I was at this draft at CAA. My friend’s wife got us passes to the pre draft buffet where at one point I couldn’t stand up because David Stern was right behind my chair talking with buck Dailey who was coaching the Nets then. Loaded draft class full of future stars. This was probably my last year collecting basketball cards. Last year I searched the value of most of these RCs and was a little disappointed that even my Kobe Bryant’s weren’t worth much.
On a separate note look at how valued the center position was in the late 90s. These were traditional back to the basket bigs that defended and scored in the post but most had no perimeter skills. Guys like Dampier and Fuller were lottery picks that had major impacts in college ball but the opposite in the pros. I remember getting Priest Lauderdales card and being amazed at his size. Not sure he ever sniffed a meaningful minute.
