So nothing but stringing us along to keep his dad happy and to not deal with the blowback if he immediately dismissed usHearing we finished in 3rd
That is a great take. I haven't come around to that way of thinking yet (for better or for worse), but you're not wrong.Other than energizing the fanbase, winning high school recruiting battles for non-elite prospects provides minimal ROI. An argument could be made it's even counterproductive - allocating salary budget and dedicating roster spots to players that are not ready to compete now is foolish. It's especially foolish when you consider the transfer rate is close to 70%.
If you have a $10M NIL budget, sure you can afford to take risks like that but if you are playing in the $5M sandbox you can't do that.
Would it have been fun to land him? Sure, but this is not a bad situation. We have established a relationship and it's highly probable this player will be available again when he is close to his prime production years. That's the important recruiting battle - not this one.
We’ve seen this movie before. One side gives a positive report while the other side cancels the visit. Would like to sit in the sales meeting where a salesman has to explain how this happened.

Not in this case, as the budget will always be our issue and it kills whoever the coach is. And it seems like the details are far less damning of the staff than I assumed. You think Felt is calling Sha into his office and making Sha explain? lol
This is my point. Don't lose sleep over the fact that someone who projects to be good in 2028 isn't going to be on the 2026 Seton Hall team - especially when there is an 80% chance this player will be up for grabs at some point before 2028.It wasn’t even over that much money.
I like Avent but he likely wouldn’t have contributed much for 2 years. High school recruits are very risky.
Better to go all in on good transfers if you can get them.

Sha is in charge of Men's Basketball. Felt handles everything else.I don't think in any case Felt is going to call Sha in. Sha is in charge of athletics
Plan B is to get him on the rebound when he goes into the portal in a year or two----If Avent does not come we should have a plan "B" hopefully!
Money is not an object. We have mid level Big East money now. In a year or two I expect we'll improve at best or stay the same at worst.
Do we need and want more? Of course we do. Obviously we will never be an upper tier school in that regard. But our situation will never again be what it was 2 years ago.
...when we will be outbid by other programsPlan B is to get him on the rebound when he goes into the portal in a year or two----
right. last week we had posters saying our best bet is getting recruits now because the price tag of transfers is too high. now we lose a recruit in comically predictable fashion and it's better to wait until he's in the portal....when we will be outbid by other programs
