Gdawg, didn’t realize Greene had a twin. Does he have any offers?

It’s his first year back on the football field, he set out last year to concentrate on basketball. I will say by years end he will have big numbers, playing opposite side to his brother on offense and in secondary. VERY ATHLETIC!! Check this link out. I could see him having plenty of offers coming his way next spring. He is gonna be a steal for some colleges to red shirt a year , a inch or so shorter than brother but as athletic.. I expect the brothers will be a matchup nightmare for opposing secondaries. Big addition to secondary as well

I know someone will call me out with "fake news" but I thought Kaulin Smith attended North Surry. Did he transfer to Mount Airy?

He transferred from North Surry to Mount Airy last spring. As far as the Greene brothers are concerned, Donovan is a much more level headed athlete and is definitely the D1 athlete of the 2.

Thanks. If Kaulin had transferred from North Surry to Bishop McGuinness we would have seen multiple posts demanding an NCHSAA investigation.

I hope the best for him. He's got strong potential.

Greg Greene will be a steal for a college team, just as athletic as his brother, you red shirt him a year and he is a beast . I could see him landing somewhere like app state. You heard it here first, HE WILL PUT UP BIG NUMBERS THIS YEAR, take it to the bank. Those brothers create nightmares for secondaries

This will be the year in the northwest that we see a few D1 atheletes in the conference, it’s top heavy as all ways . Gosnell is drawing interest from a host of acc schools and even a couple sec schools, after seeing boaz tonight at 7 on 7 , I figure he will have a host of schools wanting him, kids 6’7 goes 225 and looked like he finally found his body , looked very athletic running his routes this evening. Everybody knows Donovan Greene. Setting up to be a standing room only game in the granite city when these two meet last game of the year.

I would love to see both of those teams at 10-0 when they meet at the end of the year. This will be a unique game because of the athletes, but also because both have 1st year coaches in the rivalry. It will be a great year for both of these teams I think.

East Surry better not look over Game #1 against EW. They're will not be a better defensive player on the field than Jayveon Ross.. He brings the wood and is a Qb's nightmare with his speed off the edge. Not saying EW will win..but just saying..it may be more of a game than ES fans are thinking it will be. BTW i dont think East Surry or any 1a team in this area can or will stay on the field against Mt. Airy.

I’m telling yhea and this is coming from a bear fan, East Surry is gonna be as good as the bears, the difference in the two are how they play in the postseason, the Bears have state championship experience. Let’s hope the new coaching staff in pilot mtn can change that . BEARS are loaded with athletes and Gosnell ( qb for the cards ) will go down as the best qb this area has ever seen, I honestly believe that. With all the coaching changes gonna be a very fun year. Wish the cards of Rhonda the best of luck and an injury free year. Who knows, we might see yhea in the granite city come playoff time

Gosnell is 6’3 - 200 lbs - a junior . Got a cannon for an arm, what he was throwing last night was on a rope, is athletic and runs a strong 40. Drawing interest from Ole Miss, NC State, Carolina, and a few others. Heard fedora wouldn’t let him out of his sight at camp this summer, not that Carolina football is much to talk about, heard it was the same way at nc state. He has the build , arm and athleticism to be a very good college qb. Just my opinion. Boaz at 6’7 225 as a junior has d1 written all over him. You can’t coach that, his dad is a tar heel football alum

Does ES have that many weapons at his disposal to throw to..this is 1a ball..just saying..not saying East Surry wont be good..but i wasnt super impressed with them last year...They beat an EW team that for some reason or another played uninspired the last half of the season after starting out 9-0..and even were coached in a less inspiring manner down the stretch...just sayin..

East Surry is in the spread this year, boaz kid plays tight end , huge target, looks a whole lot more athletic this year , moves very good at 6’7 225lbs. He has another kid who’s 6’3 185, very athletic ( Quincy Smith ) , then the Mosley kid is another kid who doesn’t get talked about a lot but gets his yards. Then the Stevens kid is 6’2 around 185. I think you will see Edwards in the backfield, they have a whole lotta weapons. They are young as well , their skill players are all juniors

They sound scary good like they used to be...East Surry may have lost a little bit of the mystique that they always had..but seems they' re poised to get it back..They have always been solid. It seems the spread kind of offense..gives EW fits..maybe their new coach will have them poised to defend it better..the last few years they have scored enough points to win regardless of whether or not they could defend the spread..but a few of those guys that made the offense click..graduated..

It’s early, but that first Friday night in November should be one hell of a game. Like ncball said could be a special year for both. Gonna be fun to watch the two first year coaches in one the biggest rivalries the two programs have

East Surry will have 4 good weapons to throw to. I don’t know how good the line will actually be though because they lost a lot to graduation, and I also don’t know how good running the ball they will be since they lost the better of the Ray kids. This East Surry team is more energized and excited for the season to start than any of the teams I can remember in the last few years. Mount Airy will be very very good this year as well and could easily get back to the state championship game again.

Good assessment ncball04, line play will be in question for the bears as well, skill wise I think this is the bears most talented team since 08. Poindexter at qb kinda puts me in mind of Aaron wheeler/ Austin Taylor, he’s not a 7 on 7 qb, he is a gamer, will put his head down and hit you to, I say by seasons end this group as a whole should be scary good

I know that MA is going to have lots of weapons with Smith at RB and at WR with Rosser, Shelton and the Green brothers, but who is going to be QB? Also, how is the o-line shaping up? Think they graduated all their starting o-line from last year and also a lot of their interior defense

I was impressed by the East Surry qb Gosnell last year in the 3rd round at Murphy...Dogs rocked him hard multiple times and he came back for more.... from the outside looking in it looks like MA ES then everybody else in the NWC...

NCtheone , line play is the question mark for both teams, but it seems to be got the Bears most years and most years it works out. Rossier is gone , playing at Olympic in Charlotte, BIG LOSS. Greene’s twin brother will get his spot at Wide Reciever , picked up Kaulin Smith from North Surry, he will have a big season out of the slot and in the secondary. Sophomore kid will get the start at qb for the Bears. He’s a gamer, will put you in mind of a Aaron wheeler or Austin Taylor, kinda same style QB bears always put on the field. He will have a whole lotta weapons around him. Gosnell at east is a whole other animal this season, I’m high on this kid , I think he will go down as the best qb our area has ever seen. I know it’s early but he has the stats at 6’3 200 lbs and a very strong 40. Boaz at east has the size that has d1 all over it , 6’7 225 at tight end , I can see him playing at the next level as well. Gonna be fun year out this way

Wow. Big shoes to fill for the Gosnell kid. There have been some pretty good QBs in the NW..MVAC..Gonna be tough to surpass..Luke Samples from EW, Jake Barr Starmount..Luke Wheeler Mt.Airy...Shawn Adams/Ryan Porter Starmount...Bryce Vestal EW..just to name a few..

I would take a Ian Holder or Tyler Smith over some of those quarterbacks you just mentioned. The ones you mentioned were good, but they weren’t in the top 5 or even 10 quarterbacks to come thru this area in the last 15 years.

As a junior Gosnell is drawing D1 interest from a wide range of schools. Ole Miss, Nc state seem to be the top two but there are a host of others. To me the boaz kid has the frame to play at the d1 level and beyond. Coaches don’t seem to recruit Friday night stars anymore , they recruit size and combine numbers. It’s great to see in some sense as a lot of 1a players are finally getting recognized. You can’t coach 6’7 225lbs. Same with 6’3 200lbs and a strong 40. Both kids are just juniors. They still got some growing and maturing to do on top of that. Just saying. All the players you mentioned were GREAT PLAYERS but were lacking in some area to as they didn’t play much at the next level. Aaron wheeler is one of my all time favorites, but didn’t have the size Gosnell has , Gosnell has the size , the athleticism, the arm , and the heart to put his head down and run you over if he has to. He will go very far

Some good QBs in their time there but not all are legends of the area. Some not even close.

Please dont act like the Elks won the 03 C- Ship without the 6 or so EW players starting on Offense and Defense..Elks have always been known for stealing players from EW and Starmount...hardly ever vice versa..

Thunderstruck..who would say doesnt belong on that list....Luke Samples Broke state records against that Starmount team that won the state in 98 Luke also went on the break record after record at Catawba...Ryan Porter was the starting QB on that same championship team.and could beat you with his feet and arm..Shawn Adams..was his predecessor and Starmount was 2a and a nightmare as he was prolific in that offense...as well and could outrun defenses and control the offense..Jake Barr was also another legendary Starmount QB...Mt.Airy's Luke Wheeler..and Yes Ian Holder were exceptional...Im just sayin the Gosnell kid has lofty shoes to fill..and that's my assessment..im sure he is and will be good.
