I'm torn

I kind of like playing them at the Superdome for obvious reasons, but playing them in the Garden district might be kind of cool as well- but not nearly as convenient.

And yes, we have a game with them in NOLA lined up for the future from what I understand.

The Superdome was a horrible venue for them.....

...at least as far as an intimidating home atmosphere. These stadiums may be small, but as with Louisiana Tech and Troy, they give Tulane an added boost.

The "cozy" nature of the new stadium

reminds me a little of Cincinnati's

I have some Tulane friends. They have been a long suffering fan base. While this stadium may not be that large, I'm glad to see they will have a nice one. I would look forward to playing them there rather than the dome, although when we play them there, there were larger crowds than usual.

Good for them. And I wish once upon a time, we'd started like that. THe stadium would be so much more 'expandable' at needed.

Could that make Tulane a less attractive OOC opponent?

Seems like the Superdome itself was part of their draw, and its proximity to the French Quarter was another.

I realize it's smaller, but how can they build an entire stadium from scratch for $55M while it costs $80+ just to fill in our end zone. And it's not like we're demolishing anything for the new construction (unless you count moving the bleachers).

Seems like it would be a decent place to visit. And from their perspective, a half empty SuperDome isn't nearly as intimidating as this place will be when filled. Tulane has a nice campus ... my son went to grad school there.

We are renovating the entire west side as well...adding additional elevators throughout the stadium...and bricking the outside. Alot of our expenses are also related to future expansions... in that we are placing footings and doing all underground work for a future upper deck, etc. Big difference between building a quaint little stadium in the CUSA and a state of the art expansion in the SEC...

Could have completed our expansion for $10-20mil if the only goal was to simply horseshoe the joint...

Doesn't make it any less attractive to me. That's a decent area to be in with plenty of stuff to do nearby.

It is nice to be around the superdome before and after the game, but it's not that hard to get from downtown to Tulane and back. I doubt having a football game there will make it that much more difficult.

I agree that the Dome is bad for Tulane

...at least as far as an intimidating home atmosphere. These stadiums may be small, but as with Louisiana Tech and Troy, they give Tulane an added boost.

But it's a good venue if you are a MSU fan. I think I would enjoy watching a game at their new stadium- but the bad thing is it's not going to be walking distance to the Quarter before or after the game. I don't think it is anyway- I've never walked from Tulane to the Quarter. Regardless, at best it's a longer walk.

And as far as La Tech and Troy- they actually have an advantage not because their stadium is small but because the crowds are still small compared to what we are used to and it's harder for our team to get up for a game emotionally. I still think that when we play at Tulane- should we play at their new stadium and I'm guessing that we will- it will be about 50/50 MSU fans there. Our fans like playing them and like playing in New Orleans. I wouldn't be surprised to see some MSU fans buy season tickets to Tulane and then sell them. I look forward to some of those people getting banned on sixpack for having ticket selling confusion in the future.

Yeah, I don't know why playing uptown would be a negative. It's an awesome part of the city and is all of a 10min ride to the Quarter. There are bars and restaurants all around and for families there is the zoo, aquarium, and that insect museum even.

I would rather be in a 30k stadium that is mostly or completely filled versus being in a cavernous mostly empty stadium. The Superdome wasnt at all a draw for me or anyone I went to the games with.

Sounds reasonable, and I'm glad we have that sort of forward thinking. The bricks on the outside and going to look great.

To all those questioning traveling to and fro the quarter as an away fan, you'll have a much better time pre-gaming uptown when the day comes for State to travel back to Tulane. I've never really found going to the quarter and line dancing to zydeco amongst the Ed Hardy crowd while having a DJ tell you to raise your 3-1 beers in the air to be much to write home about anyways.

I try to catch a Tulane game every now and then when not traveling to Starkville, and absolutely hate going to the dome to see the front row about 1/2 full. This move will encourage the old money uptown crew, many of which are Tulane grads, to get back involved in gameday. More students will also show up since they live within walking distance.

Going to baseball games on campus to see the home team, regardless of were you graduated, have proven to me to be a nice way to spend an afternoon. The football stadium will be a nice addition to uptown for the same reason.

You won't be walking... It's several miles. You can drive or take the Street Car.. I assume they will serve alcohol too, they do at basketball and baseball games.

What obvious reasons? A Tulane game in the SuperDome is the worst atmosphere for any college football game I've ever been to. A new stadium in the Garden District for them would be a 1,000 times improvement.
