His cancelling of his upcoming visit to SHU is not a good sign
So nothing but stringing us along to keep his dad happy and to not deal with the blowback if he immediately dismissed us
Other than energizing the fanbase, winning high school recruiting battles for non-elite prospects provides minimal ROI. An argument could be made it's even counterproductive - allocating salary budget and dedicating roster spots to players that are not ready to compete now is foolish. It's especially foolish when you consider the transfer rate is close to 70%.
If you have a $10M NIL budget, sure you can afford to take risks like that but if you are playing in the $5M sandbox you can't do that.

That is a great take. I haven't come around to that way of thinking yet (for better or for worse), but you're not wrong.
I had hoped that Avent would choose us, given the legacy, and the fact that his younger brother, who was not a D-1 athlete, was comped a 4 year ride to SHU.
One side gives a positive report while the other side cancels the visit. Would like to sit in the sales meeting where a salesman has to explain how this happened.

Not in this case, as the budget will always be our issue and it kills whoever the coach is. And it seems like the details are far less damning of the staff than I assumed.
This is my point. Don't lose sleep over the fact that someone who projects to be good in 2028 isn't going to be on the 2026 Seton Hall team - especially when there is an 80% chance this player will be up for grabs at some point before 2028.
There are things to be concerned about Seton Hall basketball right now - this ain't one of em.

Sha is in charge of Men's Basketball. Felt handles everything else.
Much like Schiano runs the RU football program and whoever they just hired as AD oversees the rest.
Posters on here said we shouldn’t take Avent because he’s a freshman yet Tom Izzo wanted him lol. We were 2-18 last year, we should take any talent we can get.
Plan B is to get him on the rebound when he goes into the portal in a year or two----
Money is not an object. We have mid level Big East money now. In a year or two I expect we'll improve at best or stay the same at worst.

I agree and yet every team in the BE and other majors are probably growing their NIL funds so it is not a static situation for any of them. When you have to buy talent it is a tough environment and if you don't have a financial advantage over your competition you are in a dog fight.
Its disappointing to lose the son of a SHU BB legend.Understand NIL and everything else but its still disappointing.The kid can play and he lives down the street.Shouldn't happen.

right. last week we had posters saying our best bet is getting recruits now because the price tag of transfers is too high. now we lose a recruit in comically predictable fashion and it's better to wait until he's in the portal.
either way you need money for him to be on the team in 2 years if he's any good. but as a recruit at least he's on the team for 2 years.
