college point guards are lighting quick small point guards who just create havoc on the court.

This was the class that we prioritized Trevon Duvall and whiffed. Then went after Isaiah Washington and whiffed. Then went after Alvarado and whiffed. Then settled for Jordan Walker - who turned out to be the best college player of the four - and ran him off.

Solid work with that class Willard.

We didn’t have the resources to get any of the above players mentioned but he probably should have been aware of that and not wasted time

Alvarado committed to GT in Sept of 2016

Duvall committed to Duke in May of 2017

We held out for Duvall to add a big piece to go with our returning senior class.

Sha in an interview said we had him, and at the last minute changed his mind. Same old story rinse and repeat.

Speaking of, Willard was recently on with Jon Rothstein and said to this day one of the toughest recruiting battles was Kyle Anderson.

Holloway had him locked up until UCLA greatly sweetened the pot. Offered $2M, a home for his mom and sister and a modeling job for his sister.

Throw in a call from his boyhood hero Magic Johnson, who he named his dog after and we were out of the picture.

Years later Anderson said he made a big mistake not coming to Seton Hall.

Grand Theft Alvarado!

Undrafted but carved out a spot for himself with pure energy, by playing extremely hard, pressuring on defense, getting steals and igniting the crowd.

His signature move is hiding near the sidelines or behind an official after a made basket and sneaking up from behind, stealing the ball from players bringing the ball up the floor.

In just a few games off the bench with the Knicks, he's already had 2 games with 5 steals and blew up for 26 points in 19 minutes in his 2nd game.

Nice trade for the Knicks who now have Jalen Brunson, Tyler Kolek & Jose Alvarado as their PGs.
