Nimmo approved the deal. It's done.
My initial thought is wow haha. Huge trade to start the off-season season. Long time Met leaving.
Semien is really good on D but his bat fell off big time last year. If he can pick that back up might be good. I guess no Jett at 2B this year? He's making more AAV wise but for less years being a FA after '28.

Meh player for another meh player. I guess Nimmo has more upside due to age and the fact Semien was god-awful at the plate last season.
Things I have read. Simien missed the last 5.5 weeks with an injury. Had 18 home runs and would have had 18 more home runs if he had played his home games at Citi Field due to the dimensions of the ballpark in Texas.
I don’t like it at all. Nimmo is about average in left field and hit .262 with 25 homers. He was a fan favorite. I don’t think it’s a good move. What do I know
Both have bad strike out ratio per at bat. I’d much rather have the younger better hitter than the older worse hitter
None of us know much to be honest. But here's what I do know. The fact that Nimmo may have been a fan favorite is irrelevant. Yes, the fans did like his aw shucks Wyoming country boy persona. You know what they like more? Winning.
If it wasn't clear before, it is now: David Stearns is not the sentimental type. Nor am I. At least not where my sports teams are concerned.
I also feel like he has a little bit of Ash in him. If you are not his guy, then you are not, “his guy”.
I don’t mind trading Nimmo but I assume there must be another move in his back pocket. We have a glut of infielders and very few outfielders.
Simien will obviously be at 2B. So, McNeil and most likely one of our younger infielders will be traded. I would hope for pitching but we have such a hole in the OF now.
I said this same thing pretty much in a response to Yes last week or week before. I want a winner. I root for the uni at the end of the day not the player. I appreciate everything Nimmo has done here and he was a underrated player most of his career. I trust in Stearns to get the best out of this organization.
Of course there will be more moves. It's not even Thanksgiving yet. A lot is going to happen with this team.
Will always respect Nimmo skills / loyalty and character.
But he was not clutch.
Can rarely remember walk offs or him getting a key hit in playoff runs etc.
Will also never forget the terrible AB he had on that Saturday in the nats series where we just needed a sac fly to win game and win via a great comeback and he failed !
Core unfortunately needs to be broken.

His other signings last year were horrible. Including the trade deadline.
the minors have improved under his- and that is a credit to his experience with the operations part of his job. I am not sold on his stock with talent yet. He inherited all of the key prospects so far…his big signing is Pena-so, we will see how that works out.

That's why so many of the people om FB haven't got on my nerves today. Talking about hell with this organization and they're done with the Mets etc. One even said it was the worst thing since trading Seaver. LOL. Over Brandon Nimmo. A guy who is not a franchise player. Has never been an all-star.
No one is crowning him a genius. I understood his thought process last year but yes it didn't work out. I hated his trade deadline as well. I still trust him big time.
To sum up:
1) We cannot view this trade in a vacuum. We will evaluate the off-season holistically in March.
2) But if one MUST evaluate this trade now, it comes down to one question: Do you prefer three years of Semien (and his contract) or five years of Nimmo (and his contract)? The Mets chose three years of Semien. I agree.

I can agree with contract status as well as judge it in March. But, this also makes it an absolute must to get an outfielder that is a plus hitter and fielder. Get us a Tucker or Bellinger - and while Bader is a heck of a player, we need one of the other 2. If not- bring in that bat/glove OF with another trade.
Then- go get our pitchers and not a group of retreads hoping they become serviceable. We have a rookie as our Ace.
I appreciated Nimmo, but his inconsistency drove me nuts. One hot week, then one month of strike outs and weak at bats.
I have heard on a few news opinions that the Nimmo trade may somehow mean the Met’s will try to keep Pete. Not sure how that adds up, but let’s say they do, then I think neither Tucker or Bellinger would be in play. So, in this case, how would you all feel if they went with Bader coming on a 2 year deal?
I'm not sure that I buy into the if/thens here. I'm willing to just watch what happens. I think, though, that one move that is planned is elevating Benge at some point his year, possibly out of the spring.

In other words, these offers suggest that the Mets value Diaz more highly than Alonso, which I think is true.
I saw a clip on Cohen, Mendosa, Stearns and couldn't figure out if it was last year or this year- it was on facebook, but who knows. But Cohen was taking about Alonso negotiations and said they have been very difficult based on the terms from Pete's side.

Very few teams are committed to winning like Cohen and the Mets. They are looking to actually raise their payroll this year. Nimmo needed to go. He doesn't do anything at a high level, but isn't a terrible player either. He doesn't hit for average, doesn't walk much, isn't fast on base paths, doesn't hit for enough power, not a clutch hitter, not a great fielder. He is pretty much close to average for everything.
Well, I’m ok with him going but this is actually the first year he didn’t have a great OBP. You realize, he has always been known for his ability to get on base.
BTW- At .262 25 HR 92 RBI 13 SB
Give me the list of left fielders that did better…
his fielding did go downhill but almost everything else you mentioned is about as wrong as you can get at least for this year. His BA can go up and down but he has been pretty consistent with good power and run production
Runner on second, hard hit single to Left field. Does Nimmo even try to throw him out?
