Tonight should be fun. 1st round matchups should be set by 10pm or so. Will the Devils or Hurricanes be playing the Rangers?

Wow. Ron Hextall’s legacy is certainly going further down the tubes as a GM. Penguins are not in the playoffs after sixteen straight years in. He burned the Flyers with some bad drafts as well.

Interesting to me that the Hughes brothers don't have their first initial on the back of their jerseys. I wonder if it's just because Jack had already been wearing his current jersey and maybe it will change with the new set once the playoffs start--assuming they still get new jerseys for the playoffs.

Nice WIN NJD. I hope Mac Balsa Wood has played his last Devils game, Akira should be the playoff backup.

In a year of records and streaks, there is no time like the present to beat the NYR and whoever we play after. Luke Hughes already plays like a veteran.

Thanks. I have posted how I didn't want the NYR in round 1, however I have come around, and now see this team getting that monkey off our back.

Hope springs eternal, I'm not saying I think we will win the Cup, but I think the Devils WIN at least 2 rounds.

Anyway you look at it, the future is bright!

Hurts to say it, but Devils in 5.
Bottom line.
Giving the opposition time and space = open ice = bad defense = fun to play against.
Devils in 5, No Ranger lead is safe…they will give shots from the scoring slot all game long

The secrecy around Barzal and any possible return for the playoffs is frustrating. Did I miss any info anywhere because let's be honest that offense needs him desperately. All I hear is he's skating on his own.

Ranger fans still think guys like Kane and Tarasenko are better than Bratt and Mercer…..delusional

It’s lining up for 2 rounds of locals H2H.

NYI in 6. Was going to say seven, but I think CAR is vulnerable.
Not sure who wins NYR/NJD, but I predict either way will depend on Shesterkin. Godlike - NYR in 7. Regular - NJD in 5.

If NJD/NYI - I see a let down and NYI roll in 5.
If NYR/NYI - same prediction for NYR/NJD.

Should be fun.

If the Devils beat the Rangers they will have a letdown? In the Playoffs? I don't think so!

I mean, none of this is a metaphysical certitude. That‘s part of the fun, lol. Mine is just another dumb opinion/prediction, like yours or anyone else’s here.

Young team. After rolling a bitter rival. Facing a team that just squeaked in. And a big, tough vet team that is built for playoff hockey. With a great goalie. Maybe getting Barzal back. Yeah, I can see it.

This year, this team will not have a letdown.

A goalie can always steal a round, but unless the Devils revert back to being passive and watching the game, I think the Devils WIN in 5. Any how this will be entertaining!

Do you enjoy picking against the Devils?
Proud is a fanatic Devil fan the same way I’m a fanatic Ranger fan.
The more our fanaticism grows, the more critical and finding fault we both are.
I was born with this somehow, not sure about Proud.
I challenge our entire coaching philosophy and system….it pains me to watch opposing wingers catch an outlet pass, pick their head up expecting to be pressured and instead see 20 feet of open ice… it sickens me

A whole bunch of both Devils and Rangers fans calling this Devils in 5 just reaffirms what I already knew which is this thing is going all the way to the second OT of the 7th game. These two teams are basically identical in terms of wins, goal differential, etc. The devils play faster, the rangers play slower. So what? Both ways appear to work. Plus its the playoffs now, devils rangers....the regular season is distant history, everything changes now.

I get the nervous/fanatic part. But stepping back off of that ledge, the hypercriticality is kinda nuts. Both these teams finished in the top quarter of the league. These are both good teams. Not perfect…but pretty damn good.

If the Rangers had a different coach with an effective defensive system, I would predict that with the Rangers goaltending and experience they would win in 6 games.

With Gallant coaching and the Rangers giving up so much space, I won’t predict an exact result but with the Devils firepower I am not expecting good things for the Rangers.

The coaching hire after Gallant is let go due to the first round exit is going to be huge.

That is delusional, but I have been impressed by Tarasenko as an all around player, and couldn’t be any less impressed by Kane.

Look at how the Mika line died and Panarin started scoring again after they flipped Tarasenko and Kane about 10 days ago.

As a devils fan worried about the odd man rushes that they continually give up, as well as the periods of standing around or/or waltzing around in their own end.

The time and space results in a large territorial advantage, exhausting ourselves in our own zone and changing lines before we can attack.
Bad formula.

It amazes me that the coaching staff doesn’t seem to notice (and better yet, learn from) how the teams who shut down the Rangers’ offense play exactly the opposite of the Rangers’ defensive system (contest the blue line, take away space).

They are easy to tell apart

No need for a 1st initial

Your view could very well happen. That is why I made mention of their 6 weeks of looking injured and tired. I think they are healthier and ready for the challenge.

Shesterkin is incredible. However I think if the Devils play at least close, to the way we are capable, we have what it takes to win a bunch of close games.

If I see a lot of Devils playing slow, watching the puck, I will be back by Game 2 to say I was wrong.

They have a super advanced video breakdown of every zone.
It’s incredible to watch all 3 of our forwards skating backwards while opposing defensemen accumulate speed,
they have time to pick and choose their option…while our defensemen can’t take a single stride without having to make split second decision with the puck…
WTF
