Harrington has been claimed by the Ducks.

While Bahl has been playing better lately, I do expect the Devils to get a defenseman or 2. It is nice getting Timo and still having so many tradable assets.

Personally I would like TVR and Tom Wilson.
Did TF know that Harrington would get claimed?

I don't think so. I don't think it is a big deal. His history, and how quickly he was put on waivers tells me he was going to be on the shuttle if he was not claimed.

He like everyone else not named Timo is expendable. The Sharks were up against the contract limit, this plus the salary cap made this deal so big in quantity.

While the Devils didn’t give up the perceived top prospects, they still had to deal a good bottom 6 forward , two 1st round picks and what some fans think is a future star in the lanky Russian defenseman.

While the Rangers trade a bag of pucks for Kane

The Devils gave an adequate package for Timo. The worst part are the 2 picks followed by Tank.

They can give up the picks easily because we have a deep prospect pool. I thought Yegor would go, not Tank Zetterlund. He is steady, but never likely to be spectacular.

Muk is and interesting prospect, but is more of a tools prospect, than a production prospect. If Timo resigns, this trade goes from an A to a A+ for the Devils.

If you are cap compliant you have to dress 18 skaters.

They can call up Schneider tomorrow, and dress Lindgren to put on the bench but not play.
Like the other night when Miller got kicked out. Schneider had to sit there in uniform and not play.

I'm not sure they can dress Lindgren if he's hurt because of CBA / NHLPA reasons. I thought the dresses benching situation was in order to accrue cap space before the deadline so they could acquire Kane. Why cant they call up Zach Jones and continue to paper shuffle Schneider to Hartford on off day?

They didn’t even have room to call up Schneider until after 5 today, they can’t call up anyone else.

There is nothing official about Lindgren being injured that keeps them from dressing him. He is day to day, and is not on IR.

Was talking about the 3rd team involved in trades that are eating cap
That is actually beneficial for the league, especially the players.

The CBA says the players get 50% of the revenue, which is handled by dividing the 50% total by the 32 teams to get the cap.

When teams spend way below the cap, the players are getting screwed because they aren’t getting their 50%.

These 3rd team retaining cap deals help maximize the salary spend and bring the players closer to their 50%.

Fabian "Tank" Zetterlund is playing on the 2nd Line for the SJ Sharks with Hertl. Andreas Johnson is also back in the NHL with the Sharks.

Who’s available for NJ?
Defenseman
Names that might be had,

1. Jacob Chychrun- most likely no, but I wonder if a Holtz package could move the needle.
2. I actually looked tonight and saw Ryan McDonough might be had.
3. J. Klingberg on the Ducks. He becomes a UFA this year.
4. You hate this one, nicknamed Ghost Shayne Gostesberhe.
5. Mackenzie Weegar Calgary Flames. He reportedly wants to be traded. The Devils could put a nice package together. Maybe even trade Severson as part of this deal back home.

I'm still not clear on this. Schneider and Jones have, for all intentsive purposes, similar two-way deals. I believe their salary counts against the cap for each league day they're on the roster, and cap space is accrued it's not static. So why couldn't they call up Jones for a game or a day, and then basically make up for it by sending Schneider down to Hartford for a day sometime next week?

I thought the weirdness of Sunday was because they needed to accrue space for the league to OK the Kane trade. Or are cap implications different post deadline (I believe there is a four call-up rule or limit)?

Lindgren point a smaller one but never know how / when unions push things.

Imagine the Devils trading Marty at the end of his career or the Rangers trading Lundqvist at the end of his? Well, the Kings last night traded away Quick. Not a lot of happy LA fans right now.

With the cap, you can’t make up for something you do today by making a move next week. You have to be compliant today.

They could have brought up Schneider or Jones, there isn’t enough room for both.

Not resigning him or releasing him after this season is good business, trading away one of your legends and not giving him a chance to play his whole career in the uniform he won cups with is bad business.

But Quick could also not report to Columbus.

A report this morning talked about how not only Quick, but his teammates are not taking this trade well. Apparently Quick flew back to LA on the Kings plane.

More talk also that Fitz wants the Devils to be bigger and grittier for the playoffs.

He has to be careful to hold on to picks and prospects since he gave up a lot to SJ

But we need a better defenseman than Bahl-Smith

We didn't give up anything critical to SJ. We expected to have to give up A lot more. Only the picks hurt, we still have 13 of our top 15 prospects.

I expect Holtz to be traded, he needs a change of scenery, and doesn't fit our speed game. We also have an abundance of young defensemen. I have read that Walsh will most likely be dealt.

Interesting Fitz was quoted saying he would like to clear up cap space. I think that means one or more of these Devils, Wood, Severson, or Graves. If Blackwood wouldn't have gotten himself hurt again, I would have added his name.

Given all our assets, I could see a surprise coming. Maybe we swoop in offering Holtz + package, and get Chychrun. I think Tom Wilson is a real possibility.

What makes you think Wilson is even available?

Apparently Columbus is now looking to see if there's a playoff team they could flip him to. He's been pretty bad this year though so I'm not sure they'll find a place for him.

Yes, however the Devils are close to the cap and number of contracts they can sign. If all goes well J. Hughes, N. Hischier, J. Bratt, T. Meier, S. Nemec, and L. Hughes will be highly paid stars. You can't give out too many contracts worth at or more than 8.5 million. So this is why it happened, and why it is not critical.

Severson is no prize either in that, though better lately, he still likes to pass the puck to the opposing team.
He is currently seen as the top 3rd pair defenseman according to a report I read from Canada. He has cut down on unforced errors.

Lol-
Pretty simple analogy, when all is said and done it’s what it amounts to.
Kakko protecting the puck but doing 360s in the same spot (give him some credit for keeping it) doesn’t free anyone up or do much to create opportunities.
You’ve got to be skating to open ice or attempting to get away from the walls.
He reminds of Paul being forced to the baseline with no where to go and no one to pass to😊
