MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (August 29, 2017) – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team ranks No. 6 today’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I women’s National Poll.
The Mountaineers (2-1) entered the season ranked No. 1, a position they held through one week of competition. The squad earned one first-place vote today.
UCLA (4-0) sits atop the poll, followed by No. 2 Florida (4-0), No. 3 Virginia (3-0), No. 4 Penn State (3-0) and No. 5 Stanford (2-1).
USC (1-0) ranks No. 7, and Clemson (4-0) sits at No. 8. North Carolina (2-1) and Georgetown (3-1) round out the top 10.
The Mountaineers also rank No. 6 in this week’s Soccer America Women’s Top 25 and No. 7 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Division I Top 25 national Rankings. Penn State, WVU’s next opponent, ranks No. 1 in both polls.
WVU kicks against the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 7 p.m., at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. It’s Camper Reunion Night, and free admission will be given to those who wear their 2017 WVU women’s soccer camp t-shirt. Additionally, NCAA College Cup replica rings will be given to the first 1,000 fans in attendance. It’s also a Gold Rush, and fans are encouraged to wear gold in support of the Mountaineers.
The squad stays in Morgantown to face Wright State on Monday, Sept. 4, at 6 p.m. It’s a double-header with the WVU men’s soccer team, and one ticket will grant admission into both matches.
