Interesting that 13 of the Top 22 are projected to make the majors this year. I'm pounding the under on that one. My guesses on who we see this year: McLean, Benge, Tong, Lambert, Ross, Pintaro.
The ETAs from Pipeline are normally the worst part. I don't even really look at them.

Who's down for the WBC? I for one am all in. Currently watching Chinese Taipei vs Australia, although I'll probably only give it another inning.

Love the World Cup type atmosphere. Chinese Taipei has a dance team cheerleading on the dugout roof!

USA first game is Friday night vs Brazil. Nolan McLean will start Game 3 Tuesday night vs Italy. He has already been told that if the USA makes the March 17 final, he is getting the ball.

In addition to McLean, the key guy to watch is of course Juan Soto for DR. Other Mets are Clay Holmes (USA), Hector Brazoban (DR), Mark Vientos (Nicaragua), and Jared Young (Canada). Plus a bunch of minor leaguers. The only one who currently has a prospect ranking is Nick Morabito (Italy).

And yes, I know that Edwin Diaz somehow got hurt jumping up and down. Don't care.

What is crazy/stupid- getting caught 2 years in a row. Even more so- when you have a guaranteed 15 mil even if you suck this year...Point 2 - MLB has obviously taken a fairly loose approach to "enforcing" this or players have found something else that is not detectable. Zero chance that this has not continued to happen...
The funny thng is- back when it all first started to happen- it wasn't even against MLB policy and yet- as much as the commissioner endorsed it- the players of that era are the ones that paid the price.

My son and I arrived down here late last night. We will be going to Marlins game tonight and the Cardinals on Saturday in Jupiter.

Then home games against the Yankees on Sunday and the Marlins and Cardinals again on Monday and Tuesday.

When walking around the Mets complex in Port Saint Lucie, who should we be checking out, @Zak57 and @Doctor Worm ?

Some of the higher end guys are still in major league camp but still a lot of prospects down there. Hard to list them all not knowing how they work things. I would just watch and talk to who you can then report back here!

On Edit:

Here is our Spring breakout player pool which should help as well!

Have a great time!!

Totally agree. Because the only time any pitcher has ever experienced shoulder discomfort is at the WBC. There is no possible chance that it could have happened had he not gone to the WBC.

Diaz injury F-d up the Mets for 2 years
So yea F-€k the WBC but go USA !

and pitchers most likely ramping up earlier then normal to get ready for WBC and go full throttle 3 weeks early
So yea F-€k WBC but go USA !

WBC = Diaz Disaster
The 2023 New York Mets struggled significantly with closing games, recording
28 blown saves, which tied for the most in MLB. This high number was largely due to the loss of closer Edwin Díazbefore the season, with the bullpen's struggles contributing to a 59% save percentage, one of the lowest in the league.

Clay Holmes' WBC line tonight: 3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 0 walks, 6 K's. No injuries caused by jumping up and down, which he did not do, at least not on camera.

Juan Soto with a walk off HR for DR!

Well sort of. Soto's HR came in the bottom of the 7th, to extend DR's lead over Netherlands from. 10-1 to 12-1. This triggered the 10 run mercy rule and the game was over. Does it count as a walk off?

The brackets are set up for USA to face DR in the semifinal. Talk about a tough out! Winner will likely get Japan in the final.

Former Met Ruben Tejada, who last played in the majors in 2019, just got a two run pinch hit off James Paxton, who RETIRED in 2024. Panama leads Canada 4-2 in the 6th. I love this tournament.

The problem, big problem with the WBC is the games don't matter until the semi finals. The talent difference in countries is too large. A "walk off" HR because of a mercy rule is ridiculous and something that shouldn't be exciting.

Yes next round gets better but hitting bombs off single a pitchers with 4-5 eras isn’t that exciting or mowing down and entire lineup of below average AA players doesn’t get juices flowing

now facing this lineup IS pretty damn exciting

Tatis
Marte
Soto
Guerrero jr
Caminero
Rodriguez

My take is different. To me, the group phase of the WBC is analogous to the early rounds of the NCAA tournament. Sure, you get some 1-16 and 2-15 mismatches. But you also get some 7-10 and 8-9 classics. In just one day (Saturday) we had THREE - Nicaragua vs. Netherlands, Panama vs. Puerto Rico, Chinese Taipei vs. Korea. Great games all.

Yes I know these teams are not among the top contenders. Don't care. I also know that the quality of play of these teams is not the highest. Also don't care. I love WBC.

I've caught bits and pieces of the WBC, but it hasn't drawn me in much yet.

I do like watching the Mets spring games, though. There seems to be a bunch of talent in the minor leagues, particularly on the offensive side. AJ Ewing has such a smooth swing and basically a smooth everything. Jacob Reimer swings with bad intentions and seems to have an idea at the plate. Benge is the hardest for me to figure, as he's smooth but never seems (to me) to be hitting the ball all that hard. But he apparently is. Baty's having a good spring from every angle. I'm gaining more respect for him. It's only spring, but Alvarez seems to be working his way toward the hitter we'd thought he'd be, something he started doing toward the end of last year. It'd be something if he can keep that up. All the new veterans seem like tough outs who just hit, with some pop, some contact, and good eyes. Bichette looks a bit wonky at third, but it's early. I haven't focused on the pitching much so far, which will obviously be key.

It was a very interesting off season, and so far it's been an interesting spring.

Yes the young prospect hitters have been playing well. Benge making that strong case to win RF job.

Manaea hasn't looked good but after that Senga, Scott, Peralta have been doing well. Holmes pitched well in the WBC and then McLean did let up those 2 homers yesterday. His stuff looked crazy good though he does have a little bit of a HR problem he'll need to work on. Ryan Lambert opened eyes with his heat. The pen arms we signed and/or brought in have been fine.

What was McLean's line ?
I knew the USA was in trouble when they started a rookie in the game vs. Italy.

Although it’s still early you have to think Benge goes north with the team. He has looked very comfortable and doesn’t appear to be overmatched in any way. There is no value in sending him to Syracuse.

The value would be in service time shenanigans if they wanted to protect that extra year. It's not my money though so if they feel he really is ready then by all means pencil him in that OD lineup.

No concerns about the AAA BA from last year. It was a small sample and by all means he was still doing a great job working counts and hitting the ball hard. He was running a .188 BABIP there which is abnormally low.

If it was a small sample in AAA, it also was in AA ,where he did well, in fact better than he had done at the lower levels. Are you ready to discount the small sample size at AA?

Listen, I like the front office with Stearns in charge, and I expect them to make many more good decisions than bad. I'm hoping Benge is ready for the majors, but it's no slam dunk. He was still playing college ball less than 2 years ago.

Yes you're right AA is a small sample as well. I am not discounting anything just saying the AAA BA doesn't concern me based on the underlying data. I never gave an opinion saying he should start in the majors. I said if the front office thinks hes ready then by all means but I would be fine if he got more AAA seasoning as well and beginning with Tauchmann and Baty in RF.

Manaea shelled again today while Tobias Myers goes 3 scoreless innings.
Maybe Manaea stays in FL for extended spring training and Myers is in rotation to start year?

Do we need 6 starters at the beginning of season?

Peralta, McLean, Holmes, Senga, Peterson
