I don’t know if it will be Drinkwitz. However, he did beat OSU in a bowl game, and has shown the ability to recruit really good offensive skill players; two seasons ago and this season, he’s had one of the best running backs in the country, and last season, he had one of the best wide receivers in the country. Also, he’s at least built Mizzou into a very representative SEC team; I think that we all know that it’s unlikely that Mizzou ever is going to surpass Bama, UGA, Texas, OU, LSU, Tennessee and TAM on a regular basis. Finally, he must have done something right to come into Southeastern PA and get a star high school qb.Right now in MY opinion it's down to 3:

If I had to put percentage odds, probably 50 percent Drinkwitz, 40 percent Brohm, 10 percent Hartline.

But at the end of the day he is probably as good as Franklin, and I think in 2 years we can possibly get back to 9-3/10-2 level teams. It's not a home run, it's a double inside the third base line

So why do you assume that the new coach won’t be able to have 10 and 11 or even 13 win seasons? Who knows; maybe the new coach won’t be able to replicate what Franklin did. On the other hand, maybe he’ll be able to elevate this program into the next level on a consistent basis.

I agree with you in the expanded Big 10. However, before the West Coast teams were added, it also wasn’t the most difficult thing to win nine or ten games while playing a Big 10 schedule when you basically had much better talent than every team on your schedule except for one or two teams a season, and much superior talent than most of those other teams.

Again, it’s a lot harder than you’re making it out to be and we’ll find that out.
I agree with your 1 and 2 but would sub Diaz for Hartline. They each have the capability of hitting 9-11 wins most years, like Franklin. They are insurance for filling the renovated stadium but not necessarily guarantees to become elite. Not sure we can afford to go high risk high potential reward with a Hartline, Chesney or Golesh. Guys like Chesney are much more likely to perform like Mike Rhoades than Cignetti.Right now in MY opinion it's down to 3:

OSU was decimated in that bowl game. Good win, but take it with a grain of salt.
I am sorry but I just don't see Drinkwitz fitting in the Northeastern US for a prolonged period of time, I'm willing to keep an open mind about him as a coach though. It's just that I've watched his teams in big SEC games and have come away unimpressed (eg- 2024 vs A&M and Alabama also, 2025 vs A&M and Alabama.) Hoping this does not upset anyone but if he is hired it just kind of feels like we're getting Franklin Lite at Penn State. The good news is he likely will not be getting a ten year extension. Hopefully, those days are over.
Beating OSU in 2023 puts him light years ahead of Franklin.
With respect if you have a chance please watch the highlights of the game. OSU had almost all of their starters opt out of the game.

Six seasons including three in a row. We will never be a team that wins 10 or 11 games every year.
Historic data showed that Indiana never won a game at Beaver Stadium until they did.
Besides pointing out we know how ‘23 tOSU/PSU turned out, do you remember how the PSU bowl game also went?
I’ll concede that Penn State could beat Ohio State by 50 if you concede it night happen once every 14 times they play.
The danger in never beating the 2-3 best teams in your league every year is you have no margin for error because those 7-9 win seasons inevitably mean taking bad losses on top of the losses to the best. Creates a thin line to walk.
Always said if you go 10-2 it’s better to lose to average teams and beat the best. You not only wind up ahead of the best teams in the standings (think 2016, or Ohio State those years it lost to Iowa and Purdue but beat Penn State). You get a little bit leeway for the bad or not great losses.
But never ever beating Ohio State or Michigan? You have to be perfect otherwise.
Not since 2020 and that Michigan team had mailed it in. Face it, Franklin was poor versus the two best teams in the conference and that is how he generated his pathetic record vs top 5 and 10 teams.
