Game will tip at 7:27 p.m. Friday

****

WVSports.com and the WVU Fan Store are teaming up to offer you a chance to win free WVU gear for doing nothing more than participating in our game threads for WVU football and basketball games.

For the remainder of the basketball season when you post in our game thread you will be entered into a drawing for one of two $10 gift cards to the WVU Fan Store (http://westvirginia.rivalsfanstore.com/).

Several hours before each game we will start a game thread and again all you have to do is share your thoughts on the game. All we ask is that you actually give some thought to your post rather than simply going with a one or two word post in an effort to be in the drawing. Also there may be a few surprise items added along the way.

Within 24 hours following each game we will pick two winners randomly and you will be emailed your gift certificate code. While we obviously encourage you to use the card to buy Mountaineer gear you are welcome to use it to buy anything offered, which includes pro sports apparel and fan items.

So no one cares about the first half I guess. Heck I’ll get this started. These teams are playing at a high level. Zova not comfortable and fortunate they didn’t turn ball over another 4 or 5 more times.

Bob Huggins is the greatest coach in the USA! Now is the time. Esa to get involved. Dax to light up! Konate to DOMINATE. Tanked again. Need this win!!!!

Very good game so far. Konate needs to get on the low block. Tighten up the D in the 2nd half and we should be good to go.

....refs sure helped...didn't flip no "switch"....refs finally showed up...when we foul, refs "just calling what they suppose to"....they foul?.."got away with one"...if tv sees it, we seriously gettin' hosed....IMHO....

The wheels are off again as in many other "must win" games this year. Gutty team. Fun to watch. But a one trick pony. Gimmick defense. Got to find some shooters who are consistent or this is the best we can ever expect. An 11 loss season is not spectacular no matter what the excuse mongers say. Anxious to see how the resident professional writer, know it all, blowhard from the Villages (he says) explains this one.

Brunson 27 points, 4 assists. He totally outplayed Carter in the final 12 minutes, and it wasn't even close. Carter had to outplay Brunson if WVU was to have any chance of winning. That was the story of the game. The momentum changed on Villanova's 4-point trip down the floor when Ahmad couldn't get a rebound on a missed FT, then Brunson took over.

22 of 26 from the foul line and 55% from 3 is hard to beat, even without Carter, Konate, Miles, and Bolden in foul trouble. Are you ready for some football?

I think the game changed when Konate went to the bench with his 3rd foul. Oh well, great season anyway. Keep climbing that hill and get a special player to come in and we could be set in the near future.

I'm not the type to make excuses, but I do believe in congratulating the victor. So kudos to Nova. They were the better team, and that's why they're the #1 seed. And I'm not the type to knock our guys either. The Mountaineers played tough all season and I'm very proud of this [WVU] team.

Hopefully, our newcomers will help ease the loss of Miles and Carter. It'll take a year or two. Plus, hopefully our "homegrown" kids have a good rest of their career at Fairmont or Shepherd.

Well said. Hope they go on to win it all.

Just like Kansas in the Big XII championship, the cream rose to the top in the end. Konate is a good player, but Spellman outplayed him. A lot of Konate's problems are between his ears. Carter couldn't put the team on his back and Brunson did. Carter is just not a reliable offensive player. Harris and West missed some reasonable shots near the bucket. The refs did call it excessively tight and lopsided in the second half. Not as egregious as the Kansas game, but they let Nova get away with some nickle-dime stuff that they were all to eager to call against WVU.

Everyone should be proud of the Mountaineers who overcame many short comings to reach the B12 finals and NCAA Sweet 16. They never quit.

No offense means no elite 8. We don’t have offense. Our defense don’t stop good teams. Huggs has always failed in March at Cincinnati and now at WVU. He has got to start recruiting some offense.

We just gave up 90 points. Ouch! So much for defense. I’m very frustrated.

lol...wear those rose colored glasses much? Butt kickin' the last 12 minutes. BTW: team staggered to a 10-10 record for last 20 games...hardly great.
LOL....

Yeah. Great game. Sweet 16. Loss to a heavy favorite for national champs. Let game get away in the last 25%. Made it further than all teams this year except 8. Carter played all out with full effort the entire game despite being outmatched.

That's sports. Not going to be the best all the time but you better play with 100% effort the entire time. Which they did.
