Regardless of classification who would you say had the most losses in State Championship appearances. I probably go with Douglas Byrd in 4A. At the best of my ability this is what I come up with. Anyone want to add that be good.

1983 Page 21 Douglas Byrd 14
1995 West Charlotte 20 Douglas Byrd 13
1996 Crest 20 Douglas Byrd 7
1997 Richmond 27. Douglas Byrd 7
1999 AC Reynolds 7 Douglas Byrd 0
2008 Seventy-First 28. Douglas Byrd 7

Reminds me of the Buffalo Bills losing in Super Bowl from ‘91-94.

Depends on the way you look at Dynasty.
Reidsville and Shelby are dynasty.

Some schools have been around 100 yrs, some 50, some less. To compare who has had the most success you should look at averages.

Robbinsville Black Knights averages a title every 5 years from its beginning. No one has a better average title win.
Robbinsville is also the only team to win 15 titles under NCHSAA and under one name, and zero ties in title games.
Not to mention around 90% win percentage in title games.

We have gone at this with you before, but we have new readers here, so we choose to dance again.

But first, we owe Reidsville football an apology.
It appears, upon a recount, they also have appeared in 29 Championship Title Games in their history, 22 wins and 7 losses.
Unlike some of the Reidsville faithful that we will not mention here (Mule), we strive to be fully accurate and transparent in our comparisons. We make no attempt to diminish any other program's Championship accomplishments, regardless of association, classification, subclasses, etc. They all "count".
We have asked the current NCHSAA to accurately correct their records to reflect everyone's accomplishments in history, but they choose to hide behind a bully pulpit and continue to carry a grudge most of them misunderstand. Que knows.

We will point out historical facts, such as Reidsville"s recent 31 consecutive year gap from even appearing in a Championship Title game.
The " Dynasties " in sports teams and pop culture, typically do not follow the true definition of the word.
Some still consider Independence as the greatest "dynasty" in NC high school football.
It only lasted 7 years and one coach and Indy won nothing before and nothing since.
That is not a "dynasty". That is just an incredible run within one decade.

The Webster dictionary definition of a dynasty is;
Dynasty
A family or group that maintains power for several generations.
That is the definition. That is not "depends on the way you look at Dynasty"'.
You can make stuff up to fit YOUR definition, like Indy. But it is not accurate to the word.
It is not a "true" dynasty.

Reidsville's dominance for four decades, from 1930 to 1970, certainly qualifies as dynastical. Call it that for that period.
But it abruptly stopped for the next three decades from 1971 to 2001, not even making a Championship Title game..
What they have accomplished in the last 20 years puts them back in the hunt.
But you can't ignore a recent 31 consecutive year absence.
The word "maintains" is in that definition for a reason. And we didn't put it there.
Reidsville is on a good 20 year roll, now.
Not unlike Robbinsville was from 1966 to 1983. 12 Titles in 18 years. But that is not a dynasty either. You went 22 years between 1992 and 2014 Title games or appearances..
Maintain. Sustain.
With Robbinsville's Titles primarily in a 20 year block, your "averages a Title every five years" falls apart, also.
Back to Indy. With 7 Titles in 7 years (100% win percentage in Title Games) , Indy could claim they average a Title every five years.....over a 35 year period. It doesn't work that way, BK13T-$.

Since 1968, integration of our public schools, and the "modern Super Bowl era' of football emerging, Shelby has appeared in 25 Championship Title games in those 55 years.
That is 45% of them. Think about that.
And they won 18 of them. That is 33% . Or 1 out of each 3.....for an average....for the last 55 years.

Robbinsville's 15 Championship Titles is outstanding. 12 Titles in 18 years will probably never be matched. Congratulations.
Claiming some value to winning them all under one banner, the before and after merger NCHSAA, is nonsense.
Your first 6 Titles were won while avoiding the possibility of competing against 44 of some of the best public programs smack in the middle of the state.
Some of them went on to dominate in 1A after the merger. Heard of Albemarle or Thomasville ?
There is no guarantee that none of the members of the old WNCHSAA would have evolved into 1A programs had the split never occurred.
No attempt to diminish your Titles here. They all "count". Just clarifying that there were no "true and unified State Titles" until after ALL public schools merged under one governing body in !977. And that substantially changed the makeup of the previous NCHSAA. Look how many former WNCHSAA programs have dominated since 1977.

A Championship Title in each of the last SEVEN DECADES, including this one.
Back to Back (or more) Championship Title game appearances in each of the last SIX DECADES prior to 2020.
Most playoff appearances. Most playoff games. Most playoff wins. Highest playoff winning percentage.
All-Time wins leader in North Carolina.

That is what meets the definition of a "Dynasty".

No one knows if that would have been the case.

If the split never occurred, 44 teams would have impacted realignment and who was in what class would have been affected.
You may of had small 2A size schools of both associations drop into 1A. That would have affected playoff opponents and conferences.
No one will ever know.
But the NCHSAA did not reign supreme.
History has proven that.
No value to claiming your Titles were “better” somehow because you won under the pre merger NCHSAA.
Not everyone was in it.

Certainly value in claiming ALL 15 Championship Titles. Everybody’s Titles count the same.
They won all they could.

Regardless of you think that leaged titles are equal. In everything averages must be used to see the truth. For example one group may have more ppl on food stamps but also has more population. But another group may have less on food stamps but a small population. Looking at the average will tell you who would have more ppl on food stamps if population was equal. Same with titles. Look at averages. That's tells the story. If Robbinsville black knights had been around as long they would've had the most titles.

Just wait until 7a starts and we can rehash this .

Just like with classifications.
Andrews has to play a team with 600 more kids in the playoffs. That doesn't sound bad to you big school fans.
But look at percentages.

That's 4x larger. No other class has to over come that.
PS albermarle and Thomasville? You should look up the size of those two during that time. 1a was small then. It wasn't 25/25/25/25.
1a had less than 50 teams. I'm almost positive that none of wnchsaa would've been close to 1a even when combined with NCHSAA.

Your 6:56 am post today looks like you were still asleep.

In the same period of years that Robbinsville has had 15 Titles and 2 Runner-ups, Shelby has had 18 Titles and 7 Runner-ups.
So, no, you wouldn’t have the most Titles.

And when did Robbinsville school start to have high school? Or football?
Your Wikipedia says early 1900s, then a change in 1924, and then another in 1966.
And how did you avoid being classified with neighbors Murphy and Swain County in you glory days?
We doubt you would have been as dominant.

From 1966 to 1979 they were kicking *** up in 2A.
After that they stared kicking your *** in 1A.
And you faded.
Timing is everything.

So then you bring up going to 7 classifications soon.
That is nothing but a money grab for the NCHSAA and a resume builder for the coaches.
It waters down the playoffs, just as the 2 subclass nonsense did.
Will those titles be as “ good” since competition is reduced?
Of course they will. We are entirely consistent on that. The kids and coaches play what is given to them. They do not control it.
And who is to say that a given classification is not loaded with great teams in a given season.
We have witnessed that as Reidsville has breezed to recent subclass 2A Titles, avoiding Shelby as we faced the powerhouse teams in 2AA.
They all “count”. Timing is a factor, nonetheless.

In your second post this morning, you still miss the point of how the era of the WNCHSAA’s existence impacted classifications and competition for the rest of North Carolina public high schools. And it lasted from 1929 until 1976. That is a long time for up to 44 programs to function outside the pre merger NCHSAA.
The WNCHSAA began as similarly sized schools competing in the Piedmont of NC, but across 47 years, there were certainly smaller schools competing against much larger ones. Hickory was well into 4A size and defeating everyone, before it left to join the NCHSAA.
Could there have been some schools approaching 1A size in the WNCHSAA?
Chase and Bessemer City maybe?
There were no classes in the WNCHSAA. Everybody played everybody.
Schools chose to be in the WNCHSAA for what the association offered, such as sports for girls before the NCHSAA ever did.
But that is still not the point to you.
The point to you is that regardless of if any of the WNCHSAA members would have competed at 1A had the WNCHSAA never existed, the introduction of 44 ADDITIONAL high school football programs into the NCHSAA would have altered alignment, conferences, and most importantly, who played who in the playoffs.
The dropping of even one high school from 2A to 1A due to additional high schools involved would change history.
Do you understand that?
The dropping of Murphy and Swain County to 1A in the mid 1980’s, as the 1977 merger of the two associations took full effect should prove our point if nothing else does….to a Robbinsville fan.

Good luck in the future in the 7 classes realignment.
It will lower the competition again most years, just as the subdivided classes did.
You have shown improvement in your reappearance over the last 10 years.
Keep it up.

Nothing wrong with being the second best program in NC for the last 70 years.
Your Murphy and Swain County neighbors may challenge you on that.

Do you look in the mirror while you pat yourself on the back?

You would be worse than us if you had Shelby’s success.
Green with envy is Crest’s color, not yours.

We would much rather let our record speak for itself. And for decades we did.

But the media crazed world we live in means you speak up…or you get run over and forgotten.
Langston Wertz is now informed, as is Scott Fowler and Richard Walker. Recent articles by them show a thorough knowledge of the Golden Lions’ true and factual history to support our claim. Deana gets it now, as does Que.
Shelby has set the “Golden Standard”.

That didn’t happen by accident.

Yes…we pat ourselves on the back.

FYI there can be more then 1 Dynasties in NC

We never said there was not.
We actually acknowledged in this thread that Reidsville football was a Dynasty from 1930 to 1970. You must have missed that.

Another key part of the definition of a Dynasty besides “maintains” is “over several generations”.
A generation is defined as the average period, generally considered to be 20-30 years, during which children are born and grow up, become adults, and begin to have children.
Reidsville’s football dominance was maintained for 40 years, from 1930 to 1970. Two generations. Not even “several”…. but we’ll allow it.
And that is well in the past.

Shelby, while winning big in the 1920s and 1940s, has been dominant, at a minimum, from 1963 to now, 2023. 60 years. 3 generations.
That is several.
And it is current.

Tell us, BlueDevil1996. Who else in NC public high school football qualifies as a Dynasty by definition?

WNC hall of fame declared Robbinsville a dynasty about 7 yrs ago.
You should send them ur definition so they can fix this.

You or you local Hall of Fame can declare yourselves whatever you want.
Reidsville went out and declared themselves the capitol (sic) of NC high school football.
Those are personal opinions. Subjective.
Not factual, by definition or historical record.
We did not define dynasty.

1997 Richmond 27. Douglas Byrd 7

Reidsville has more all time NCHSAA Titles since 1930 at 22.
But not even a Championship Title game appearance between 1971 and 2001.
13 before the merger with the WNCHSAA in 1977.
9 since 2002.

Shelby has 6 WNCHSAA Titles before merger.
12 since.
18 Total. Evenly spread out.

Robbinsville has 15 Titles total.
6 before the merger in 1977.
9 since. 12 were won in 18 years.

Robbinsville is in 3rd place, looking at just total Titles all time.
