That would be a huge hire.Elko is in play. Very in play

I'm still hoping for Elko...or HartlineNo, no, no!!!
Do you have a contact that says there is interest ? I’m not seeing it much in social media .I agree but it does seem that DeBoer is interested. He wouldn't be my pick nor do I believe at least at this time it will be him. He has no connections to the east at all and that's a stickler for me.

Very true. I would be happy with Drink. I am not an insider at all, but my gut tells me Diaz gets the job.Yes, to a certain extent. However, Mizzou hasn’t been a power in football in many years. It’s taken a lot of work to get them back to where he has them. Getting them further is the next hurdle, but it won’t be easy in the SEC.
Good to hear about his wife. I married a Texan and have lived in one of its better spots (Austin) for 20 years and we both can’t wait to leave once we retire. It’s a good draw due to its economy and affordable cost of living, but in many quality of life factors, it’s down there in the sludge with the typical characters like MS, LA, Arkansas, etc. The public school system is now going to go to **** after the wealthy, hugely hypocritical, religious billionaires who effectively run this state crammed taxpayer-funded private school vouchers down our throats.Valid questions--based on what is being said:
His wife doesn't like Texas and wasn't thrilled leaving Duke to go to A&M
He sees the Big Ten as easier to navigate and Penn State as a program that should/could be in the playoff yearly
The SEC going to 9 conference games just made his life way more difficult--having to play Texas, LSU and (I think) Mizzou yearly was arguably the worst draw of any SEC team. Next year he has to play those 3 plus Bama, South Carolina, Tennessee and Oklahoma. They also play ASU in a non-conference game. Compare that to our schedule
Elko apparently never saw A&M as a destination job--just a better opportunity to showcase what he was capable of accomplishing.
Inside contact info ?I'm still hoping for Elko.
My understanding is she's from New Jersey and they met at PennGood to hear about his wife. I’m not sure where Elko’s wife is from, but if she’s from the Northeast like he is, I can see Texas - and especially College Station - as being a bigger turnoff as the years go by.
They're prepared to deal with Elko (unlike 4U I haven't heard DeBoer) making a deep playoff runInside contact info ?
How do you sign DeBoer or Elko when they might go deep in the playoffs ? How would you keep any recruiting class together ?
Dude - College Station is an armpit. It’s fire ants, mega churches, and max security prisons. I’d take a hometown discount to get the eff out of there - even if Central Pa isn’t exactly Paris. At least you’re gazing out at mountains and bucolic streams and farms and not the backside of a Buccees complex and ranches with straggly Charlie Brown treesWe're allegedly prepared to pay "more than Smart" is making this year
I believe he's making 13 so--yeah, we're probably going to rely on Pegula and offer that.
Personally, and maybe I'm insane--but if I'm Elko I'd leave some money on the table.
Only way it’s remotely possible is if A&M loses a couple games the rest of the season. Otherwise we’re waiting until mid-January to interview him when almost every other good coach is already off the board and every decent transfer has been snatched up from the portal. Then we finally interview him not knowing for sure if he’s really interested and A&M can counter with a big fat extension. The risk is sky high no way it happens.tough sale on this one as he will be in the CFP and PSU cannot realistically wait till then.
Nice. All the better for us if they have daughters - I’ll just leave it at that.My understanding is she's from New Jersey and they met at Penn
I would take either of thoseI'm still hoping for Elko...or Hartline
Thanks for sharing. This really ought to be sorted by the last column.Someone on BSD did an interesting statistical analysis on talent vs winning percentage by all head coaches over the past 10 years. The list below (and also at the link provided) shows WET values (Wins Exceeding Talent) for all notable coaches. Not perfectly apples to apples for everybody but still an interesting comparison. The original BSD post is at the link so you can read about how the numbers were calculated. From highest to lowest WET and WET per 12 game average:
If you read the comments, the numbers for Brohm don't include his Western Kentucky years. With those included he moves up to 2nd in WET.
- Kirk Ferentz 26.20 2.44
 - Nick Saban 19.57 1.99
 - Dabo Swinney 17.44 1.53
 - Curt Cignetti 16.45 6.37
 - Lane Kiffin 15.78 1.84
 - Matt Campbell 14.70 1.40
 - Kirby Smart 14.69 1.45
 - Eli Drinkwitz 13.84 2.18
 - Jeff Brohm 11.21 1.33
 - Brian Kelly 10.29 1.04
 - Lincoln Reilly 8.59 0.95
 - Billy Napier 8.01 1.07
 - Mike Elko 7.13 1.94
 - James Franklin 6.49 0.60
 - Bob Chesney 6.05 4.03
 - Brent Key 4.37 1.34
 - Marcus Freeman 3.57 0.95
 - Matt Rhule 0.69 0.09
 - Kenny Dillingham -0.13 -0.05
 - Manny Diaz -0.22 -0.05
 - Alex Golesh -0.61 -0.33
 - Sean Lewis -1.48 -0.27
 - Clark Lea -2.13 -0.49
 - Brent Pry -4.90 -1.51
 - Mike Norvell -5.05 -0.96
 - Jimbo Fisher -5.07 -0.61
 - Scott Frost -9.07 -1.45

At least from these numbers, Brohm and Campbell stand out as two of the best plausible options although I'm still not sure if Brohm would leave his alma mater.

Exactly, it is a complete fantasy that the SEC playoff coaches are viable candidates. It would be utter malpractice for Kraft to play that game.Only way it’s remotely possible is if A&M loses a couple games the rest of the season. Been there numerous times. In isn’t as bad as you make it. It certainly isn’t pretty there….Dude - College Station is an armpit. It’s fire ants, mega churches, and max security prisons. It would be stupid beyond belief. If A&M gets to the championship game there will be less than two weeks until signing day. In that time he's supposed to quickly determine how tf everything works at Penn State, evaluate current players and all incoming recruits, figure out NIL options and all financials, put together a new staff, clean up all the messes that were created since October 12th, do the other 10,000 things required of a new head coach, then convince a bunch of players from the south to flip to some school up north sight unseen? Good luck.Exactly, it is a complete fantasy that the SEC playoff coaches are viable candidates. It would be utter malpractice for Kraft to play that game.
It would be ok if he brought about 15-20 players with him via portal over summer. It would be stupid beyond belief. You don't think conversations are already happening? If they decide on him he'd accept the job the day after they're eliminated or win a title. LOL yeah me too. Visually and living there is an adventure for sure.Been there numerous times. In isn’t as bad as you make it. It certainly isn’t pretty there….
You'd have to be a real piece of sh*t to interview for a new head coaching job in the middle of a playoff run. And even if there is such a piece of sh*t (cough-Kiffin-cough) nobody is signing anything so of course there's risk. I guess nobody has ever had "conversations" with other teams in order to induce an extension? And you think he's leaving even after winning a title? Good grief. You don't think conversations are already happening? If they decide on him he'd accept the job the day after they're eliminated or win a title. There's no risk
I heard that and immediately thought Gus has been drinking again. If they hire Kelly it will be very tough to support the programGus Johnson just said Brian Kelly is a perfect fit for Penn State. I couldn't believe I heard that so I ran it back.![]()
Yes, he'd potentially leave after winning a title--there's potentially more to his decision than just footballYou'd have to be a real piece of sh*t to interview for a new head coaching job in the middle of a playoff run. thinking Hartline and wondering if Meyer comes as advisor.I'm still hoping for Elko...or Hartline
No head coach is interviewing for a new job while preparing for the playoffs. It's ludicrous. Yes his agent can talk to 100 other teams but there is 0% commitment and 0% chance there is any negotiation. The leverage and money and bonuses and everything changes as that team wins and loses in the playoffs and as other coaches come off the board.Yes, he'd potentially leave after winning a title--there's potentially more to his decision than just football
What coach wouldn't talk about a job opening while their season is going on--it's the equivalent of saying an employee should never look for another job because they have one. In no way does it prevent him from doing his job.
thinking Hartline and wondering if Meyer comes as advisor.
So you don't believe we've already met with him? He doesn't need to interview during the playoff but absolutely could. No head coach is interviewing for a new job while preparing for the playoffs. Elko agreeing to a contract in December and then leaving A&M after a national championship and bringing all his recruits to Penn State is way beyond even Urban Meyer level fantasy.
Why do we have to wait until mid January to interview him?Only way it’s remotely possible is if A&M loses a couple games the rest of the season. Are we only hiring for next year? This should be a long term decision, not one that’s best for 2026.It would be stupid beyond belief. If A&M gets to the championship game there will be less than two weeks until signing day. Edit: Just looked at their class. Out of 26 kids only 4 of them are from up north and of those only one had Penn State in the top 5.
Seriously...do people think we aren't already meeting with coaches and agents? Why do we have to wait until mid January to interview him?
It would be ok if he brought about 15-20 players with him via portal over summer.
we can say Kraft must do this/can’t do this, blah, blah, blah. We have no say in the matter. Grab some popcorn and sit back.
He’s just saying stuff. He doesn’t even mean it.Gus Johnson just said Brian Kelly is a perfect fit for Penn State. I couldn't believe I heard that so I ran it back.![]()
Yep. Poster is a troll. He has now endorsed about 15 coaches. He’s just saying stuff. He doesn’t even mean it.
They are also some really "strange" people. I remember my Nephew was looking at Schools in TX and went to A&M to visit and he came back and said no way they are weird.Dude - College Station is an armpit. It’s fire ants, mega churches, and max security prisons. I’d take a hometown discount to get the eff out of there - even if Central Pa isn’t exactly Paris. As usual you are wrong. Manny Diaz will be the next head coach hereI'm still hoping for Elko...or Hartline
I don't endorse Brian freaking Kelly. That's a good way to end our program. I was simply stating that Gus Johnson is a freaking idiot. If you even are paying attention you will notice that I didn't "endorse" anyone, simply put out names that were possible matches. With that said right now I think it's going to be DiazYep. Poster is a troll. He has now endorsed about 15 coaches.
Your logic is entertaining as usualSo you don't believe we've already met with him? He doesn't need to interview during the playoff but absolutely could.
Did us meeting with Harrline hurt him last week?
Who said he'd bring all his recruits? A&M likely isn't winning a title but your post is odd. It ignores reality for what you think is proper.
Oh no...I had a typo while responding on my phone...you lost all credibility there kiddoYour logic is entertaining as usual. What does “Harrline” and other coordinators have to do with it? I’m sure Sexton has talked to us along with a dozen others on behalf of his client. The best we can get out of that is “yeah he’s interested”. But Elko would be a complete moron to agree to another coaching job before the playoffs are over and lose all leverage with us and A&M and anybody else that might be interested. Elko is trying to win a championship and has millions of dollars in incentives if he does. Plus millions of potential dollars from a new employer or his current employer. He’s all in on this year until they’re done and his situation might change in 100 different ways between our conversations with him and the end of their playoff run.
We would be monumentally stupid to wait until late January when every other option is gone just based on that “yeah he’s interested” conversation.
