He has started every single Big East game.

In 13 conference games:

5.7ppg
2.5rpg (only 3 total offensive rebounds)
18 total assists
14 turnovers
9 steals
1 block

31% overall field goals
24% 3 pointers
64% free throws

Shaheen is stubbornly starting this every single game. He provides next to nothing and unlike last year there are some options. Laughable.

He’s struggling, no doubt. He was in at crunch time with the game melting around us for…? Defense? FT shooting? I guess. He had a brutal and defensively.

I think he is one those arrogant undeserving players whose "agents" are in their ear to play for themselves. Him and Mccray starting to be the suspects of this. I don't respect them after what I saw of them to end the game and even last couple of weeks. Simpkins runs this AAU ball hog out the water. Willaims should not even be getting minutes, just give more minutes to Parker or one of Rivera or Dar so the team gets rhythm.

Williams left his game in Maui and haven't seen it since.
Time to start Simpkins. Let Mike watch from the bench and try to improve by doing so. Only other reason Sha could be using him as a starter is to protect Simpkins from foul trouble to finish games.

Sha is showing that if you play hard and practice hard, regardless of how tough he might be on you…and he is tough on them…he is unrelentingly loyal to you.
Not saying that’s good or bad, but it’s looking to be his MO

He also loves “ untalented” power forwards. (Ndefo, Aligbe, Rivera.). It’s the one spot he reserves for an energy and grit guy.

That can work if you have talented players at the other positions.. but when those are also limited this mindset does not work.

Dude really needs to stop coaching likes it’s the MAAC

when he missed the chance for the turnover at the end of the game, i predicted we would end up losing.
He has a habit of going up for rebounds and high loose balls with one hand instead of two. I get sometimes you can only reach with one but I've seen him lose lots of one handed rebounds. We were getting all the loose balls and 50/50 balls the whole second half until 4 minutes to play then we crapped the bed badly.

When he first transferred here, we thought he would be one of the worst guards in the roster and fighting for mins w/ Felton.

He’s better than that though. I don’t agree he should be starting, but to say he provides nothing is a lil over the top.

In the last 6 games he had 3 games where he scored zero, zero, and 1 point.

Sha def has a type and be recruits to it, manages his rosters to it. He wants physical defenders. That’s it. He won’t compromise that for skilled offensive players. You see this time and time again with the minutes too.

I see two things with Williams. First, his shot selection has been terrible. He’s taking more mid-range shots (which he scores at .59 points per shot) in conference play, and fewer 3s (which he scores at .99 points per shot), than he did in the non-con. Williams’ shooting in general has regressed, but he could mitigate that problem by being more intelligent about the shots he takes.

Second, his defense has taken a big step back. Mike was really tough on backcourt guys in the non-con, and he just isn’t anymore. I’m not sure why Shaheen keeps rewarding him with a starting spot given the drop off in defense.

Doesn't matter who starts. It's who finishes and plays most of the game.
It can be tough though if the starters don't produce. Some teams have starters producing in the 50's as a five man unit. The Hall does struggle in that department. Couple that with opposing teams hitting between 8-12 threes and thats a lot to overcome. Not impossible, but little margin for error.

He had 16 points against UConn. Fair to say we saw a good basketball player in that game.

Mike seems a victim of the sha dog house + outside noise unfortunately. Needed him to be better overall
