No program should take years to rebuild with the portal
This isn't the 80s or even a decade ago--coaches get 2 years in most cases.
Winning national championships would have made coach Franklin above average too.
If you’re looking for a blind Paterno lover, you’ll have to look at someone else.
I can’t judge blanket “this guy should have played over that guy” arguments without the specifics. I know we had 3 years of Koa Farmer and I know that at no point in either person’s career was he better than Micah Parsons.

With the portal, results are expected immediately. See what Cignetti, Smart and Lanning did.
Yes, and probably a combo of skill, good luck, etc., etc. That mindset is going to bite a lot of schools when they don’t give it 3-5 years.
Yes. Its called delusional thinking as if retreads from other programs will fill a roster that can compete with the likes of OSU. With revenue sharing most programs will be able to pay their best players so the ones going into the portal are those what could not see the field at their school of choice or if there was a coaching change where the fit was not there. People point to Cignetti as a outcome that can be replicated. Only way it is replicated is if you bring in a good coach with all his players from his previous school or if the cupboards are stacked with talent, not when your recruiting class will be abysmal for 2026 and your roster is picked over by other programs. That is not happening when you are looking at P4 coaches from strong programs.Only 2 yrs?

The qb that beat PSU today was one of those portal players who actually started for an ACC school last season. Where would IU be without him? Oklahoma’s qb played at WSU last season, and look how he’s transformed that program.
You definitely can get game changers in the portal. The new coach either is going to bring a qb and several other players with him, or bring in a qb from the portal who probably has started somewhere.
Nothing wrong with Grunk, his receivers missed catchable balls, Indiana's receivers made catches of uncatchable balls.
Regardless, this program has absolutely zero depth at that position, so the new coach probably needs to bring in at least two QBs and three if Grunkemeyer leaves.
Yeah regardless of Gronk’s ability, they’ll need at least 1 portal qb. Will challenge to start and hopefully be viable backup if he doesn’t.

Franklin was way below average vs top 10 teams and vs OSU and UM.
You are the one who used annually as a description for the rankings under Franklin.
I don’t have a problem with giving Franklin credit for his many good seasons. But, when Franklin lovers try and over inflate the amount of success PSU had under his leadership by using descriptions like annually and/or great, they should be ready to support their view.

Louisville losing means they’re almost definitely out of the playoffs so I’d say it might be even more likely that we hire Brohm, not less. Also, Missouri is almost certainly out now as well so Drinkwitz should have plenty of free time to chat at the end of the month.

Inconsistency has killed this team. Some of his throws were a little behind the target but could have been caught.
My guess is whoever confirms that he’ll be able to bring a lot of his current players and recruits will go a long way into who is offered this job, because the roster is going to need to be filled after all of the departures immediately after the Rutgers game. That’s why names like Brady are farsical.
I have my doubts that Brian Hartline would bring anyone along with him.
Never said you cannot; that would be idiotic; PSU has had excellent success with select players from the portal. Hell, Downs was a portal addition to OSU and we know how that went. What I said is that you cannot build an entire roster through the portal and be competitive with the likes of OSU when your recruiting classes are dog s**t and your roster is picked clean of your top talent. Even if you can cut a check for the likes of Mendoza for 1 year for 1.6m or 2.4m for Caleb Downs, or 4m for J.. Smith, you need another dozen or more elite players to fill out a roster that can improve over a 10 and 2 season.
Yes. Definitely should put Grink play unless he moves to UF or LSU, and Brohm, unless he stays put at his alma mater.
No coach can confirm this. Each and every player would need to be recruited and paid accordingly..
