We have gone at this with you before, but we have new readers here, so we choose to dance again.
But first, we owe Reidsville football an apology.
It appears, upon a recount, they also have appeared in 29 Championship Title Games in their history, 22 wins and 7 losses.
Unlike some of the Reidsville faithful that we will not mention here (Mule), we strive to be fully accurate and transparent in our comparisons. We make no attempt to diminish any other program's Championship accomplishments, regardless of association, classification, subclasses, etc. They all "count".
We have asked the current NCHSAA to accurately correct their records to reflect everyone's accomplishments in history, but they choose to hide behind a bully pulpit and continue to carry a grudge most of them misunderstand. Que knows.
We will point out historical facts, such as Reidsville"s recent 31 consecutive year gap from even appearing in a Championship Title game.
The " Dynasties " in sports teams and pop culture, typically do not follow the true definition of the word.
Some still consider Independence as the greatest "dynasty" in NC high school football.
It only lasted 7 years and one coach and Indy won nothing before and nothing since.
That is not a "dynasty". That is just an incredible run within one decade.
The Webster dictionary definition of a dynasty is;
Dynasty
A family or group that maintains power for several generations.
That is the definition. That is not "depends on the way you look at Dynasty"'.
You can make stuff up to fit YOUR definition, like Indy. But it is not accurate to the word.
It is not a "true" dynasty.
Reidsville's dominance for four decades, from 1930 to 1970, certainly qualifies as dynastical. Call it that for that period.
But it abruptly stopped for the next three decades from 1971 to 2001, not even making a Championship Title game..
What they have accomplished in the last 20 years puts them back in the hunt.
But you can't ignore a recent 31 consecutive year absence.
The word "maintains" is in that definition for a reason. And we didn't put it there.
Reidsville is on a good 20 year roll, now.
Not unlike Robbinsville was from 1966 to 1983. 12 Titles in 18 years. But that is not a dynasty either. You went 22 years between 1992 and 2014 Title games or appearances..
Maintain. Sustain.
With Robbinsville's Titles primarily in a 20 year block, your "averages a Title every five years" falls apart, also.
Back to Indy. With 7 Titles in 7 years (100% win percentage in Title Games) , Indy could claim they average a Title every five years.....over a 35 year period. It doesn't work that way, BK13T-$.
Since 1968, integration of our public schools, and the "modern Super Bowl era' of football emerging, Shelby has appeared in 25 Championship Title games in those 55 years.
That is 45% of them. Think about that.
And they won 18 of them. That is 33% . Or 1 out of each 3.....for an average....for the last 55 years.
Robbinsville's 15 Championship Titles is outstanding. 12 Titles in 18 years will probably never be matched. Congratulations.
Claiming some value to winning them all under one banner, the before and after merger NCHSAA, is nonsense.
Your first 6 Titles were won while avoiding the possibility of competing against 44 of some of the best public programs smack in the middle of the state.
Some of them went on to dominate in 1A after the merger. Heard of Albemarle or Thomasville ?
There is no guarantee that none of the members of the old WNCHSAA would have evolved into 1A programs had the split never occurred.
No attempt to diminish your Titles here. They all "count". Just clarifying that there were no "true and unified State Titles" until after ALL public schools merged under one governing body in !977. And that substantially changed the makeup of the previous NCHSAA. Look how many former WNCHSAA programs have dominated since 1977.
A Championship Title in each of the last SEVEN DECADES, including this one.
Back to Back (or more) Championship Title game appearances in each of the last SIX DECADES prior to 2020.
Most playoff appearances. Most playoff games. Most playoff wins. Highest playoff winning percentage.
All-Time wins leader in North Carolina.
That is what meets the definition of a "Dynasty".
A True Dynasty
