Only Gallant can watch a guy play as well as Chytil has been playing and:

-still not put him on PP1 instead of Trochek (Mika can take the face offs)

-give Trochek over almost two minutes more ice time at even strength.

It also shows how f**king hypocritical Gallant is about what he wants from players as well. Chytil is actually better on defense than Trochek right now, and doesn’t take as many stupid penalties.
I'm puzzled by the whole 'Rangers have won 9 of the last 10 and are way higher in the standings than any rational person would have thought, but their coaches are totally incompetent' line of reasoning.

I’m puzzled how you can think a Stanley Cup semifinalist from last year being 3rd in the Metropolitan division with the 8th best record in the NHL is “way higher in the standings than any rational person would have thought”.

Rumors that Tarasenko is a Ranger. No news yet about the return. My guess is Krav/Gauthier.

With it being St Louis, I am very nervous to hear the return.

Even Krav plus a first is too much, but I am so jaded by the Buch trade I would be relatively calm if it is something like that.

You guys are sending Blias the other way. I think it's mostly draft picks, I don't think you will be giving up much.

It's Blais, Hunter Skinner , a '23 conditional first (The Rangers have 2 this year) and 4th for Tarasenko and defenseman Nikko Mikkola. also some Salary retention for St Louis.

For the Rangers to get their rental RW and defensive depth for basically a 1st (Skinner is a decent prospect but blocked as a RHD), I am relieved.
A first plus more for a rental, seems high. They don’t have the cap space to resign him without dumping a bunch of other assets.

A first plus has been standard for a good rental for years . The plus here isn’t much.

I heard Rupp first talk about Tank a few weeks ago and why he’d be a great Ranger fit.
He said he’s 235 and as wide as an elevator door…lol.
Hope he still has gas left in “the Tank”
Does Mikkola play immediately?

Evidently he and Panarin are friends, so if it gets Panarin out of the funk he has been in it could be very productive. I don’t see any way he isn’t a big upgrade to Vesey on the first line, and I thought Vesey was a decent fit when he played with Kreider and Trochek.

If this Mikkola gets Harpur out of the lineup that can’t help but be an upgrade also.

Krup - You were the first person I thought of when I learned the news earlier. The biggest positive about the trade is saying farewell to Sammy "no goals" Blais.

I was super angry at first because I was fearing the return, but it's not nearly as bad as I was worried about. Hunter isn't much and is very undersized, and the first is what you'd expect. I don't like Tarasenko as a LT player, given his game and injury history, but being on contract year and for time frame, I could get it. It's absurd you need to find players to mesh with an $11M forward, but it is what it is.

All in all, I preferred they miss low on deadline deals this year rather than take a crazy big shot like Meier, so I can’t complain about this.

I can’t imagine the price on Meier now that Tarasenko is off the market and so many teams want Meier.

Gotta hope Tank can still play Kyk?
He's fine. You're talking about a guy had 34G/48A last year, is a sniper at right wing who is actually really solid on the board and in his own end and as recently as last year had 6 goals and 3 assists in 12 playoff games. He's also one of panarin's best friends.

He had a minor injury this year and still had 29 points in 38 games on a dogshit team. This is a tremendous trade.

the whole narrative that Panarin isn't good is so absurd. He is easily one of the single best free agent signing in Rangers history. Lets lay out his laundry list of accomplishments

- fastest ranger to 100 points
- most points in first 100 games as a ranger
- Fastest to 300 points in NYR history (faster than jagr, messier, esposito)
- He has 302 points in 237 career regular season games with NYR
- 18 points in 23 playoff games (Even though he played hurt all last postseason!)

And I get it, it's frustrating because his mind wanders at times but he is an ELITE talent. He just makes things look to easy and when he gets bored he really fvcks around but make no mistake, he is arguably the best free agent signing in franchise history.

Does anyone know anything about what type of d-man Mikkola is?

Eh. He's incredibly talented, yes. But his play has deteriorated since his red hot start few years ago. He tends to compile points against bad teams, he hasn't shown ability to make players around him better, and he must've been hurt, but other than PIT G7 goal wasn't a factor in playoffs.

Hope I'm wrong. And regarding his skill, you're talking to someone who idolizes Alexi Kovalev growing up. I respect it a ton but he's capable of making much bigger impact.

Big, stay at home, left defenseman. 26 or 27 year old kid, think drafted in 2015, and don't know contract status. Would appear to be upgrade on Harper on left of 3D spot.

Poor mans lindgren but bigger. Not as good as lindgren but same type of player. Eats shots, good on PK, good in defensive end but cant do **** on O. Hes a nice upgrade over harper and a solid 6th Dman

The 27 in my name is because of kovalev haha. Bread was hurt all postseason, well known. Again, hes arguably the best FA signing in nyr history.

The point he racks points vs garbage teams and stinks vs good teams is factually incorrect. 44 points in 50 playoff games in his career, which is .88 ppg. For perspective this is top 10 amongst all active players who have played at least 50 playoff games and dont forget who hes put those points up playing with. He single handedly saved stromes career and made copp look like a top 6 forward. Prior to playing with bread stromes career was basically dying a slow death and andrew copp was a career high 15 goals. He had 8 in 16 games with arty.

Whats happened to strome without bread? 25 points in 52 games.

Copp without bread? Back to who he is, 5 goals 21 assists in 49 games. Putrid.

Ugh. What is this and when did this happen?
It was announced around noon today. I think Zap might be right with the hand slash. The Devils have not said anything else. I posted it after I got an alert on my phone.

No matter what, Hughes needs to get stronger, and the NJD have to get bigger and harder to play against IMO.

I was looking at Tarashenko and Mikkola as possibilities for the NJD. If you don't mind the draft pick NYR fans, this is a great trade for you.

To answer some questions given my research before this happened. Tank is 31 and has regained some of his sniper ability. He has 19 goals, and still needs attention from the opposition. Mikkola is a tough defensive defenseman. His advanced numbers are good. He doesn't score much, but doesn't allow the other team to score much. Under the radar nice pickup.

Lindy Ruff said should be on the “shorter end” of week to week while someone else in the org (I don’t remember exactly who) said “it’s not a big deal at all”. Here’s to hoping

Tarasenko is nowhere near what he was years ago…but who knows what a change of scenery will do. Glad Devils stayed away from him. Should be all in on Timo now.

Obviously not much to speak of on the offensive end, but all signs point to him being physical. 3rd on the Blues in hits and blocked shots this year.
I saw a Blues fan describe him as a solid, physical, 3rd pair D, but that he plays as if he doesn’t realize cross checking is frowned upon (takes a few too many penalties).

Shesty will probably like that he keeps his view clear.

This one made me laugh. Not a fan of DUMB penalties; though I feel sometimes a player needs to take one.

During the pregame Dano said they have a cushion so they're being extra cautious and using it. Also Brendan Smith day to day with a lower body. Bahl in the lineup tonight

Not to mention, pound for pound, Bread is one of the toughest players in the league.
At 170 he carries his stick like a piece of iron, is incredibly strong on the puck at doesn’t take **** from anyone.

Not sure I agree with the need for centers. In a 3 year stretch the Devils got 2 first overall picks in Hischer and Hughes. I mean everyone wants for depth down the middle, but I don't think you're hurting at center. And, you guys locked up Hughes early; had they waited till THIS year I'd bet that price goes up.

Build around what's there, and you guys should be in great shape. The fact that a large part of the prospect depth are d-men is huge.
He evaluates the prospect pool as a whole and separate from the the needs and non-needs of the team, he's just saying the Devils prospects is weak at center.....and they are, fortunately the parent club isn't.
