Is Monangai off to the NFL after this year?

He would get drafted if he entered.
He's leading B1G rusher (903) and blocks better than most RBs in NFL now - QBs would love him.
He's not a huge breakaway guy over 30 yds but he's fast enough and makes great cuts with balance
I'm curious why he rarely gets thrown to
An Ohio INT came off a pass to him but that was due to coverage

The coaches seem to like the freshman RB for swing passes. IMO, that Gavin put a little to much on the ball to Monangai, but will need to watch again in slow motion.

Nah, he will be back. Program guy. If he blows up even more next year, dare I say would be a first rounder …

He should get NIL deal.
Its hard not to leave if healthy
I've seen RU guys get jacked-up in last year

OSU’s Henderson is a first rounder if any RB is a first rounder (although teams rarely draft RB’s in the first round any longer). KM, while lacking most elite RB attributes, does have elite strength/balance combined with a low center of gravity. An NFL coach would need to use him wisely (he’s more of a small fullback …less explosive than Ray Rice…and not a 3rd down back so finding a roster spot might be tough at first) for him to be effective at that level…so being an UDFA might serve him well.

Generally RBs are not going to get drafted high, unless they are freakish. It’s difficult to project where he would be drafted. He does not have ideal size and isn’t overly fast . He has quickness, great feet, patience and vision which is essential. I don’t think he would be drafted in the first 3 or 4 rds. I think he will be back at RU. Terrific college RB.

The big unknown secret of the NFL- UDFA doesn’t serve any player well

That pass was a slight overthrow
Granted he would have taken a big hit and maybe not hung into it anyway, but probably no pick

He’s not comfortable catching the ball out of the backfield. We are better off throwing to aaron young out of the backfield.

I highly doubt he leaves. He lacks the measurables to be drafted and the UDFA route doesn’t pan out more often than not.

I expect him to be back with a big NIL deal and then off to the NFl as a mid round draft pick most likely.
Wow. I hope you’re his agent. I doubt he can increase his top end speed at this point but he can probably get a tiny bit stronger yet (although he’s already very strong).
Emmitt Smith was listed at 5’9” 220. KM is listed at 5’9” 210 fwiw.

Ray Rice was 5ft8 199lbs at the combine. he ran a 4.46 which he never ran during his career here. These guys get 2-3 months to live breath and eat combine events. They don't even do a single football move during that time. They have specialists teaching them how to run a 40 and then they need to forget everything they learn about the 40 when they get back on the field.

I meant football game top end speed…not the 40 time. Henderson and some other RB’s have elite top end speed and burst. KM is an undersized fullback but with great feet/balance. He ain’t gonna be outrunning DB’s in the NFL.

Kyle needs to stay just as Blake Corum did at Michigan. Monangai is a player who needs to benefit from NIL. Better get hopping on the Monangai train. Would love to see him go over 1k yards and Rutgers defeat Iowa at their place. Tough but we actually owe them some payback .

my point is that RR was looked at the same way

Ozzie Newsome said he drafted Rice because every pile he ran into he ran out of on the other side.
Mongo does that and he breaks the 25 yard runs like Rice too.
Rice was better than all the RBs taken before him except Chris Johnson.
McFadden was a straight ahead sprinter running through huge holes at Ark.

RR was over 15 years ago.
Terrible comparison when looking at the 2024 NFL Draft.
Have to consider the value and attributes of current RB draft prospects.

This is similar to people saying "How can Edey not leave for the draft? He'd have been a Top 5 pick 15 years ago."

The game has changed so much for running backs. You are better off not getting drafted high if you believe in yourself. If you get drafted high you will get a 5 year contract with a low value. Go in prove yourself and sign a big contract after a year or two while your prime. Prime for running backs seems to peak at 25 years old anymore.

Why would he be. He risks getting lit up with the high soft passes.
They don't all have to be passes across the middle
Yesterday the RZ pass to Dremel looked very lame.
First off the Ohio defense read it right away (70s offense announcers called it)
Secondly the 4 defenders waiting on the ball planted Dremel like lint.
I'd much rather see a gut like Mongo get the 2 yd pass because he routinely blows through tackle gangs

I havent watched the NFL in a very long time. It has changed quite a lot.

From the article:

On average, running backs currently make $1.808 million a season. The only positions that running backs make more than are long snappers ($1.069 million), punters ($1.52 million), and fullbacks ($1.724 million). The average kicker even out earns a running back as they make $2.196 million a season in the NFL.

Unlike every other position in the NFL, the franchise tag for running backs has actually experienced a decrease since 2015.

Now that that play is on tape you can sneak Langan into the end zone (after JL does a quick glancing block) after GW gives a full pump fake to the right.

If he hits for over 100 in the next 3 games, can his stock get any higher?

Really hope he's here next year but we aren't going to throw to him in the flat. What's he get out of another year?

Runs better than IP through traffic imo.

Someone said above that there are only so many miles that a RB can get in the minds of NFL teams. If he's going in the mid rounds (I think a strong end to the year will help), it makes sense to go now. This will allow him to get an extra year in the league and have a higher chance at a decent second contract.

With that said, I'd love to have him back and use him and Sam Brown to punish opposing defenses. I selfishly want him back, but totally get why he would leave for the NFL.
