then explain to me why we aren't discussing how Horan was horribly misused and cast as a left sided MF in the group stage, when she was much better off as a free roaming #10. and because of this, her free roaming spirit screwed up our spacing and ability to 1 - move the ball effectively in attack and 2 - defend in any organized manner

or how the coach set the team up in a way where it was centered on Rose's skillset being the lynchpin in the middle of the park, despite her lack of fitness to start and finish games.

or how Morgan has lost, not just one step, but more like 2 or 3, but we had no other option other than sliding Smith centrally late in games.

or how Smith is really good on the ball, but a liability in defending wide areas and, aside from the Vietnam game, an atrocious finisher.

instead, all of these jokers want to talk about is the patriotism of the nat'l anthem. rapinoe's political views. how they think the players on the team feel and act...you people are all to blame. first, for bringing this crap up in the first place, and second, for continuing the discussion.

So please...@mildone or @vkj91 - your thoughts on my four points?
Gladly,
You can go back to almost any soccer post I've made since the Olympics and a common theme is I complain about three things
Coach sucks
Rapinoe Sucks
Naeher Sucks....I gladly ate crow yesterday and posted here that she played great yesterday. Now she should be done and we should let the younger girls compete.

Your first few points are covered by my the coach sucks posts.

As for Morgan, definitely has lost a step or three. You can look back at my posts pre world cup stating in summary "Another problem with bringing Rapinoe is now Morgan is your only real striker. If Morgan doesn't perform they don't have a real replacement for her. Then I linked an article agreeing with me and listed players they should have taken.

Smith was the second worst player on the field yesterday, but I will give her a pass because she's a baby.

I've also repeatedly stated that the person coaching our team should be the Nigerian coach. But nobody has commented on those posts, most likely because all the geniuses here have no idea who that is, what his resume is, or why they should have hired him.

Check out the images of the team before games rolling around like the are fashion models when the reality is most are very unattractive. Their uninspired play, protesting for more pay then losing more than any US team ever, lame commercials, I can go on.

Reality is it's sports. You open yourself up by being political and demanding things you never actually earned, well, you better deliver. Not only didn't they deliver, the got embarrassed.

I wouldn't pick on girl on that team to represent the USA again. They all sucked.
They were correct to want higher pay. Very, very successful team for a very, very long time--far more so than the men.
And Julie Ertz sucked? Really, do tell!

The men generate far more revenue and profit. So no, they don't deserve equal pay no matter how successful they are.

And they just lost in the round of 16. So they should give money back. The women before them were successful. This team is a failure.

I don't think I've seen the team play at all since the last world cup until the Netherland's match. So it's impossible for me to knowledgeably form conclusions about some of that.

Smith had good and bad moments. Not finishing well was a common theme for all the players, judging by the scores. Against the Netherlands, the team spent so much time in their final third and only came away with a single goal.

I thought the USWNT attack in the Sweden match was vastly improved over the prior two games. The players were more composed and cohesive. The mids played a lot more multidirectional, which fixed the tunnel vision from the prior game. Support play by pretty much everyone was much improved over the prior two games.

But most shots were either poorly struck (i.e. too weak) or else right at or near the keeper. There were enough opportunities. Gotta finish at a higher percentage to win.

Morgan has definitely lost some pace. OTOH, she wasn't horrible and I don't know the bench players. So I can't comment knowledgeably about who might've been better. Maybe she was the best option; I just don't know.

Rapinoe was slow and looked unfit. But she's experienced. Was that experience enough to warrant her being subbed in at such a critical point in the match? She missed her PK and didn't exactly provide a spark to the offense. So it doesn't look good. But to really know conclusively, I'd have to see her with all the other players in practices.
Mallory Swanson should have been the starter in front of Morgan, but she was hurt, and it hurt our depth. But, as the #1 ranked team in the world, we should have had SOME options that could have been thrown in there.

Christen Press is also hurt, but that's been a long-standing injury saga.

I think Rodman and Williams both showed they may be the best strikers we have... though I don't know if they both need to be on the right side. Smith showed talent but, I dunno, maybe a little dinged up? Maybe some poor choices? I think she can keep the left. Morgan though.. other said I was wrong criticizing here and they may be onto something.. when the whole team played better she looked better. I just don't know... but I'd bet Alex Morgan knows why she did not score this WC. Maybe she can extend her career and usefulness with a move to another position. This coach is known for making such moves with veteran players.

She is not a member of this forum. She doesn't even know this forum exists. Or that you exist.

Blaming her for anything that takes place on this forum is laughably delusional.
But you have people blaming politics for why Rapinoe gets criticized here just because people mentioned a distaste for her agitation moves while criticizing her play. So you have people supporting her here unduly.. because of her politics because her play clearly did not earn her any support. How can anyone argue that she played well? There has to be another reason why they support her.

Those short corners were set plays - to think she can't reach the goal is just dumb. She did misplay that long ball though.
You clearly don’t know how a short corner is supposed to be executed in or near the goal. Ertz’s reaction said it all. The ball off Rapinoe’s foot looked like piss dribbling from a geriatric patient.

I think she was on the team for her skills and leadership, as the coach (and many other players) said. I don't think she thought she wasn't ready and very few athletes late in their careers really know it before they've started declining. Also, Carli Lloyd complained bitterly in 2019 about not starting and playing the entire games and while she played well in a sub role, I doubt she would've played nearly as well playing full games at her age (she was a year younger then than Rapinoe is now), so I don't really think she knew she wasn't quite the player she was when she was younger.
Ummm... In 2019 Carli played every minute of every game she played for sky blue that season, 14 games, which included games before and after the world cup. Scored 8 goals.

How is that not proving your statement that she wouldn't have played nearly as well playing full games dead wrong.

Again trying to equate the 2 is so far wrong beyond what you are attempting to portray.

Not sure why you make **** up like you know better to make it seem like Rapino's situation had happened before, because it hasn't. She's special and made this team and was put into games for reasons other than her current soccer ability. Carli in 2019 is so far away from what happened this year except for her being a sub. Talent conditioning leadership etc Carli 2019 vs Rapino 2023 are polar opposites.

as a casual fan who only watches womens soccer during the WC and Olympics I have no idea on those points. This is a championship where you are representing your country, so be proud out there instead of acting oppressed. Women in Iran are oppressed, not in the US where they are getting paid to play a sport.

Performance as a team doesn't necessarily equal higher pay if revenue stream isn't there. See WNBA

And you still miss the point. Of course she injected politics into women's soccer, but that's not the point. The only point evolution and I are arguing is related to how this board is supposed to function, i.e., without politics in the threads. And the ones who usually (not always, but yes, in this case) violate that are the righties from the CE board. Do you not see that?

Good lord there are hundreds of posts from you snowflakes referencing the CE board on this board including ones from yourself

This makes no sense. How specifically does being successful at a sport that less people care about than others equate to your conclusion the players should earn more money?

Right? but he complains about everyone else.. how they are affected by Rapinoe's and others' agitations and what they have to say about it. If he really doesn't notice or care, why is he attacking everyone else who does notice and does care? It does not compute... it does not add up to "not caring". It adds up to the opposite.. caring enough to try to construct some kind of unassailable argument against the people who notice and care.

You either must be playing dumb, are dumb, or are trolling at this point. You don't know how she votes - really???? I am sure you could probably take an educated guess. All that proves is she was good enough to play for a club team in games that were nowhere near as competitive as a World Cup schedule, plus she was the biggest draw on that team, so it's no surprise that she played so much. However, the coaches only had her start one WC game and she subbed in the rest - playing well, of course.

I'm a huge Carli Lloyd fan, but clearly the coaches thought she was better off the bench, presumably due to her age, which is not uncommon for older players in WC's (like Marta and Rapinoe). Who knows, maybe the coaches and I were wrong - all I was trying to say was that it's not unusual for aging stars to play less. I didn't make anything up.

No kidding, you guys are very funny. 🙂

If I were trolling, which I'm not, then I'd obviously be doing a great job of it, given all the posts y'all are directing at me now. I'm almost as deep in your heads as Rapinoe apparently is now. Makes me wish I were trolling so I could rub the victory in your faces. But nope. I'm mocking you, not trolling you.

Anyway, where were we? Oh yes, now I remember. You were calling me dumb because, unlike you all-knowing geniuses, I don’t spend any time keeping up to date on all the viewpoints of any of the USWNT players.

Now of course, overwhelmed by the sheer brilliance of your criticisms of my knowledge and intelligence, I realize the error in my ways. I've clearly overlooked a critically important aspect of my education. The lives of our national soccer team players is a national security issue. No really. I mean it. It's very very very very important.

Such impressive posessers of immensely crucial knowledge you all are.

😂😂😂😂😂

This is great. Are y'all having fun? I sure am.
