Interested to see exactly what will be said or done going forward. This game, well this team is not very fun to watch. I wish I could simplify the inadequacies but there’s no possible way.

This team is done. Jans doesn’t know what he’s doing with this team. King Grace and Delquan Warren have barely played this year and are getting major minutes tonight. Grace actually has more points than Hubbard and has taken five shots to Hubbard’s 14.

Before you let him go 3 for 25 from the field as coach you have to be able to identify if a player is having an off night. Jan’s doesn’t do that. He’s more of a shooters gonna shoot coach. Says he doesn’t tell them not to shoot it.

I just can’t get over how much of a miss Ballard is.
This^^^ Jans missed big in the portal, but this was his biggest miss. We don't have an SEC big and you can't win without an SEC big. But that's not even close to ALL the issues.

Our perimeter shotting is pathetic, even though that was supposed to improve this season.
We have guys (I'm looking at you McGhee) airing it out on social media.
We seem to have completely forgotten how to play D, which was our strong point in years past.
They seem to lack leadership, although I'm not in the locker room to confirm.

This team just isn't good, and I have no reason to believe they will get better.

So it's okay to say that we missed on the Jans hire? Yeah he has a couple of one and dones in the tourney but what else is there to be excited for? Getting run out of arenas every conference game? Please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Ive been a big fan of Jans but the roster building has been a disaster. Where would we be if we hadn't lucked into Hubbard? We have gotten less talented every season he has been here.

He has missed on multiple players in the portal each of the last 3 years

Ballard, Ali, Achor this season
Clary, Nwoko, & Kugel last season
The guard from Marshall & Trey Fort 2 years ago
I think it's more than "missing" name me a player that has gotten better year over year that Jans has coached. I honestly can't think of one. Jans cannot develop players. He has completely wasted Hubbards career

No it’s not OK to say that.
Jans took over a program with one tournament appearance in 13 years, and he made it his first 3 seasons. It’s completely asinine to call that a miss.
We’ve made 3 straight tournaments exactly one other time in our history.
If you want to argue that Jans has reached his ceiling, maybe you have a case. But that doesn’t make his whole tenure a bust.

Howland’s players went to 3 straight ncaa tournaments.
That’s at least partially true. 2 guys on last year’s team were here under Howland (based on a quick look back at last year’s roster. It’s possible I missed someone). But by year 3, the new guy has to at least get credit for developing and retaining them.

We sure miss Cam Matthews, I know that much. I miss his mom sitting under the basket and yelling- not sure I would have expected I’d ever say that.

There will have to deep analysis of the roster and nil to determine the future of the basketball roster.

Is it worth Hubbards salary to keep him? Or do you ante up to keep all rhe young players? You need to keep all of them really.

you have a nucleus of young players coming back.

Davis-Fleming
Macura
Warren
Grace

You're losing all your guards except Hubbard. I'm afraid youll have to find a way to bring Hubbard back to help those 4. However I'm sure that will limit your funds for the remainder of the roster. So you may have to scrape up bodies or hope the freshmen that haven't played this year can contribute next year Like Bartlett, Paul and Ali.

Josh Schertz with St. Louis is a name I would keep in the book for next coaches. He has turned every program he has been at around and very quickly.

At some point you’re not “missing on portal
Players” and you just really suck at recruiting. Good thing for him Hubbard fell
Into his lap.

signed that 4 year extension with a quickness after last year, that whole team is paid to do nothing worthwhile, including the coaches... the only game they are interested in playing is getting paid more for as long as possible

Good lord no.

Three straight years in the tournament at Mississippi State is a pretty big achievement when you look at how it’s been since the Stansbury run. Wandering in the wilderness.

I’ve said this before- The transfer portal era has made it significantly harder for Jans to sustain the elite defensive standards of his earlier years that made him different. The portal hasn’t just added players, it’s subtracted continuity, buy in, and development needed for his defensive standards that made him a known and successful with average players. In the old days he could keep a core together for 3–4 years and win with his defensive identity. Now with that defensive edge gone because of the portal NIL era, all he’s left with is an average defense and a very common and generic offense, and average players to go with it. This era of portal/NIL do not favor Jan’s developmental style that made him a good coach at one time- His identity on defense has passed on by. He is now better suited for the SWAC. He’d probably enjoy coaching in that league anyway, he wouldn’t have to have that one white guy on the team, who he hates the most.

Or! You sign the players Mississippi State can attract.

I don't care who the coach is, there are many limitations to overcome.

to the other poster, Achor and Kugel weren't "misses". They are/did contribute.

Going into this I really thought Jans would thrive in the NIL and portal era because he has an extensive and successful career in the JUCO system where you’re getting alot of player turnover.

No it doesn’t make his tenure a bust. But he’s not worthy of that salary he’s making either.

Some of our fans love beating this drum of our history as a reason for keeping him. But the simple fact is that EVERY SEC team without Bulldogs in their name has made the Sweet 16 or beyond since 2000.

The fact is we have gotten passed by virtually the entire league since we put so much emphasis on those meaningless West banners from the Bury era.

Hell, Georgia is ranked this year so it may even be safe to say we have been passed by every team in the league at this point. But let’s keep giving Jans and everybody else a pass because of history.
