He was a SS then a 2B so hopefully he won’t ruin the season of the cy young front runner in June by over throwing the pitcher running to firstThat is a very fair question, given his inexperience at 1B.

Ummm no - run prevention is made up by Stearns to get rid of Pete.Is Polanco really a defensive upgrade at 1B over Alonso?
Help an old guy out here.Signed Jorge Polanco. 2 years $40 million. Will play mostly 1B/DH but can also play other positions around the IF. 132 wRC+ last year.
It stand for weighted runs created. In my mind and a lot of others the best hitting metric. 100 is average. Takes into account everything a hitter does and weights against all others and also includes park factors. Very similar to OPS+.Help an old guy out here.![]()
Lol that's not what anyone has said.I am so glad a good hitter is no longer a good hitter and a bad hitter is no longer a bad hitter...
What is the wRC+ or what ever it is - for Alonso or Nimmo last year. Please tell me Polanco does not have better than both?
Similar to OPS+, Weighted Runs Created Plus (wRC+) measures how a player’s wRC compares with league average after controlling for park effects. League average for position players is 100, and every point above 100 is a percentage point above league average. For example, a 125 wRC+ means a player created 25% more runs than a league average hitter would have in the same number of plate appearances. Similarly, every point below 100 is a percentage point below league average, so a 80 wRC+ means a player created 20% fewer runs than league average.
wRC+ is park and league-adjusted, allowing one to to compare players who played in different years, parks, and leagues. Want to know how Ted Williams compares with Albert Pujols in terms of offensive abilities? This is your statistic. wRC+ is the most comprehensive rate statistic used to measure hitting performance because it takes into account the varying weights of each offensive action and then adjusts them for the park and league context in which they took place[\quote]
Yes, last year- Polanco would be considered better per plate appearance except he doesn't play as much and for the career, Nimmo has been slightly better. But let's say he is better- his run prevention is similar to both Nimmo and Alonso- so really, Stearns just went cheap. Polanco/semien is not a positive yet. We just have second basemen playing every position.Lol that's not what anyone has said.
Alonso was better last year. Polanco better than Nimmo.
I only showed offensively he was better than Nimmo last year. They've both been hurt a lot in their careers. I think having Polanco on 2 years is better than Nimmo on 5 more considering injuries. Defensively I agree Polanco at 1B will be a question mark so it doesn't explain the run prevention comments. Wondering then if he DH's more and they're looking to move Vientos? I also think it's that Stearns doesn't like making long term deals unless they're unicorns for a lack of a better word. He doesn't mind giving money but he doesn't want to be locked up on years long term so there's more constant roster flexibility.Yes, last year- Polanco would be considered better per plate appearance except he doesn't play as much and for the career, Nimmo has been slightly better. Polanco vs Nimmo. 2 years vs 5 is fair. It does seem like that is the theme with Stearns.I only showed offensively he was better than Nimmo last year. They've both been hurt a lot in their careers. We can take it move by move but as I've been saying there's so much off-season left that we need to see what we end up with.
I appreciate your longer response this morning and I hope to address everything but I've been on my phone so writing so much on here hasn't worked out yet.
Noted…same concept. To clarify, Semien has three years left, not two.
The pitching coach and free passes were correlated. The Hefner philosophy was hit your spots, keep the ball off the barrel and in the park. If that means walking people, so be it.Noted…same concept.
now, would love to hear Stearns address the real run prevention- and firing the pitching coach wasn’t it.
How about our pitchers stop giving free passes to hitters?
This is the thing- I’ll give the smirking genius this off-season to make this a deep into the playoffs team. But until he addresses pitching- it just ain’t happening
Do tell. Who is this 2B at 3B?So- currently- we have a 2B at 1B, 2B at 2B, 2B at 3B, 2B at LF and 2B for most of our bench and 2B for most of our prospects.....
I think I see the plan...Outside of catcher, traditionally the weakest hitting position should field all of our spots...
He's a 3B who had never really played 2nd before last season. Nice attempt to try to change that to fit your narrative though.Baty
Cripes- I would hope that was obvious- a sarcastic bit just to play to that narrative. I know he is mostly 3B but trying to add aa little humore...though- sarcasim aside- the fact that he did play 2B last year and until they got Semien- that seemed it may be the narrative for this year. He's a 3B who had never really played 2nd before last season. Nice attempt to try to change that to fit your narrative though.
Draft pick attached with qualifying offerWonder why Mets did not make Final 3.
Were Mets not strongly interested or are years / dollars too much?
Would be a shame to give up a mid round pick for a proven starter. Makes sense.Draft pick attached with qualifying offer
Sheepish grin
Not my opinion just thought I’d share for those who hate the Milwaukee moron’s smile
The Stearns era is starting in earnest next season. If it was up to him, he would have dismantled this loser core 2 years ago.If the Mets sh*t the bed by winning less than 70 games, how much more of this Stearns BS will Cohen allow?
The funny thing is- it is more likely we see that "loser core" in the playoffs next year with all three being core to their success than we have a chance to see The new Stearns core in the playoffs this year. The Stearns era is starting in earnest next season. Yep- Siri part 2.Phillies sign Adolis Garcia ( 1 year $10 mil) and Mets go deep sea fishing and sign Christian Pache.
Win / Win.![]()
It's a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. A depth move. No biggie.Yep- Siri part 2.
mans why go for a defensive OF with no bat when we have Taylor? Makes no sense at all.
They just read the headlines and dont even bother with the details. It's a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. A depth move. No biggie.
It seems like Stearns is signing nothing but sidekicks and no superheroes. It's a minor league deal with a non-roster invite to Spring Training. A depth move. No biggie.
Let's revisit this question in March. If it hasn't been answered by then, I'll be right there with you.It seems like Stearns is signing nothing but sidekicks and no superheroes.![]()
How many Robins can you sign with no Batman in sight?
