The Athletic published the average amount spent per team in the top hoops leagues.

SEC $9.7 million
B12 8.6
B1G 8.5
ACC 8.2
BE 8.0
A10* 2.3
Low/mid. 525k
*mid major plus— A10, American, etc

Of course these are averages and there is wide discrepancy between the top and bottom teams. The Collectives emptied their money ahead of the House settlement due to uncertainty. That was the major driver in the gigantic amount of money spent on players this year.

Will this change gong forward? Who knows. The collectives are still in business but supposedly the CSC still has the ability to tie NIL payments to real market value. We’ll see. As one coach put it, the coaches want this stuff reigned in but as soon as any guardrails are proposed they are challenged by their own schools’ collectives.

The BE clearly is competitive with the P4. Where does SHU fit in the BE? Still an unknown but House will certainly help.

Whether you believe the best-case scenario coming from the University (6.5m) or look at the value of the players on our roster (around $4m), we are still in the bottom tier of all P5 teams.

At $4M we have HALF of the AVERAGE Big East team. Let that sink in. And we still have no GM or any reason to think we have a good grasp of how to compete in this new era of Free Agency & highly paid players.
