What a golden opportunity given away.

Fisher goes 0/2 FT, Rivera 0/2 FT, Clark allows a pick-6, Simpkins multiple drives out of control, we go 12+ minutes without a FG?

Offense scores 22 points in a half again. Blow a 15-point lead with 15 to play?

Brutal. Welcome back, swoon!!

People will say I’m negative or harping on Clark but he’s been very very bad for us in conference play. He was the worst player on the court tonight by a wideee margin. St John’s back up pg outplayed him.
This is spot on and it’s not just a statistical analysis either.

He didn’t settle the offense down, didn’t help anyone get any easy look (only 2 assists), and obviously didn’t score (only 3 points 0-7).

More importantly Dylan Darling their back up point guard completely took it to him all game. While Darling was aggressive as can be, Budd was timid the majority of the time he attacked the paint.

In no way did I think Simpkins was being selfish tonight lol. He was actually a bright spot especially in the first half. When the offense is so stagnant someone has to shoot it.

Holloway never has been able to coach offense. It's been said before and it's just a fact. Name me another single team in all of high major D1 basketball that EVERY SINGLE GAME goes on these consistent 10 minute streaks with 0 or maybe 1 field goal, all the while missing FTs at an alarming rate. That is a consistent part of our identity and it can't be dismissed.

Jeez the FT shooting has fallen off too.
Remember when I said players nowadays blame horrendous games on fake injuries…. And you all laughed and called me derogatory names? Yeah, here you go.

Clark was healthy enough to speed the ball up and down the court for 32 minutes no problem. But after the game when the box score is available; he was “hurt”

Budd looked pretty clearly hurt to me. A step slow on offense and unable to guard the ball like normal on D. I don’t see this one as an excuse at all.
A guy that plays 32 minutes is not hurt. And he looked just as fast with the ball to me as any other game. He was overwhelmed by the Johnnie’s size and aggressiveness.

it’s clear roughly halfway thru the big east season that he can’t handle the size and pressure at this level. He’s also unable to shoot 3s. Not good

It sure did but some think Simpkins played well.
He did play well in the first half. We saw the road "Good" Simpkins. We only get the defense at Prudential. Second half he struggled, did not finish his plays and missed key three point attempts. Looked a bit tired. So, I somewhat agree with. He did enough to help create the lead.

Clarke has a great fade away shot. Hard to block, for the most part, never even tried to get it off.
In the past, in close games, he would take over...missing in action tonight.

I’d agree with that but he was absolutely brutal in the second half. And a game consists of two halves.

Game plan was good - up 15 with a PG hobbled. Team misses so many bunnies inside and Rivera fouls too much and bricks free throws. The team missed 9 FTs, but so many miisss inside and on loose balls by all.

I'd play Dar more when matchups permit - kid is an excellent FT shooter and our best 3 point shooter coming into the season. Hope he bulks up offseason, I'm sure his defense is light years away, which is why he plays spotty minutes.

I would keep the ball late in the game with Staton or Mike or Simpkins - all way better foul shooters than Budd. Keep it out of Rivera's hands too, if possible.

Looking more like an NIT team, good defense and sub-par offense.

You’ve got 4-5 year players out there like Fisher, Rivera, and Staton-McCray missing layups, foul shots, open looks, having butter fingers in recounts. I mean cmon. You expect those guys to execute. It’s pathetic.

Rivera and Fisher were 2-7 from the floor and 6 were layups, 2/6 from the FT line and committed 7 fouls in 32 minutes. 🤣

Poor FT shooting has been a SH trademark for several seasons now.
It’s gotten worse as the season has gone on. It’s been terrible during this 3 game skid:

15/25
17/25
11/20

The foul trouble with Mike Williams was an issue too.

Yeah I mean Clark was 0/7 from the floor and completely outplayed so have at it.
Maybe we were expecting too much from Budd. He needs 4 guys on the court with him that can get a pass from him and score. Not happening enough. He is not a scoring guard. He should be a much better free throw shooter and that hurts.

His FT% is perplexing. Down 100 % points.

Then you have the high turnover rate and high fouling rate that are big negatives.

We may need to try a payne/hines frontcourt. I know the arguments against it. Can the 4 guard the perimeter? Last night they pounded it inside. Payne held zuby to 9 pts and bryce was only going to the tin. Fish is doing his best guarding the 4s. The guys chest is prob bruised and battered at this point. Mitchell was finishing over our small lineup. Why not just try the combo and see what happens. It cant get worse.

The fouling is causing guys to be taken off the court. Its screwing up the rotation and causing reserves to play too many minutes. The efficiency absolutely crashed st MSG.

Coach made the excuse not the player, kid wants to play and win. More respect for guys who try to play through injuries. He might have been able to go forward no problem but side to side not good. Guys are going to have off nights but my concern is free throws. No Clark no 14 wins. Kid is a gamer who has had some bad games, needs to get back on track.
