Portal- Jan 2-16
‘High School Sign On Period’ doesn’t matter anymore
The portal opens for 30 days for that team whenever a coach leaves
Correction, a new rule changed it to the portal opening for schools when a new permanent, non interim, coach is named. This was enacted about one week before we fired Franklin.

I would be very interested in hearing your compelling reasons why DeBoer would make such a severe downgrade in position.
Rumor is Deboer and Bama haven't been a great fit together, which is driving some speculation he may consider leaving. It's tough being the next coach after the legendary coach. IIRC, it's the 2nd coach after the legendary coach that tends to have more success in those situations.

If CJF gets a new job immediately his buyout drops to basically zero. If so, a $15M buyout for Rhule wouldn't be a problem should PSU still want him.
It would be incredibly effing stupid to pay a $15 mil buyout for Rhule. We would be the laughing stocks of college football.

I'd be happy with Brohm, if that happens. I have zero insight, but think it's possibly someone that hasn't been discussed here yet. We have no idea who all Kraft has spoken with.

I'm not saying he's the next coach, but if PSU wants him I doubt $15M stands in their way, especially with Franklin's buyout likely to be next to nothing.

From many sources the fit is not great. He is from South Dakota and not a good old southern boy. If you think that does not matter in Alabama, think again. Now, if he wins like Saban did, they will build him a statue next to Saban and Bear, but if he falters again this year, the pitchforks will be out. Having said that, he is on track to play for the SEC championship and a CFP playoff berth, so I do not think this is realistic

I agree it would be a massive downgrade for him, but getting out of Alabama may be appealing.
Why would it be a massive downgrade?
Bama has more recent success, of course, but tougher to win, fans way more demanding (ask Bill Curry) and not a great place to live.
If we are willing to pay him more and open the NIL checkbook, not sure why its a massive downgrade.

The top ones (power 4) we're not hearing much about would be the most likely ones at this point like Elko Brohm Drinkwitz Key Lea even Campbell. The flavor of the week Hartline? no.

However, it has been reported that Meyer is interested in the job. Make of that what you will. Does he know and like any coeds at PS?

Pat S and Tulane getting boat raced by 3-4 UTSA, 31-12 at half.
He’s obviously taking a dive to miss any late season games and increase the chance to move to Boalsburg

Interesting tidbit from espn regarding Elko:

also, Sean Spencer is the defensive line coach and Collin Klein is the offensive coordinator. I believe Franklin interviewed Klein for PSU offensive coordinator a few years ago

At First I agreed with your thought process. Then I got to thinking.....this move wasn't made because of what happend. It happened before and each time Franklin pulled the team back the next year and we didn't suck again. He proved he could do that. This move was made because Kraft thought he could do better at that leadership position for the University. So I stick to my "you don't fire JF' for Matt Campbell.
Don’t discount the very real possibility that the big boosters were closing their wallets on James. Money talks.

I was just talking with a Coworker who is a Michigan fan about Elko and A&M. He said that Elko would be a fool to leave A&M now but I countered that A&M is and will always be #2 in their own state to UT. Regardless of the Booster $$, PSU is more likely to win a Natty over A&M.

My contention, it's hard to sell kids on National Championships when they don't even think you're the best program in the state.

The only possible shot with Elko is his ties to the NE and whether or not he or his family want badly to come home. With the team he has going this year I think the odds are slim to none.
