In all candor, the possibilities for the FO part of FAFO alarm me. I would ask Tom to nuke this thread. (I myself have crossed a line once or twice and felt it necessary to ask Tom to step in.)

Yeah, you read that correctly. In 30 years of teaching undergraduates, I’ve seen a lot of, ahem, cleavage. I usually ignore it - or pull a Jerry Seinfeld - but I’m having a difficult time this semester with one particular student who sits right in front of me when I’m talking to the class and apparently has no qualms displaying her physical attributes.

Today, as I was handing out an assignment, I happened to look at her and noticed not just her cleavage, but also that her nipples were protruding through her top. As soon as I saw that, I immediately looked away since I’m like 40 years older than them and not a perv.

Confounding my dilemma is the fact that she’s very attractive (you can throw a flag, but it ain’t gonna’ happen) and an outstanding student who asks a lot of really good questions, so I HAVE to look at her.

After class, as I was walking back to my office, I thought…why not ask the AKB for guidance and advice on how to deal with this “problem” since, let’s face it, what else is there to discuss right now?

So, anyway, what do all ya’ll got for me?

Some of those goggles they wear at atomic tests.

I’d tell her she is getting an A and don’t attend. Class anymore. That or promote her to the next class ex 201 goes to 301 and let them deal w it

I actually hesitated before posting but figured we’re all adults, and I sincerely am interested to see if anyone has any constructive suggestions. I guess the advice so far is don’t look and don’t say anything, which is what I was going to do anyway.

FYI - The pic I posted was some rando from the internet.

I am also a retired professor of nearly 30 years, and this particular 'issue' came up a couple of times for me as well. Despite all of the mid/late life fantasies one can dream up, this usually involved students who, I'm convinced, were simply dressing the way they dress. I did discuss the phenomenon with the wifely unit and she laughed at me, "Of course she's aware of what she's doing!" I remain unconvinced.

There was one student that REALLY stands out in this regard. A very good student like the OP stated and beautiful. Her behavior of choice was more along the lines of a Sharon Stone sort of move several times during class. She almost always wore very short skirts to class.

She received the highest possible grade.

True story: I supervised a group of people and each semester we also had a couple PSU interns. In fall 2002 we had three interns, and the first day of the internship was the first anniversary of 9/11. And two of the interns showed up dressed professionally. The third was wearing a backless crochet top cut down to THERE. Plenty of sideboob on both sides. And to top it off, er, perhaps bottom it off, she was wearing very low cut jeans with much of a pink thong revealed. Despite being urged by the men of the group (younger men) to say nothing, at the end of the shift I pulled her aside (after discussing with my supervisor and HR) and explaining our somewhat dressy casual style. And it was never a problem again, although the guys were disappointed.

Of course, your situation is slightly different, so YMMV. Good luck!

I am 100% confident that she is not dressing like that for any reason other than that’s how she dresses. In fact, there’s really nothing wrong with it. I’m really only concerned about what might happen if I “accidentally” look at the wrong time, which I believe I have the ability to not do.

One day at a time there Mr. lucky. The semester will be over before you know it. You got this.

This thread reminds me of a story as told to me by a colleague I worked with. The names have been changed to protect the innocent and this falls under the category of "be careful how you express yourself". My colleague, who I'll call Dr. Freud was about to give an exam to a class of approximately 80 students. He noticed several were wearing hoodies with the hoods up. If you teach long enough, you recognize this as one way students cheat by hiding answers in their hoods (either written there or holding cheat sheets). So, he announced to the class, prior to distributing the exam, "take your hoodies off". He gave out the exam and returned to his desk to proctor the students as they took the exam. A few minutes into the exam, a female student approached his desk as said, "Dr. Freud, I can't take off my hoodie". He asked why as she said, "I'm not wearing a bra"!

Like I said in my original post, you can throw the flag cause there ain’t no pictures coming. I will, however, see if I can find an image of someone who resembles her. If I do, I’ll post it.
You're egging us on, man. Please . . . more.

That’s what I have been doing and what I am going to do. But it’s distracting and I have this fear that she’ll look at me at exactly the wrong moment, if you know what I mean.
That may be a good thing. Your eyes will lock. She'll give you a slip of paper after class with her cell phone number on it. You'll meet. You won't be able to get it up. She'll sit in back of the class forever more. Case closed, semester over. Back to porn.
