Hard to disagree. But with Coach K in his ear there was no way he was staying at SHU. If the Michigan job didn't open up eventually another would have. His coaching here was transitory in his mind.

I’ll bite. I thought the team would struggle in the OOC. Given the roster turnover, last place predictions, and Hines needing time to develop.

Through 1/3 of the schedule this team has proven the sum is greater than the parts.

happy to have been wrong on several fronts.
And given Sha's historical penchant for slow starts, even with a better roster it wasn't too much of a stretch to think the Pirates would start slowly once again. Very happy we are both wrong. These games are just as important as games in February. You cannot throw them away waiting for the team to "gel".

Historical penchant? How many years are you going by?

I have had so many bad predictions (Halldan had them till he dropped them in the toilet) that there is not enough time for me to list them all.

I have to admit that I'm still so curious what would've been the program's trajectory had Amaker stayed here instead of going to Michigan. Could he have settled the locker room the following year? I'm sure he would've continued to recruit at a high level, and while he is not the coaching equal of P.J., he was good enough to get us to a Sweet Sixteen with the nation's No. 1 class coming in next. It all seemed so promising. I'd never say we would be back to within a lousy whistle of a national championship, but I believe with some conviction that we would've remained a consistent top-20 program had he spent ten years here.
And here we sit 25 years later with only 2 NCAAT wins since the 2 he rung up in March 2000.

Kooky.
