This is one of the problems without having multiyear control of players via contract. Even if some wanted to play, they might piss off their LSU head coach

As I've said many times on here before, Kiffin is a terrible person. I wish him nothing but the absolute worst in life. The infatuation with him just because he's somewhat clever boggles my mind. Just because an ******* is witty doesn't make him any less an *******.
Exactly, they can't fire him without paying the buyout. Lane has all the cards, this is the way leverage works.

The buyout will be more than mitigated by his LSU salary. UM wouldn’t have to pay a nickel (since there are no more Pennie’s)

How can he expect to coach for OM all the while recruiting and signing players at LSU? I don’t know the timing of all the signings and transfers windows but I don’t see how he can pull off both.

Not sure they can do that. He's still under contract and has done nothing to breach it at this point so they don't have grounds to terminate him for "cause". I don't see how they can keep him from coaching if he wants too.
Because its happened tons of previous times before, including both when Dan Mullen came to us from UF (stayed back to coach UF in title game) AND when Dan Mullen left to go back to UF (assistants stayed back at MSU for bowl game, then left to join him at UF).
He should be able to coach his team in the playoffs. Keith Carter needs to get over the butthurt. Their best chance of winning is with him on the sideline.
