The nephew excuse. If I've seen it once - I've seen it a thousand times.
I'm currently trying to come up with an appropriate punishment and I have a few ideas: 1)I post a pic of him holding a sign apologizing for being dumb here on this thread or 2) He joins SPS and makes it known who he is so you guys can keep correcting him for being dumb.

I'm really puzzled by the logic.. They're about to bowl in their north endzone and it recently came to light they've deleted the suites on top to save money. Has that change been reversed?

Because if it hasn't.. and they still plan on a 1970's style bowl in the north endzone... Why on earth would you gut the south endzone, take away a valuable area from everyone in the bleachers there and add 30 suites? Why not simply put them on the north endzone next year? AECOM's estimating department has already been calling everybody and their brother getting cost estimates on that addition.
For what its worth I disagree with the entire premise of adding new field level club seats. The designs are flawed and I agree that it will cause all kinds of issues when cups full of liquid are tossed on these people. They need to save the money and do something else entirely.

I think it's great for both schools. It will keep the fire on us to keep improving past what we're doing this season moving forward.

Just stop it, and admit you were dead wrong. These excuses are not helping you any.

You can punish him by sending to his room until he can explain how adding a field level club zone will add an additional 10,000 seats.

My guess...

I'm really puzzled by the logic.. They're about to bowl in their north endzone and it recently came to light they've deleted the suites on top to save money. Has that change been reversed?

Because if it hasn't.. and they still plan on a 1970's style bowl in the north endzone... AECOM's estimating department has already been calling everybody and their brother getting cost estimates on that addition.

OM's athletic academic building is VERY close to the North Endzone, and anything more than a minimal lower level expansion will force them to tear down that building.

The field level club level seats aren't NEW seats, they're replacing current student seating (bleachers). If they JUST build the field level club level then they will lose capacity by trading packed student bleachers with chairbacks and whatever border they will build around them.

If they build new suites on top of the current suites in the South Endzone and/or fill in the lower level in the North Endzone, that will increase capacity. Keep in mind, though that their current metal bleachers in the North Endzone extend almost to each side, so filling in with concrete bleachers all the way across won't increase capacity much at all. Their stadium looks like ****. It looks like they took a trailer and built a huge, fancy deck on the front of it. I know that we have some things that don't match aesthetically, but at least there's some flow to it. What they have is just turrible.

Hey, I actually partied with Deshea once

it was in Tunica, we were standing next to each other watching a boxing match, and ended up partying that night. Fun guy.

I would be willing to bet a north endzone expansion will involve mostly premium seating.

add 10,000?

So, you're gonna take out the roughly 4,200 that are presently there, and add 14,200? For a net of 10,000 additional seats? I See...

What do you consider much at all? I think it would be at least a 4k increase over the bleachers.

The redesigned north endzone that came out under a year ago did not have premium seating. Visually, it's absolutely horrible.

question for the bear lurkers......what is the capacity of the current NORTH endzone that has the temporary bleachers? i ask because it is a pretty large section and if you bowl it off like this:

you wont be adding many seats at all because the current bleachers are pretty large as far as temporary seating goes.

in the pic above, you would just be adding seating enough to close up the open areas, which isnt that large of a space. as you already know, because of the of location of those newly built academic support buildings, you would not be able to advance the stadium taller without the removal of a building or two. for the endzones to be symmetrical, you would be required to demolish newly built buildings.

anywho, im curious what the current capacity is on the north endzone because it looks far more substantial than the one we had.

No premium seating in North Endzone..Nada..

I assume all they will do is bowl it in...

per the article
[h=3]Construction Timeline[/h] It is expected that the south endzone renovation will only take one off season to complete. We plan to put the project up for bid in late fall 2014, with construction to begin in early 2015. It is anticipated that the new club, concourse and suites will be finished and completed in time for the 2015 season.
It is the goal of the athletic department to then begin construction on the north endzone after 2015 season with completion before the 2016 season. No premium seating options will be offered in the north endzone at this time. Concept drawings and more information on the north endzone will be released at a later date.

I don't understand why you wouldn't add premium seating, especially from a business perspective? That's where your revenue is... So basically they are saying:
1. We have ZERO interst in premium seating from our fans... Or...
2. They want to expand as cheap as possible for the sole reason of not allowing us to have a bigger stadium.

It makes absolutely zero sense not to add premium seating. None.

I think that's why they are expanding premium seating in the south endzone. They don't have room in the North unless they tear down those buildings that were built in 2005.

From an outsiders perspective, it seems the important issue SHOULD be increased revenue (premium seats) and NOT capacity. That stadium is currently big enough... Adding only capacity doesn't make much sense... I guess they will convert the north EZ to students and renovate the south?

They are going to be giving away tickets to the Boy Scouts and Public Schools just to fill up that stadium.

The field level club will make more sense if they re-seat the students to the north end-zone in 2016.

But, I can't believe they are adding bricks...

Last season we filled the stadium to an average of 98 % for each home game. We averaged 59,000 per game.http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/2013/sec-football-attendance-2013/

You sold 98% of your tickets last year, you didn't fill 98% of your stadium. My guess is that you know this since you likely went to games a saw empty sections. You have no need to expand the capacity of your stadium, because you don't fill your current stadium with actual bodies. Premium seating makes much more sense, unless your only objective is to have more seats than MSU.

Its somewhere around 4-5 thousand with the bleachers they have right now. As for the capacity of VHS when its all said and done, I imagine it will be somewhere around 66,000 once the endzone is bowled in. In 2002 they added 10,003 seats with the expansion but that has all of the club and upper level seats factored in. I'm not sure they will do the same for the other side.

It looks like the new north endzone does not have any more rows than the current metal bleachers, and therefore would *only* fill in the corners to the two main stands. Fewer than 2,000 new seats.

Those VHS north endzone seats were narrowed and renumbered many years ago and are really really narrow (you could still see the old numbers when I sat there in the 2000's). Those are mostly visitor seats, so they don't care if we're comfortable. If the students are put there, they might leave them narrow, but otherwise they might lose capacity by returning them to normal width in an expansion.

If you notice, each row in State's new expansion has more leg room than either of our current sideline grandstands.

So Ole Miss is going to expand on their stadium yet they still haven't fixed the worst part about VHS. The terrible astroturf.

From looking at the pics of the design, no way you can go to 66K.
You are at 60,580 now and we are going to 61,337. I predict your new capacity will be just over 62,000.

That would be a dick move on our part if that's true. If we do that I hope it isn't just to one up MSU.

I have to say that when you look at the aesthetics there have been some interesting decisions made. The old press box is that standard flat-roof. The club level is a curvy, ultra-modern looking roof, and then the end zone suites have an angled roof like both our baseball stadiums. It looks like a stadium that has been built over a number of years by different people with completely different ideas. And whoever decided to build those buildings right up against the North end zone needs to be shot. They completely screwed any possibility of doing a decent renovation there. Ole Miss will jump up to 62-64k and they will be done. MSU still has options in the Seal Club end zone. The only thing I can even think Ole Miss could do is renovate the press box and build up around the sides of it (not a lot of bang for the buck there though).

Odd stadium those Rebs have....

From what I understand, They had a very hard time keeping the south endzone healthy with the 2002 expansion. The large overhang prevented enough sunlight from reaching that part of the field.

Is it really possible in 2005 they built somethign that would limit football expansion? I know growth has been explosive lately, but it's hard to believe anybody was that short sighted.

And I think either school adding capacity at this point is borderline stupid, unless it's being done to get more premium seating. With our population, and how good the tv experience is getting, I don't think offering somebody an aluminum bleacher in the endzone is going to cut it for either school.
