Where did you get your psychology degree? The yips can often be the sign of something else. Don’t forget Simone Biles was abused by Larry Nassar. She has been open about her mental health struggles as a result. Simply because you think the yips are a minor thing, doesn’t mean it is. They could be the manifestation of something much bigger. These yips aren’t like a golfer with the yips. These yips actually could mean the difference in being able to walk any longer or death. For far too long, gymnasts (and many athletes) haven’t been able to speak out about their health, mental or physical. Kerri strug and Dominique Moceanu in Atlanta in 1996 come to mind. Also there was a Russian gymnast who was made to come back too soon from a broken leg. As a result, she missed a flip and broke her neck and was paralyzed. Simone Biles has shown it’s ok to say I’m not ok and can’t go. Much like the shut up and dribble crowd for basketball, you need to realize that she isn’t there for you. She is there for herself and her teammates. IF Her teammates didn’t have an issue with her decision, then why should you?
Lol... losers are now saying Kerri Strug should have quit rather than do the vault that won the gold. She's a LEGEND because of that vault.

Gymnasts are comparing the twisities to the yips. Not me. And I 100% agree with the point that the difference is you can get killed if you do a vault incorrectly, hence I said she made the right move dropping out.

And where do you get this "Simone isn't there for me" nonsense? Who's arguing that she is? And what does this have to do with "shut up and dribble"? You guys keep making up stupid arguments because you can't admit that a simple and factual statement like, "dropping out of the Olympics during an event rather than winning the gold is damaging to a legacy".

I never once said she would have won anyway. Her status as the GOAT is based on what she has done. At this point, no one has achieved the accolades she has. She has earned every single one she got. Those previous championships don’t disappear because of this one Olympics. That is why she is the GOAT.

Saying this Olympics hurt her legacy or at the least her legacy would have been much better if she was able to compete is fair. It also isnt the same thing as saying because of these Olympics she lost her position as the GOAT because she couldn’t compete. Who knocked her off the top? Who did enough in these Olympics to bypass her accomplishments? Who before her now magically has more accomplishments even though they didn’t going into these game because she didn’t compete?

Make your case for the person who has overtaken her as the best ever? Give me a name and reason. People keep saying she can’t be the GOAT but no one has said who the GOAT is because Biles was unable to compete. Let’s hear your argument.

She was unable to compete because it appears she lacks something the great athletes of our time possess. This will affect her legacy going forward (it does not affect her accomplishments to date), and it leaves the door open for someone else to make the claim for being the greatest. Never said anyone HAS overtaken her. It might not even happen. What were saying is, if we're debating who a GOAT is, this sort of incident is a ding on her. And it caused her to miss a LOT of medal opportunities. That matters, regardless of why she had to withdraw.

I'd say "agree to disagree", but I really don't think were even talking about the same thing at this point. Let's move on, I don't want to derail this thread any more.

You keep changing. First you said, Biles wasn’t the GOAT because she dropped out. Now you say that dropping out is damaging to her legacy. Those are two totally different things and positions. I have said her dropping out will
Change her legacy. In some ways it will improve it. It some ways it will hurt it. What it doesn’t do is change her postion today as GOAT.

It’s about her being female not black. Old white men hate strong women. Wait until the soccer team wins gold. Explosion

Is it just me, but I don't recall China being a major player in swimming during my lifetime. I'm almost 57 by the way. I remember the USA, the Europeans, Russia, Australia but not China. What's changed? Couldn't be they're doing something 'better' than they used to? ;)

What sport am I watching right now? Womens handball Soccer?? I've never seen this lol.
I'm assuming you're watching team handball. It's a great game. We had intramural team handball in college and it was insanely popular. Always surprised it never really got any traction in the US.

It's been a really interesting first week overall. There have been lots of memorable moments. Probably my favorite thing so far is that we have gold medal winners from both Alaska and Hawaii.

Weitzel blew the relay for the USA on the exchange. She could have gone well before she did. Odd.

I sure do like watching all the volley ball players’ (womens’) asses and the divers’ asses.

That’s my favorite part of the Olympics.

Btw Chinese/ROC swimmers and Jamaican sprinters I don't know which country is better at Doping. Evidently, they r ahead of the curve.
