What do you think of coach Rick Ray’s progress so far with the basketball team?
I get more and more impressed with him every day. His intelligence, his organization, the discipline. You know, what’s hard to tell when you go through the process is how tough somebody is. He’s shown that he has a pretty good backbone. The other thing I’ve really been impressed with is how decisive he is. He doesn’t take a long time to make a decision and I’ve seen that off the court in some of the decisions he’s made in the maintenance of the program. You kind of see some of it during the game, too, which obviously is a great benefit because you’ve got to make quick decisions in a game and stand by them. But just the way he holds the players’ attention, he holds them accountable. His work ethic has been tremendous. If they’re not practicing, he’s not in town and he’s on the road recruiting somewhere if it’s the time of year he can be out.
I"t’s funny. I talked to him Saturday night (Jan. 12) and he said, “I’m sorry.” I said, “What time did you get back?” He goes, “We got back whenever and I had to go directly to meet with a football recruit.” They had a football recruit in town who wants to play both sports. So, he lands from Athens and immediately goes to meet with a recruit who is on campus. I’ve really been impressed with the job he’s doing." What r ecruit are they talking about here?

very telling.....almost like all the positive comments about Ray are the opposite traits of Stansbury.

It could be a guy who wants to play basketball and walk-on with football... In that case not even a recruit Dan has in mind. That's what I took it as. No way Dan recruits any significant recruit (assuming he is because he would get one of the last signing spots) and allows him to get injured playing basketball.

It's going to be De'Runnya Wilson. He has previously mentioned wanting to play both sports in college.

He's pretty highly regarded in basketball too.

Just like that insignificant Bruce Ellington guy at South Carolina**

It was De'Runnya Wilson and I believe he's only been playing football one year. He's 6' 6'' and can certainly play both sports. He could be instant impact on the basketball team and he will almost 100% redshirt in football next year anyway. If he wants to do I say go ahead.

And I think you have it backwards. Rick Ray's badass enough to tell Dan he won't let him risk an injury playing football....**

pretty sure if a guy goes to school on an athletic scholarship and "walks on" for football, his scholarship counts against the 85 for football. otherwise you'd have schools like bama fielding all walk on starting lineups in every non-football sport, while you had a bunch of football walk ons sitting the bench watching and collecting a scholarship in basketball/baseball/soccer/swimming/gymnastics/whatever.
