I know the OP will catch heck for this thread, but I actually think Mike Riley could be a heck of an AD, if he wanted to. He is good at seeing the big picture, he is a good communicator, willing to remove underperforming coaches, would be a good ambassador, etc.

he has also proven he has no qualms about hiring under-performing coaches ... Winking

It'll be interesting to see what happens though. Had heard Ed Stewart, but other than him I hope it isn't anyone Nebraska affiliated. Already made a mistake giving #Rimington 50K to be an idiot.

Let me ask this, do we even want a real AD? The AD has a choice of hiring Scott Frost or being run out of town.

Might was well just hire Doc Sadler as AD. Or we could hire someone with successful administrative experience and not a failed coach.

Don't twist what I said. I never said we should hire him or that it is even realistic, I simply sad he would probably do well in that kind of role. Alot of former coaches with no administrative experience have.

50K a month, when so many on here do it for free.

I think it's time to take a break from this board for at least a couple weeks, lol. Between posts like this and the inevitable meltdown after the next game it may be a good time to step away for a bit.

I'm gonna fire you and promote you at the same time......said no-one ever.
Actually it happened to Riley's buddy, Bellotti. He was having success at Oregon but everyone wanted Chip Kelly. So, Belotti "gets fired" and promoted to AD.

P.S. No way do I want Mike anywhere near that job. He doesn't have the best track record in hiring folks.

Exactly. "Results" are important for our AD too.

Riley doesn't have a great track record with hiring coaches, which is kind of the most important role.

Sort of agree with you. We don't need some big shot AD with a huge ego if we can already have the football coach we want. Might as well hire a basketball guy for AD and there'd be no point on spending a ton of money on the AD position.

Mike is an exceptional manager, but Mike is not a leader and does not posses the leadership abilities to steer a program like Nebraska.

Hmm, he seems like a nice guy...

Of course, I can get a hell of a good look at a T-Bone steak by sticking my head up a bull's ***, but I'd rather take the butcher's word for it.

My first reaction was 'wow, that's a great idea'. But the more I think about it, Mike's retirement is too close and it feels like we're giving him a participation ribbon. Thanks for playing.

Unless his name is Tom Osborne.

I'm glad someone else was thinking it, because it crossed my mind. I bet the TC would LOVE Tom back. His less coaching hires where less than great to this point (although to be fair, the book is not shut yet on 2 of the 3).

Well, the coaches TO hired ( if you count Solich) have gone 125-46 at Nebraska
The coaches he did not have gone 45-36 at Nebraska

TO hires: 73% winning percentage
Non TO hires: 55% winning percentage

Pelini : 71% winning percentage

So, either he has done well in a difficult place to coach or the other two coaches have been absolutely putrid at an easy place to win 9 games.

And neither one of them are still there either.
