Is Shapen still with the team?...

Sorry if this has been asked and I missed it.

The rumor seems to be that he won't be there for the bowl game but have not heard anything definite.

Another question, would you blame him for leaving?

I wouldn't blame him for transferring if he had eligibility left.

But with him being out of eligibility, I don't necessarily blame him but hate it for him if he skips out. It's not like he wasn't given a fair shot. We win the florida game and he's probalby not benched. If the OLine doesn't just make it imperative that we have somebody that can scramble and keep us ahead of the sticks he's probably not benched. Understand being disappointed but hope he can enjoy one last game with the team. I would assume this is it for him unless he does CFL or arena leagues, so hate to see him pass on it, even if he likely won't play or won't play much.

Blame him??? I'd help him pack and load, his ship has sailed. He's walking away w/ 1 win last season total before injury, 1 conference win under his belt this season, 4 other cupcake wins this season and whole bunch of fan cash. Adios.......

Edited: And now Lebby has announced that he's left to train for "Pro Day and the combines", what a joke

While I was fond of Shapen and thought he showed some moxie this year given the patchwork line…..he agreed to a deal and got his money. That’s what it’s all about these days isn’t it********
We've decided to make college football 100% about money, and therefore shouldn't get upset when anyone involved makes a financial decision.

Most NIL deals are backloaded to where you have to play a bowl game (if your team makes one) to get a portion of it, so it would surprise me if he didn’t show up to collect that check. It’s the last big check he’s going to get playing sports.
Kinda weird that so many players opt out of the bowl games, then.

It'd be interesting to see actual NIL agreements, since there is so much rumor/misinformation/misunderstanding/guessing when it comes to the specifics.

That info came from Borkey on Sportstalk MS. He said it was a major reason they had very few opt outs last year. I guess some teams don’t do it that way. I would imagine we do.

To clarify, I was not disagreeing with you or disbelieving your comment.
Your comment just sparked that thought of mine because it is something I have thought about often over the last few years when talk of NIL details come up.

I would love to see one of the agreements drawn up by the Collectives, AND some of these University contracts for revenue sharing. Just the templates, I don't need to see any actual numbers (although I wouldn't mind seeing that). They are being closely guarded and the athletes and their agents probably signed confidentiality clauses.

Backloading the payments is possible, but the contracts are not supposed to be performance based. OTOH, the news articles said FSU was refusing to pay revenue sharing if players did not participate in games. Even for injury. Which may or may not be legal, but is certainly a ****** way to treat the athletes.

Yeah that’s not where it started.

But I agree with not having much heart.
Where do you think it started, then?

It literally started with NCAA v. Bd. Of Regents in 1984, that stripped the NCAA of control over TV revenue. That wasn't really plaintiffs attorneys, though; it was a suit by universities wanting more money.

Every one of the changes giving more benefits and money to players has come from anti-trust suits against the NCAA.

I noticed him on the sidelines during the egg bowl and he seemed engaged. I’d be surprised if he decided to leave the team now. But I don’t really care if he does.

I got no ill will toward Shapen but I definitely don’t have fond memories either. I never doubted shapen’s effort. He just unfortunately is not good enough and honestly maybe regressed in his time at state.

I thought we all had fond memories of the ASU game, at least.

He should be there with the team unless he has a job lined up somewhere, which is possible. He probably got his undergraduate degree more than a year ago.

I guess that’s one way to describe 4 punts, 2 TO on downs and an INT
Ahead of the sticks may be sugarcoating but whatever the end result, limiting negative plays when the line does a ****** job. We're obviously not good either way, but being 2nd and 9 leaves us better off than 2nd and 14.

On the surface it does provide more hope, but I'd counter with 64% is better off than 54%

I don’t think “we” decided anything.. I think the players decided to make it all about money… so all about money it is.

Without reading this thread, I would have to say yes, he is still around.
I would suspect there is a payday involved if he actually plays or not.
