I wonder if this is less about the PAC staying together and more about the B1G getting cold feet.
Yeah, I get it. But scheduling 1 West coast game per year not a big deal. Scheduling 2 or 3 per year, and then considering hoops and all the non-revenue sports, and it gets expensive and puts a lot of pressure and takes a lot of time away from the student athletes, who, mostly, except for a handful, are students first, and athletes second. Think about the number of football and hoops players who will actually move to the next level of pro sports, and it is not many. I'm sure I will get killed by some for my line of thinking.USC/UCLA already make that time zone thing true regardless of Oregon/Washington. There may be a stay or reprieve for now but I still believe it will happen sooner or later. I've always said timetables are hard to predict, except tv deal expirations are often a good guess. So if not now, some time in the future it will still likely come to fruition.
Maybe there will. Maybe there wont. Regardless, if they sign a GOR, they will be locked in again for a bit. Again, making decisions as an individual school with better options based on the sentiments for a conference on life support is short-sighted decision making IMO.The comeback to that is there will be opportunities later. IMO, this is not a now or never decision to move. A short term decision to kill a historical conference with a 107 year history would be a bad short-term decision just to make a few extra bucks.
Well the B10 moving was still predicated on Arizona/ASU/Utah. So those schools had to be the first dominoes regardless of how the B10 felt. If they don't fall, the B10 wasn't going to act.I wonder if this is less about the PAC staying together and more about the B1G getting cold feet.
if you have enough schools, no reason the Olympic sports cant play in regional pods. It doesnt have to be a one size fits all answer for all sports. Football and MBB vs the rest might look quite different from a scheduling perspectiveYeah, I get it. But scheduling 1 West coast game per year not a big deal. Yea..this is crazy…changing by the minute. Rumors that Arizona might now leave now when it was considered a done deal. That changes everything.I wonder if this is less about the PAC staying together and more about the B1G getting cold feet.
No conference will go near a school that isn't free and clear. But looks like FSU with an outside the box move might try to use private equity money to help fund getting out of their GOR. I posted it in the FSU thread.I think this is much simpler than a lot of you are making it. I don't think this is about Washington/Oregon making a bad decision not to jump. Washington/Oregon have been trying to jump to the Big Ten at least as long ago as the USC/UCLA departure. But the Big Ten is too busy digesting the latter two schools to want to take on more at this time. There's an additional problem with taking UNC or UVA: One can be liable for inducing a breach of contract, and so there is no way the Big Ten goes near any ACC school as long as the ACC's GOR is in force.
Arizona decided to leave last night, but ASU is blocking them since the ABOR wants to keep them together in the same conference or at least both have strong landing spots (i.e. one in B12, other in B1G)Yea..this is crazy…changing by the minute. One rumor I posted just now is that Oregon State and Washington State are willing to take reduced shares and give it to Oregon and Washington.Wonder if the Pac12 is offering uneven revenue shares…which would be lipstick on a pig. Can’t see Oregon or Arizona signing a GOR with the Pac12 and leaving all that money on the table.
Agree. Secure your future now, or degrade your program for the next 6 years and hope someone throws you a lifeline then? How does that makes sense?Staying would be stupid for any teams with options. What do they is think going to happen to their brand value with most of their games unwatched on Apple TV? Do they think ESPN and Fox will pay more for them in 6 years to reappear on linear TV?
Band-aid and unsustainable but OSU and WSU are desperate. One rumor I posted just now is that Oregon State and Washington State are willing to take reduced shares and give it to Oregon and Washington.
If the rumors are true, the B1G blue bloods were not on board.I wonder if this is less about the PAC staying together and more about the B1G getting cold feet.
Care to share wtf ABOR stands for ?wow ASU is blocking Arizona from leaving the PAC via ABOR
Arizona Board of Regents. I think one board oversees both schools as well as Northern Arizona. If the rumors are true, the B1G blue bloods were not on board.
Care to share wtf ABOR stands for ?
I'm guessing Arizona Board of Regents....they oversee both Arizona and ASUIf the rumors are true, the B1G blue bloods were not on board.

I'm not so sure if you see the Auerbach tweet and the Thamel one above. Sounds like the B10 might try to sweeten the pot.If the rumors are true, the B1G blue bloods were not on board.
FSU isn't the only ACC school that can raise a lot of money, and the ACC will not want to set a precedent of letting a school out. So the ACC would demand a huge price. Note that for all of the talk of suing to break the GOR, no one has actually done it -- that may say something about the odds of success. No conference will go near a school that isn't free and clear. But looks like FSU with an outside the box move might try to use private equity money to help fund getting out of their GOR. I posted it in the FSU thread.
That would be something to see lol.
There's something else here: the Big Ten would look bad leaving Cal and Stanford stranded, and the Big Ten does not want to take all four schools.I think this is much simpler than a lot of you are making it. I don't think this is about Washington/Oregon making a bad decision not to jump. Washington/Oregon have been trying to jump to the Big Ten at least as long ago as the USC/UCLA departure. That will be their only option if the Conference dissolves.might as well drop to MWC if they are going to do that lol
won't dissolve, they'd keep the PAC name and poach from the MWC and AAC which in turn will poach from CUSA.That will be their only option if the Conference dissolves.
