I tried this a couple of weeks ago but was asked to wait until we had more games under our belt. Well, we're now about a third of the season in so I will ask again.

Mike Greenberg on ESPN's Get Up asked this question of his panel regarding the NFL preseason about their predictions that went badly, The segment was funny so I will try it here,

What prediction did you make regarding the Pirates or Big East BB that went wrong?

I'll start.

I said with total confidence that The Hall would win their first 5 games in blowouts. That said, they did win all 5 games by double digits. But two of the games were much closer than the final score.

I’ll bite. I thought the team would struggle in the OOC. Given the roster turnover, last place predictions, and Hines needing time to develop.

Through 1/3 of the schedule this team has proven the sum is greater than the parts.

happy to have been wrong on several fronts.

I didn't post it but in my head I thought that Mike Williams would be like our 5th or 6th guard and get end of bench minutes. I don't think I'm the only one who thought that and I'm glad most got that one totally wrong. In my book he's been the biggest surprise. Love his game.

Based on the above I clearly believed that Fisher would have been our second leading scorer and probably our second best player.

After last year, I was leery to make any predictions. We now have a team that is so enjoyable to watch.
We should be, for the most part, in every game with a chance of winning.

Is is impossible to imagine that based on the results so far, that we could only lose to UConn, St. John’s and maybe split with Butler and Nova?

Williams, Fisher, and Payne are way better than I thought. I wasn’t sure what to expect from Staton-McCray given what happened at Miami but he’s been outstanding too.

Everyone else I’d say about as hoped/expected but when you have 4 guys going way over (and not a fluke) it elevates the floor. 👏

To me Simpkins is the most pleasant surprise. He brings it every game on both ends of the floor and has a real good knack for timely threes and getting to the basket and finishing.

Fisher is way better than you thought? He’s scored the ball every where he’s played. I actually thought he was going to be our best scorer/player. He’s been slightly disappointing to me.

I’m surprised we’re 8-1, but really surprised because our point guard has been average at best (that’s being nice). Our freshman big has outplayed our senior big (that usually doesn’t happen). McCray, Williams, and Simpkins have been better than I initially thought.

To be 8-1, with a 2pt loss, and get nothing out of Godswill (who started both scrimmages) is a testament to the coaching staff for getting everything out of these players.

Yes, correct. His o-rating, OR% and d-rating are way higher than where they’ve been historically though 10 games at The Hall.

I literally had no idea what to expect. After Monmouth and Wagner my expectations went lower, was unimpressed. Fairfield got my hopes up again.
What i did not see coming was the NC State game being a complete game changer-it could have been a good game in a bad season. Instead it has been a total revelation and a huge confidence booster.

Interesting because his minutes are way down, fg % is worse than his 2 previous stops, he’s shooting 23% from 3 worst of his career, rebs and assists are down from the previous 2 stops. He’s been a lot worse than I thought now looking at stats

i knew nothing about mw, ds or aj. didnt look up their stats or watch any video. i hoped.

i am not sure even i would really think every one of them is better than any player we lost last yr. but that is how i see it.

I was so done I thought we were finished after watching last season. This year I wasn’t as excited for opening night and the first few games but of course kept an eye on them and just got stunned with egg on the face

Going into this season I would have been happy with a .500 overall record and 7 BE wins. Now the sky’s the limit!

Like others have said, I did not know what to expect and had never seen any of these players before other than Fisher and that was a forgettable DePaul team.. I thought better than last place, but not this. Love how in a few of the games like KS, we go up by double digits and the other team makes a run and we fight back and make our own little run. I like that in this team. Can't wait for Saturday Night. Hope the house will be rocking.

The most surprising part of the season for me is how well these guys play together. I'll be honest that after last year I kind of thought the chemistry issues were because of Sha and wasn't sure that was something he could fix.

Certainly easier to get along when we're winning, but from game 1 it was evident that the chemistry was better than last year. Very happy to have gotten that one wrong.

The shooting rates are about the same but his turnover rate is in half and he’s playing within flow.

Thought at best 5-6 Big East wins, now hoping for 10-12, possibly better.
AJSM- has been great, good at everything, did not expect.
Clark, Fisher- thought they might be a little better, more scoring from each. Clark can run the offense.
Williams- much better than expected. Good player.
Payne- trouble scoring, super athlete.
Hines- very good for a freshman. Shot blocker. Agile, different game than I expected.
Simpkins-thought he would start, good player, can shoot.

Surprised Creighton struggling so much.

NIL and immediate transfers together have made unpredictability the new norm. It’s just one day at a point, but giving Sha more resources has obviously helped in terms of roster construction. I wonder in his wildest dreams if he thought things would come together this quickly.

Could SHU be this years Missouri? I bet a lot of their fans never saw what was happening last year.

I was predicting a best case scenario of 6th in the BE but more likely 8th or 9th.

I was wrong about the 2nd & 3rd tier teams in the Big East. I had Creighton & Marquette as tournament teams and thought 1 more may emerge from the 3rd tier of Georgetown, Providence and Nova. All have really disappointed while 3 teams I had in my bottom-third have looked good - SH, Butler & X.

Creighton looks like a team assembled by a bunch of misfits.

Marquette doesn’t even look at the portal. Insane.

A couple on the macro level...

I said PJ had NO CHANCE to succeed at SHU.

Then i said Amaker would best PJ.

I have to admit that I'm still so curious what would've been the program's trajectory had Amaker stayed here instead of going to Michigan. Could he have settled the locker room the following year? I'm sure he would've continued to recruit at a high level, and while he is not the coaching equal of P.J., he was good enough to get us to a Sweet Sixteen with the nation's No. 1 class coming in next. It all seemed so promising. I'd never say we would be back to within a lousy whistle of a national championship, but I believe with some conviction that we would've remained a consistent top-20 program had he spent ten years here.
