I'm with you on War on Drugs. I only discovered them a few years ago and really like their sound. I'm not good at describing music but haunting and ethereal come to mind with them. Just looked at a couple of their live performances this week on youtube and they're great live. I didn't know until recently that Kurt Vile was with them at the start before going out on his own - I like some of his stuff and can see the connection.

I knew they were a Philly band and I don't know if they are considered a Philly sound but it struck me how different their sound is from the Philly sound when I grew up in So Jersey in the 50's-'60's with the Delfonics, Spinners, Stylistics, etc.
They got better and better since Vile left. And the band got bigger and bigger. Although Slave Ambient....the last album he played on by the band...is a pretty good album.
But it's mostly Granduciel....love his guitar. But the sound the band creates is awesome too. And he's created at least a dozen tunes that would make my list of all-time favorites.

Why would I do that ?
Anyone can just Google the band or the particular song and presto...lots of videos of tunes by the band appear.
Try it with the songs I already mentioned above or some of my many other favorites by this band.
Try Pain or Strangest Thing or Red Eyes or Thinking of a Place or Under The Pressure. It's real easy to do.
Or you could just Google The War On Drugs and you'll get access to pretty much all of their great tunes.
You don't need me to link it for you. It's easy.
Trust me, if I was able to do it anyone can.
BTW, you gotta try the live version of Harmonia's Dream. I was listening to it while I typed this and I swear I got a buzz. Awesome tune. I gotta go smoke a bone and listen to it with my headphones before the Army-Navy game comes on.

Satisfaction Skaank? - This ain't the Sherrone Moore thread.

Wow--Did not know Sk@nk was a prohibited word.

Interesting history to that song, apparently he's been doing it live since around 1999, but couldn't get permission from the Stones management company to put it out. Lots of pirated versions floating around.

There's a live version of Harmonia's Dream that's currently on You Tube from a show the band did last week in Philadelphia at a club called Johnny Brenda's. (y)
They did shows there on the 18th, 19th and the 20th. The show on the 20th included visits from Kurt Vile and Joe Walsh. After doing two of his own tunes, Walsh joined Granduciel for an absolutely awesome version of the Drugs' Under the Pressure. Both killed it with their guitar work. It's my new favorite thing to listen to.

Been listening to The Band Feel a lot lately. They started showing up in my Instagram feed last year and I went and saw them live when they came to town. I'm hooked. Got an old school Zeppelin Black Crowes-ish vibe. Just good ol' rock & roll.

This is AI generated and I ******* love it

The picture reminds me of Til Tuesday/Aimee Mann.

Sounds a derivative of Peter Murphy

or Iggy Pop, Candy.

Not hearing it. There is a real dark metal band called Oubliette from Australia that may want to have a word with The Oubliette's attorneys. Can an AI cease and desist letter be generated?

Below is a link to Rick Beato's video highlighting his top ten favorite songs of 25. I love the range and quality of the songs he picked, a few of which were also faves of mine this year, such as the Bon Iver, Been Stellar and Men I trust tunes, and I also loved the Rosalia, Addison Rae and Stephen Wilson tunes and the ones I didn't know were still interesting. Worth a listen.

I havenโ€™t heard any of these songs previously. I appreciate Rickโ€™s never ending quest to turn more folks onto jazz, a noble mission. I liked the songs by Mei Semendes, Bon Iver and Rosalia. My favorite newer band that I heard this past year is The Heavy Heavy, a UK band with a fresh type of retro guitar/soul sound:

New single release (I Got You) by The Tedeschi Trucks Band, which is my favorite current touring band. New album called โ€œFuture Soulโ€ coming out March 20th. Highly recommend hearing them live if you get the chance:

Just listed to this literally 10 minutes ago. I'll probably pick up the record. Big fan of TTB.

Geese on SNL over the weekend:

Looks like they were referenced much earlier in this thread, long before they really blew up last year (and before their frontman Cameron Winter released a solo album in late '24 that contributed to the blowup). I mentioned Vampire Weekend in here a few months back, and Geese opened for them for several dates last year. Safe to say their days as openers are done now.

Geese and Goose are two different bands?
Goose is pretty big, and if Geese is different, would think Goose would have objected. Anyway, new Juliana Hatfield. Nice to hear new music from her:

For the record, Goose was formed in 2014 in Conn. Geese was formed in 2016 in NYC. Iโ€™m familiar with the music of Goose much less so with Geese. Of what Iโ€™ve heard, I found some interesting sound from Geese which Iโ€™ll have to explore further. As I always say, โ€œWhatโ€™s good for the Goose is good for the Ganderโ€.

Been a huge and growing fan of MJ Lenderman the last couple of years (posted at least one of his songs in this thread) and he just got a pretty incredible accolade with his version of the This Is Lorelei song, "Dancing in the Club," being named Rolling Stone's #2 song of 2025 - it was certainly in my top 5. See the short blurb from RS below and have a listen.

And if you like that jangly, alt-country-indie sound, MJ Lenderman is also in a new band with Waxahatchee's Katie Crutchfield, called Snocaps and they're touring together as co-headliners and I assume will play Snocaps tunes, too. Really like this one, called Heathcliff, from the Snocaps album.

Thatโ€™s pretty good , reminds me of early โ€˜70โ€™s Southern California country rock. The guy is from a really good music town, Asheville NC.
