You know it’s about that time when the big wave you’re concerned about in front of you has an even bigger one behind it.

Again, I was by myself today and have to say they are getting bigger.

It seems that all things at the beaches have been so much worse this year- never seen so many rescues and deaths on a weekly basis.

I was out there today and it was pretty rough and scary What scared me even more was seeing a little girl about 7-8 years old playing in the waves while her whole family was all the way up on the beach sitting in a circle and not one person had eyes on her.

Posts #6 & #8 are why whenever you see Pics of the President on the beach he's always surrounded, The ocean can be a scary dangerous place sometimes.

Must be in good shape. 200yds is pretty far out in the surf. Apparently my grandfather was a nut and would regularly swim in the Long Island Sound straight out and back.

Bigger and rougher. I was at the beach all week last week. I didn't go in past my thighs, and I was getting hammered. Strong undertow. You could see the rips forming. That's why they had red flags and lifeguards on ATVs going up and down the beach getting people out of the water. Yet there are still people who will complain "their taxes pay for the beach, etc. It's my right to use it." But they are also the first ones to call for help when they get in over their head (no pun intended.)

Live at the beach. Went to the see the wave action yesterday. Not the biggest surf I have seen but the ocean was angry. The waves were coming fast. Time between waves was anywhere between 5-10 seconds. There was no reason for anyone to be in the water.

Things are unsafe for swimmers because of the onshore stuff from the storm. Stuff is great for surfers but if you don't know what rips look like stay the HELL out of the ocean.

Rips look the most timid and will suck you out. I've warned idiots in person at the beach many times.

Adding to your comment. Not criticizing.

Boat capsized in Manasquan Inlet more than an hour ago with 5 on board. I've heard 4 rescued and 1 missing or 3 rescued, 1 missing, and 1 dead. Both the Point and Squan sides are full of emergency vehicles. 2 boats searching along with drones and flairs.

Just got back from a fire run into Belmar (nothing), radio in Manasquan is very active.

Yea have no problem with ticketing people that put first responders at risk. Saying it is illegal to padlock access to the beach. And the surf rider and saltwater fishing advocacy groups will have a field day with this. I remember the case where a family closed access to the beach. They lost their shirt.
You can’t have it both ways. They are being sued because some idiot drowned and said they didn’t tell him it was unsafe to swim

Yea been hearing the chopper for a while. Prayers sent. This isn’t good. Walked along the beach today. Was surprised how many boats were actively fishing in the inlet.
Sat on the beach for a couple hours today. Not a boat ventured out into open water while I was there.

Exactly. It’s awful that someone lost their life but jenkinsons the largest landowner and beach operator in point pleasant has insurance to cover their liability. They can’t restrict access to the beach. It is illegal.

The real issue is the town of point pleasant is not in the beach business they sold off that responsibility to Jenks and Martells years ago. Each beach front house assumes the same liability either by themselves or through their beach association.

Saw a schooner off the beach in Spring Lake. It was way out there.

Also saw the NJSP helicopter, some Ospreys from the Marines and a Dolphin helicopter from the USCG.

what was up with the lifeguard that dove in only to be surpassed by the waverunner seconds later? Seems to make no sense to me.

Saw them. What looked like a C-130 just came over low heading north.

Get someone in the water as fast as possible. You don't know how long it is going to take to deploy the wave runner. If you notice the wave runner picks up the life guard on the way out.
