No racial taunts per PSU

School Issued a 2nd statement saying although there were taunts…no one heard anything racist.

Pretty much the outcome I was expecting…as these stories for the most part are usually false

Carino saying he was told last night RU didn’t hear anything and suspects PSU confirmed with RU today that nothing was heard.

I suppose they could have been said but not heard…but I’m not thinking that was the case. If RU heard the taunts…why wouldn’t they hear the racist words?

Go RU!

there is a big difference between taunts and profanity and racist words so really important to find out exactly what was heard

At the end of the day, it’s not our responsibility to police or prove their student section hurled derogatory racial words at our team. Their administrators may not condone it but without any proof, there’s really nothing they can do but deny any wrongdoing. Thankfully we don’t play again there this year. They’re still scum to me.

How do these stories even get started? Literally a person making something up and then everyone runs with it?
The weirdest part is it looks like this all originated in a Penn State student group’s group chat.

From what I’ve read, everyone from Rutgers who was asked about it said they didn’t hear anything.

What’s the chatter on the PSU board? I’d check myself but I’m banned
Their Rivals basketball board is a ghost town. It's the strangest thing given the size of their fan base, but there are virtually no posts before, during or after a game. For the past day on their basketball board is the "Oops, we ran into some problems" notice. Their fans must post elsewhere or truly not give a ****. I asked Richie in a thread a couple of weeks ago what the deal was, but he didn't respond.

As far as I can tell, same with Maryland, which I don't understand.

Well, whatever it was, the taunting had to be pretty serious in some way, shape or form, because Cam and Caleb - at the very least -made it pretty clear they weren’t happy lol!

My guess is that there were things said, which were heard by other members of their fan group and reported to the fan group's leadership but were not loud enough to be heard by the RU bench.

At the end of the day its a distraction that neither school needs when making ncaa tourney runs. Shocked or maybe not shocked the other thread got over 8k views

My guess is that someone said it, the student group heard it and said cut it out. Once they found out that no one actually heard it from Rutgers they brushed it under the rug. Why else would they circulate a message saying so?

I think they weren’t because of the fat head that was thrown.

There’s a video on Facebook that shows this pretty clearly.

Is posting the South Park Jeopardy episode scene in bad taste?
yes... funny AND cringe at same time,, which is much of their stuff

as for what was said... it is possible someone HEARD something that was not actually said. One of those "what did you say?" moments where the response is "what did you think I said?".. then.. OMG NO

If you watch the end of the game Cam wasn't yelling at the fans behind the bench but at fans on the other side of the court. Looked like some older woman and another guy were yelling back at him. Not students

22:01 on the tape. Sorry I don't know how to set it up.

Wait, we’re going to take Penn State‘s word that nothing improper happened. Have you learned nothing?!

if you watch the replay, the students behind our bench are leaning over the railing and can literally touch our players on the head. Taunting our team in their ears actually inches away should not be allowed. Penn State could correct this but obviously doesn’t want to.
On the other hand, their antics probably inspired our team in the second half to play the way they did. And now their fans can sit home and watch us in the big dance.

Not every school takes the Rutgers Approach, where even if you don't think it happened, apologize profusely to everyone involved.

As Carino reported, Rutgers heard nothing either despite hearing other taunts.

So yea I’ll believe them
The VP of the PSU fan group said it happened - whether it was heard by RU students or not. I believe him. In the law that's called a declaration against interest, which is inherently reliable and an exception to hearsay. ;)

Read again. The statement never claimed it happened.

Just because Rutgers didn’t hear anything doesn’t mean things weren’t said, just saying.

Seems really odd that the leader of the PSU group would just make things up.

No one made things up. The statement says things were “allegedly” said…but there’s been zero proof.

As I’ve said in the first post…cases like this happen all the time.

We can agree to disagree. Here's the statement. The head of an organization - especially at PSU - doesn't make that statement without reason to believe it is true.

“There were reports of a fan throwing a fathead at one of the opposing players/coaches and that is unacceptable, and it’s something that cannot only get you banned from the BJC but face police charges as well. Furthermore, the police have issued a warning to athletics due to the alleged, explicit, racist, and vulgar language directed to members of the Rutgers basketball team.

“The police have issued a warning to athletics due to the alleged explicit, racist and vulgar language directed to members of the Rutgers basketball team. Things such as f-bombs, n-words and other slurs being thrown around are downright unacceptable, and the privilege of sitting behind the benches will be revoked if this behavior continues.”

Or most likely…nothing racist was said.

Yeah the leader of their own fan section made it up to besmirch them.

It's fascinating how they're always the victim.

Like the prosecutors of Sandusky were secret Ohio State and Pitt fans...and RU alum Louis Freeh had it in for them too,..and let's not forget the media that videoed their students overturning a news truck.

Funny how some people are just always the victim...
