That’s why I was asking. Lol. Have tix for game and I really want to see Hughes play. Devils are sort of boring and bland without Hughes
Well he's in the lineup did you end up going?
Sellout crowd tonight.

You’re doing goals. I was doing points. You’re correct with goals…he’s on a career pace 5v5. I was doing points. He isn’t:
On points 3rd best ever haha. But again, small sample size. We shall see

Thanks for the post. Sold my tickets. Had a family conflict. Will be at Tuesday game vs Montreal - with club perks- a la the Restaurant / Buffet at the Rock. Looking forward to it. Was there once before last year. Good food ! Mmm 😋

From hitting 3 posts in the 2nd, to scoring 3 goals in the 3rd, what a great win. The Rock is Dawson's Creek tonight, he scores 2 goals including the late empty net. Cue that theme music 😆.

According to a report from NorCal the NYR balked at the price for Timo, before getting Vlad Tarashenko.

The Canes could be a thorn in the Devils side, they will take Timo as a rental. Tom Fitzgerald is on the clock, I hope he has not boxed himself in a corner.

Devils are a very strong hockey club witb great overall speed, an elite player and some excellent goal scoring…from the back end also.

As Darryl Sutter recently said about the Rangers vs Calgary game in NY after the break….everyone made such a big deal about,

“This was the way it was every night when I played…you can go a series of games without seeing a strong body check today.
The guys are bigger, faster, there’s less ice and you’ve got to be strong, but there’s no hitting”

The Devils level of physicality is fine, no one is physical…they’re just big and strong

He had no chance on goal 1 and I thought he played darn good overall

Devils actually matched the physicality of Winnipeg

He didn't have a shot but that was his own doing though, his rebound control has always been terrible, you can't be an effective NHL goalie if you're leaving juicy rebounds after a save for the other team to pounce on and it's always been an issue for Mac.

If the Rangers would have acquired Timo it would have been just as a rental as they would have had zero chance to extend him past this year due to lack of cap space, so yeah for them the price to trade for him is not worth it. For us and the Canes it is since we can extend him.

But yeah, the Canes can trump our offer if they ever decide to part with Seth Jarvis and I believe there is a chance they might.

But before they trade for him they need to work out an extension with Meier, which is something I wonder if the Canes will be willing to pay him, this is the team who wanted badly to keep Dougie but offered him a joke of a contract.

Good points. With the way the market has gone, I wonder if Fitzgerald has painted himself into a corner by not being more proactive.

At this point, I think Grier has Fitz over a barrel, if the report is correct. It would be, well how bad do you want him? I expect the Sharks to get at least one asset that will shock most Devils fans.

It will be interesting to see if we hear more talk of a pivot to Domi. The fan site recently talked up Toews as Kane really is not a fit. Besides I read a report when the NYR got Tarashenko, that Rangers brass didn't like Kane's medicals, so they went to the Blues. Or maybe this sets up Henrique and Vatrono for the Devils. Fun time of year.

What report are you talking about? I don't think Fitz is moving Luke, Nemec or Mercer for anyone, my money is those are his untouchables, especially the way Mercer has picked up his game of late, the kid has the moxie and game of another Parise.

One player I'd hate to see go and it probably not an untouchable is Seamus Casey, that would be heartbreaking for me but if it brings Meier I'll live with it.

Meier is an elite forward and a perfect fit for us, but I don't know if I would be putting him in the tier of trading away the farm. If the Sharks push for the untouchables I think Fitz stands pat and moves on, and Henrique would be a nice Plan B and we'll wait till the next big fish comes along.

Meier is attractive as he can be part of the Devils core for the next 5+ years (along with Hughes, Hischier, Hamilton, Bratt, Mercer, L. Hughes, Nemec, Siegenthaler, Marino). That's a group you can win with if you are smart filling in the other pieces in a cost effective manner.

BUT...if the price for Meier is too expensive, there are other guys you can add to strengthen the team at a much lower cost, such as Henrique or Boeser or Domi, or I'm sure plenty of others.

Casey sounds like an exciting prospect, but I wonder if he is another Ty Smith. He isn't a big player and I wonder if he can physically do the job as an NHL defensemen.

BTW, it come out yesterday Toews is not on the market, he hasn't played since January and has health issues that need to be taken care of first.

Those 3 all play different styles than Meier and aren’t as good

Devils should stay away from Domi.
Boesser isn’t fast and that’s why Holtz can’t stick.

Meier is a great team player, David Quinn raves about his attitude and leadership

He's faster and more dynamic then Smith, the one thing that caught me and others by surprise about Smith is how slow he was for the NHL game, he can still be an effective player but he's not the talent most thought he was (including me).

Casey on the other hand, his skating and edge work is elite, it's not to far behind the Hughes brothers who are all exceptional skaters.

Not a fan of Boeser at all for the reason you state, he would be a bad fit for us.

Smith was a terrible choice by the Devils scouts. Not physical, not quick on his skates , doesn’t have a slap shot and he talks like he’s 9 years old.

Fitzgerald luckily flipped him for Marino but they left bigger, faster and better players on the board such as K. Miller

Devils should try to send out the lanky Russian defenseman in the KHL before Casey.

The Florida kid Casey has top-4 potential with top end offensive skill , skating and he’s tough for his size

Sometimes you have to give up value to get the piece you need

Muk is a fantastic prospect, but with an already pretty solid blue line and Luke and Nemec in the pipeline, he's become expendable.

I was talking about the report about the Canes. Fitz has said Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec are untouchable. My hunch is it would be a current Devils forward. Just a hunch I have, reading the tea leaves.

🎯 100%. This is why I posted about what I read from Sharks territory. While the other pieces are individually not as good, the Devils can mix and match and get the desired outcome they seek, quite possibly for less.

Fitzgerald cannot trade Mercer.
He’s a special player

If he gives up Sharagovich and a 1st for Meier , no one should complain.

He is not the player(s) I'm thinking of. Those would be Yegor or Jasper. Still not much movement in contract talks. So I'm forecasting possibilities.
Not a chance Bratt is traded this season

Devils need to solidify their defense.
Who’s available that can be had for a 3rd round pick ?

There has been talk it needs to be at least 3 premiere pieces. Add Holtz or another top prospect and the Sharks probably accept.

I agree with your last sentence, but Mike Grier wants to get building block assets for the rebuild. I hope I'm wrong, but I think the Canes are a fly in the ointment.

It is unlikely, but I think Fitz knows he can't lose him for nothing. Plus the salary cap is a thought.

Just think back to the off-season, I have had this sickening thing in my mind since they failed to sign him long term. I'm forecasting here due to the lack of a new long term deal.

I have to look at the defense. So much was written about how the Devils wanted Mikkola, I have not done a deep dive. I will start by looking at the Blackhawks.

Devils need to upgrade from Smith and they clearly don’t yet trust Bahl

McCabe was the Blackhawk I thought of. I wonder if Fitz is on Jakob Chychrun, I hope so. On Arizona also, maybe Shayne Gostisbeher. Last possibility, Cam Fowler.

We don’t need an offensive minded but very soft Ghost.

McCabe would be a nice addition.
Chychryn costs to much to acquire now

Bahl has been better with regular playing time. They have to be looking for a veteran defenseman.

Bahl could be ready to earn a top-6 slot next season but Fitzgerald and Ruff know that this team cannot go into the playoffs with Bahl & Smith as 6/7

those two will get eaten up alive and exposed as the teams weak link
