As good as he was, ya’ll still missed the tourney and lost to Hofstra at home lol. Who cares. The kid Mag was way more important to keep then this guy. I wouldn’t be surprised if your staff just didn’t match it because all funds are being allocated to keep that Number 2 recruiting class intact. If I was your staff, number 1 for me is making sure Dylan, Ace, Dellquan and Luther are paid, signed and sealed. To hell with Cam Spencer. You’ll be a preseason top 15 team in 2024.
There’s a continuity element that’s crucial for a school like Rutgers that hasn’t yet established itself as a reputable hoops school. Sure, we’ve been teased with success for a few years now and are on an upward trajectory, but in order to continue that tourney appearances, etc. are crucial. Regardless of the ‘24 class coming in, missing the tourney 2 years in a row would be a blow

from here on out anyone who complains about on court performance the only response needs to be "how much did you give to help the team win....
You may be right that is where things appear headed, but that is not appealing or possible to many, and may end up killing the goose that laid the golden eggs.

If my options are pull money from elsewhere to hold onto Cam for another year or keep that money earmarked for another big 2024 guy, I’m letting Cam walk.
If those are the options agree. But we need to be in the NIL position to get both.

Where is TKR? Aren’t they supposed to help hold onto current players? How much did they give Cam so far??

If we can’t hold onto Cam, our NIL is worse off than I thought.
I don't have a peak behind the curtain but I don't think it's as black and white as how well a school's NIL machine is working. Somehow the Ace Bailey deal is getting done and my guess is that would be more lucrative than what a Cam Spencer's retention deal would need to look like. I could be wrong on what it would have taken to keep him though, there may be folks affiliated with other schools who have ridiculously deep pockets to throw at Cam. Hard to know the complete picture.

I’m not counting the Ace deal as being done until he signs.

Why can’t we match him with our NIL?

We have to assume at least an opportunity to counter was provided by Cam's people but if what he is getting from another school is way "above market" then you may not be willing to overbid to retain him.

Not a big deal, very much replaceable and ultimately, not that surprising, given the current landscape of college basketball.

The RU roster needs to play a faster and quicker version of basketball, that can push the ball and get shots in transition. Griffiths is really now properly slotted as the starting SG or 2G and we don't have to have him anywhere near the 4 spot.
Bullsh*t. Big loss. IMO was our MVP last year. All around good ballplayer.

Agree, but someone(s) have made a pitch/offer/commitment (one-sided) for him to accept that is likely being weighed. It seems everything will hang in the balance with rosters from year to year.

I don't profess to understand all the ins and outs of NIL, but I don't think it's one big pot split up between our players. There are donors involved that will steer the money towards certain players. It's got to be a lot easier to line up NIL for Ace, a top 3 prospect who will likely play in the NBA, than for someone like Cam, a streaky spot up shooter who is going to be playing in Europe if lucky next year. Any discretionary dollars probably went to keeping Mag, a much more important player. Teams have to make tough decisions on who to give $$ to. Maybe Cam was looking for a raise and got rejected, so he went into the portal knowing he could get his price elsewhere.

NIL is complete garbage

I keep telliing people stop getting attached to the players.

Its all about $$$. Laughable that its about selling t shirts or hoops camp

The Days of oh he bled scarlet for Rutgers is over

I bet the bump for Mag is at play here
It’s garbage . But we have to accept it and compete with it

Just goes to show he didn't wanna be here for the right reasons.
I am slowly absolving myself of believing the current landscape involves anyone necessarily being anywhere for the right reasons. With Pandora's box being opened, the primary consideration for many will be NIL compensation and can you really blame them? Given the opportunity, many will sell their services to the highest bidder.

It's all about the benjamins

Who is we...i dont participate and will not in this charade
The fans . Buying tickets , going to games we are in support of college sports in this landscape . Fans are fans . If NIL really pissed fans off, the fans would leave . Most of these fans say they will care less etc. it’s BS . The fans here criticizing NIL are just crying wolf

This has always been the case. Players transfer up to better programs and more exposure.
Spencer left Loyola last year for a better opportunity.
Fernandes is transferring for a better opportunity.
The only reason players transfer "down" is to get more playing time.

When has anyone transferred to a worse situation for themselves and "I just wanted to go out of my way to make Cincinnati Football better. I really felt they should have a chance at winning."

What are "the right reasons"?

Well sorry to give you bad news, there will no longer be continuity in high level college athletics anymore.
