As a Rangers fan, I really wish the Devils had listened to all the fans complaining about Ruff early in the season. It pains me, but one hell of a run you’re on.

As a Ranger fan, I am less concerned about the Devils being true contenders this year (it is real hard to continue this level of play all season. The odds are they will not be playing at as high a level come playoff time).

What is concerning is that what the Devils are building, combined with the Rangers’ ineptness in developing prospects and likely stupid deadline trades, will mean the Rangers turned a ridiculously good rebuild 2-3 years along into a very short window of quasi-contention because of their usual impatience.

Obviously you are right that they likely cannot keep up this level of play all year, which is why it's imperative for we Devils fans to be as insufferable as possible right now while it lasts. #jbitpitnhl

FYI that was local kid Arthur Kaliyev from Staten Island who took that hooking penalty that allowed the Rangers to get the extra attacker and ultimately score the go-ahead goal.

Well to be fair, he was originally from Uzbekistan, but most of his youth hockey development took place in NJ while he was living in Staten Island until he played 14U as a 13 year old for a team out of Detroit.

Was the move to Michigan hockey related or his parent's job?

I know sometimes when USA Hockey identifies a talent, that's where they go.

The Devils need to get bigger and stronger upfront, but I am glad they didn't trade for Reeves. His game stayed in Vegas 😆.

As far as I know it was hockey related, and I'm pretty sure it was more thanks to the team's scouting than USA Hockey. The AAA organization he played for seems to function like a junior team, drawing players from all over. There were a couple other players on that team that are in the NHL now too. One of the goalies was from Cranbury, NJ and currently plays for Arizona State.

Reeves traded to set up the inevitable Laf for Kane deal...

@krup Remember when we were discussing the Gallant hire, the knock on him (at least in FLA) was his stubbornness with certain players and refusal to listen to GMs suggestion on line combinations? Sounds a little too familiar doesn't it?

It appears the NHL has decided the NJD win streak will end at 13! Toronto will break it. A kid who has never shaved will ref!

Good Day, Happy Thanksgiving!

This ref is lucky I'm not his boss. He would be demoted to the Ontario Hockey League!

Of course it has to end sometime, but to halt it this way sucks! Let the Devils start a new winning streak Friday.

Unfortunately I am missing this game, but I had to look up the disallowed goals after hearing about the commotion going on. The first goalie interference I don't agree with, but the other two were quite clearly the correct call.

Oilers took 50 shots tonight but didn't put a single one of them past Sorokin.

This national schedule is horrible.Teams should play 6 games against each team in their division,3 against each team in the rest of the conference, and 1 against each team in the other conference.

42+24+16=82.

Wow. I was at Devils game. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a game like that in any sport with all of the debris hitting the ice. . I sit low in lower tier and it was scary. Almost got hit with beer cans. People in front of me got hit with beer can etc. One ref - #44 young tall guy was awful. Shame streak had to end like that and had we tied the game - roof would have come down. It was loud. If this was a soccer game in South America - refs may have been killed.

All 3 were fine calls…and I’m a Devils fan.

What a great game.
I ll have to check more closely tonight on replays. All calls were made/ confirmed by NHL office in Toronto which makes me skeptical. Last goal may have hit off tip of Murray’s skate.

Not only a bad Kane trade, you have to expect them to acquire a physical, way too slow, LHD to play on the third pair as well.

Gallant is horrible. The team is having trouble scoring, yet Kravstov sits while Blais can do nothing to lose his spot (including literally doing nothing all season).

The 3rd was the right call. The 2nd was borderline. The 1st was a joke. Even with all the nonsense tonight, they put themselves in a position to tie the game at minimum. No longer is this group soft and easy to play against. They’re a downright pain in the ***. No quit. Go beat Buffalo on Fri.

Three tough calls, the last one made right. The young ref, compounded his rough game by screwing up after the first goal review. I have never seen a NHL ref announce a good goal and point to center ice, then reverse course in one motion. That should be on a gag reel forever.

The second goal has to be called a penalty to be disallowed. He screwed up his verbiage which angered the fans more. Incidental contact does not take the goal away usually. At least it is not supposed to. The third call was correct.

It was a shame to see the fans litter the ice, but it was a frustrating game, where 90% of the critical calls seemed to go against the home team, as well as the bounces.

If another more experienced ref called the game, I believe the Devils win. It was the type of tough game the streaking team guts through before losing the next game. This young ref #44 had a nightmare game, which contributed to the Devils streak ending. I was reminded of women officials on BIG10 officiating crews watching this.

Now side note, I think the NHL should have 2 situation rooms. It would feel better in the heat of the moment, if tonight's off ice calls came from N.Y., anywhere but Toronto.

I just saw the video, the first one was a fckin joke. That young referee should go spend some time in the American League
I looked him up, he played in the minors for a while and then transitioned to officiating, this is his rookie year in the NHL. Just like players, there are always rookie mistakes, and their performance is constantly evaluated by people who decide if they have what it takes to stay at the highest level. Like I said previously, I didn't agree with the first goalie interference call, but even the best refs get these calls wrong sometimes. The worst part for him was butchering the announcement, came off as nervous and unsure of himself.

He needs more seasoning. I do not think the ice gets littered if he does not screw up the first goal call so bad, it looked like a "Dick" move.

After that screw up, Murphy's Law took over.

It doesn't need to be a penalty to be disallowed. Incidental contact outside the crease negates the goal when the attacking player doesn't make enough of an effort to avoid contact. I'd say the majority of people who ref would agree that Tatar could have done more to avoid contact.

Having a second situation room would create more inconsistency, which defeats the purpose of having a situation room. It doesn't matter where it is, it's not like they're just hiring local hockey fans to be part of it.

I guess he was a good enough ref in the AHL to be given a chance at the NHL, but yeah when I just saw the video of him butchering that announcement I was pretty surprised to see that in an NHL game. Hell even in a local youth game, a ref screwing up announcing a call like that would lose all credibility in the players' and coaches' minds, let alone at the highest level of the sport. You can tell he was nervous.

If?

Flyers fans have littered the ice quite a few times since I’ve been watching hockey 😂
The fact is that fans get murdered at other sporting events but it gets less coverage than some stupid Santa story from 1968 in Philly.

Flyers fans threw tons of the LED bracelets on the ice in 2016 when they got crushed and I think there was a smaller incident in 2018 as well. Very curious to see all the other unique incidents that you're about to mention.

On a side note, good to see that the people of Newark, NJ apparently learned they have a hockey team over the last two weeks. Fun team to watch.
