happy holidays….will most likely be back for our next episode as we get into early BE play after New Years.
Listening now; great show as always.

One point about Nick Bahe and his apparent ignorance about the historical rankings of our recruits. He said during the game that Hines was the third-highest ranked Seton Hall get behind Isaiah Whitehead and Angel Delgado.

Yes, Eddie Griffin, Andre Barrett, and even Marcus Toney-El were all ranked higher than those guys, but I've seen this written before and the qualification is that they are considering only post-2000 recruits. Why? No idea, as the rankings system was already pretty well developed then. But whoever fed Bahe this information was drawing on this and should've emphasized this qualifier. Or, if they did, Bahe should've mentioned it.

Bahe should have qualified it with a time period.

Nick Bahe is currently 41 years old.

That means he would have been 16 years old when the Griffin / Barrett / MTE class came to Seton Hall. If the statistician didn’t include a specific footnote with that reference, then I give Nick a pass for not remembering how highly ranked that class was while he was a Sophomore in high school.

Which is why I jokingly said we are getting old relative to this talking point.

Counterpoint. Nick did play CBB for Creighton and Kansas. If you’re that good of a basketball player yourself, you think you might remember the big time recruits playing just a few years ahead of you.

I still give Nick a pass here and blame the person who handed him the reference.

Sure, and I do, too. The sports info person could have omitted that key fact, but if Bahe had it and neglected to mention it, that's a miss. Really, it only matters to us, especially those of us who were already full formed (or as much as I could hope to ever be) adults then.

By this logic, every commentator needs to be alive to reference any piece of information. Whether it's Bahe's fault or, as you guys call it, the intern's fault, he's the one that said it so he gets the blame. Someone needs to do a better job.

Here's a thought though. Does the SID (or dept) provide info to the commentator's so they can work it into the game telecast ? What if you're blaming the wrong source!? :ROFLMAO:

They do, but the network also has researchers. In any case, somewhere along the chain, a bit of key information was omitted.

I've heard this quote about Hines' ranking before, and I think they said the same thing about Brandon Weston previously. Usually they qualify it by saying something like, "...in the 247 era," which is kind of silly because they only show rankings for recruits from 2011. They show commits going back to 2003 (Grant Billmeier, Jamar Nutter, and Mani Messy), but all those guys have no stars. Same for people like Eugene Harvey, Jordan Theodore, Justin Cerasoli, Jeremy Hazell, etc.

Interestingly, it looks like they are still reflecting some sort of ranking system on the "all-time" list (maybe from the old Scout rankings or something). Again, this is only from 2003 onward, so no Griffin, Barrett, Toney-El, Dalembert, etc.

Did you know that Myles Powell was 40 pounds heavier as a high school senior?
Lol. That drove me nuts seeing that graphic of his HS senior photo placed side by side with his current SHU picture on every telecast.

At what point in time should the production crew be expected to come up with new material?

I mean they could have done something cool and shown other Pirate greats who have been All Americans or 1st team BE, since Myles was trending that way.

It’s just lazy all around if you ask me.

At least they got the Powell fact right. :)

Great episode, as usual; so good to have you guys back, even if part time. Lol

Amazing where we are compared not only to last year, but even pre season; there were no indicators that we would even be close to this good.

while you pointed out a definite Achilles…and that is, if we don’t get turnovers, and important points off turnovers, our offense still tends to stagnate.

i agree; but putting that aside, almost every other facet of our game has been good…some great…thus far.

Regardless, excitement is back in South Orange.
The 5 opening games in conference that you highlighted will definitely tell a story. Do we go 4-1 or 5-0? Or do we go 3-2…or worse?

pre UConn that will tell our trajectory. Right now I’m on the optimistic side, and most importantly looking forward to each “Next game “.

looking forward to your next episode when we’re 6-0 in conference and ranked top 15…

lol

I'll listen to it today to and from my volunteer job and I am looking forward to it.

I'm thrilled with season so far. Looking ahead, we need to improve our half court offense and cut back on TO's.

Great episode.

We are averaging 11 steals/game and almost 7 blocks. Alot of live ball opportunities for easy baskets. And there is enough high major competition in our first 11 games to believe that we should continue those averages into conference play. For example,
I watched St John's turn the ball over 20 times against Ole Miss and 17 times against Iona.

I also think unlike other years when we went stagnant and relied on attempted 3s to end the run, this team is built with a guy that can break down the defense to get that mid range jumper and also runs really good sets resulting in back door cuts for easy buckets. If we start building in some old fashioned dump the ball down on the block and let Hines work, he is going to score or get fouled and he is shooting FT well - 76.5%.

In other words, I think we have more answers in terms of playing style and number of players we can go to in a game when we need a bucket.

The modern equivalent is Sha won MVP over Kobe Bryant in the McDonalds Game.
lol. those of us old enough to remember that game remember kobe had a mediocre game and i didnt think sha played his best either. but since then, kobe became legend our guy Sha beat him out, and it makes the award much more impressive.

since nil, I guess we never again have the seasonlong excitement we got from following the recruitment of sha, tim thomas et al. gave some fun and excitement to that humdrum season.

I still remember when he made the announcement for Hall by putting on the hat... but the hat wasn't a clear Seton Hall logo and it was colored black so I still had no idea if we got him or not.

Last year, they mentioned it in every single broadcast. There was nothing else remotely positive so they kept going to that well.
