What do you think of coach Rick Ray’s progress so far with the basketball team?
I get more and more impressed with him every day. His intelligence, his organization, the discipline. You know, what’s hard to tell when you go through the process is how tough somebody is. He’s shown that he has a pretty good backbone. The other thing I’ve really been impressed with is how decisive he is. He doesn’t take a long time to make a decision and I’ve seen that off the court in some of the decisions he’s made in the maintenance of the program. You kind of see some of it during the game, too, which obviously is a great benefit because you’ve got to make quick decisions in a game and stand by them. But just the way he holds the players’ attention, he holds them accountable. His work ethic has been tremendous. If they’re not practicing, he’s not in town and he’s on the road recruiting somewhere if it’s the time of year he can be out.
I"t’s funny. I talked to him Saturday night (Jan. 12) and he said, “I’m sorry.” I said, “What time did you get back?” He goes, “We got back whenever and I had to go directly to meet with a football recruit.” They had a football recruit in town who wants to play both sports. So, he lands from Athens and immediately goes to meet with a recruit who is on campus. I’ve really been impressed with the job he’s doing." What r ecruit are they talking about here?
