For those keeping track of Jarred Kelenic (which I did, so you don't have to), he signed a minor league deal with the White Sox.

Ain't no such thing as a can't miss prospect.
Funny...when I was back in high school (a long, long time ago) our friend and neighbor told me that his older brother who was in the minor leagues was always talking about this catcher down there who was a can't miss prospect. The guy's name was Bench....Johnny Bench.

I could post 47 stupid sources “believe” Mets now in lead for _____ or post something silly that might be a chuckle
Actually, I get it. Team just has me frustrated as hell.
What we are the lead for is how far behind tge Braves and Phillies we finish.
But at least we got contracts that expire in a couple of years.

ok- so- I’m going to call it for the Stearns game plan. He may still sign a couple of big name FA’s but he is going to wait until Feb/March and get them on a 1 year opt out contract and no matter how good they play, he lets them walk the next year.
Mets had the biggest jump in attendance that the league may have ever seen last year. But that was Soto, Lindor, Pete, Diaz.
What we should recognize now- that was a loss leader for a casino.

Don't think they're going to sign a QO player to only a 1 year deal since you lose the draft picks and international money. I'm assuming we see 1 of the bigger guys whether SP or bat sign to a more lengthy deal.

Sounds like Mets are trying to get 2 of the following 4 as cheap as possible

Valdez or Suarez
&
Bellinger or Tucker

OF’s will be offered 3-120 4-150/160
Higher AAV instead of long term deal

The Mets have deep pockets (Cohen), but short arms (Stearns). That's never a good combo when trying to win. You can be competitive, but never enough to win a World Series.

The Stearns fans ignore this- Stearns pulled off playoffs for Milwaukee but never had a team win it.

The current Met team may be a .500 at best team...Unless, a handful of young players or castoffs that were signed to minor league contracts have really good years. Then, we maybe reach the playoffs.

We hear that the payrool is not going to be going down- but I am also sure that includes dead money we still owe to players like Montas and paying a good portion of McNeil and bringing in higher but shorter contracts of Semien and Polanco. So- it is all smoke and mirrors.

Stearns is currently running us like a small market team and if he could unload a Lindor and or Soto- he probably would.

He would have been the perfect GM for the Wilpons. As for Cohen- it is very clear that the Met's were his loss leader to get his casino. Now- they become a cost rather then an investment.

We are fans- and as fans, we really just want to be able to enjoy our fandom- we want to win and we also love the back of the baseball cards as well. Stearns mission is to have player contract control and win as much as possible while he does it. There is no championship aspirations with him. Yes, he and Cohen would love for the 3 young pitchers to all become super successful until they can unload them before they get to their big contracts and same with the young core of position players, and then do it again. But so many things have to break perfect- but, as long as he wins enough to be relevant, and the casino is making billions- this is what we will be dealing with for a long time. And it isn't fun

Yes the life long Mets fan GM who is from NY doesn't want to win a championship for his team for the first time in 40 years.

Payroll will be at $340-$350 and can go even higher that that so the casino has nothing to with it either. Roster flexiibility is a good thing not a detriment that you make it out to be.

He will take a championship. But he is not building a championship team...He didn't build one in Milwaukee either.

And most fans would give up some flexibility if it means having a better team. Let's see how it looks by the time the season starts but shopping for bargain basement deals for a team with unlimited finances...ehhh And I haven't seen many of his deals work out to well yet either.

He wants to build a championship organization and that doesn't happen overnight. He'll have winning teams and he certainly has championship aspirations, it's a joke to suggest otherwise.

up until now- he has made poor trades and signings and this year it is all about expiring contracts and band aides. As fans- are we really supposed to watch the Dodgers, Braves and Phillies just reload and be that far ahead of us for the next unforeseeable future? Tell me please, where you see him as this savior to us. The minor leagues are now stocked. Oh boy- let's wait for them all to come up or make more horrific trades with them. Like I said- let's see him pull off anything before the season starts that we say "brilliant". I am hoping I get to eat crow. I just don't see it as the other teams are stock piling superstars.

A couple of updates:

Max Kepler, who had been mentioned as a Plan B Mets target, just got an 80 game PED suspension. The market for his services just cratered.

Ryne Stanek signs with Cardinals, terms unannounced. It's really a shame he wasn't very good. If he were, I think he would have become a Mets cult hero, kinda like Turk Wendell.

Nick Madrigal, a 2025 Phantom Met, signs a minor league deal with Angels.

Bellinger at impasse with Yankees

Do Mets go after Bellinger albeit it would minimally take 6/200 or 7/210 ish or do they wait for the last man standing - Tucker ? Who knows term / aav would cost with Tucker ?

I think Stearns waits until the trade deadline in July and sees where they are in the race. Then they go balls out with trades.

No chance he accepts less than seven years, is there?
It depends. I think there is a chance at a high AAV. It could also be something like Soto where he has an opt out after a certain amount of years but the team can override it by adding $5 million a year or something.

It may look like the deal Bregman signed with BoSox last year. high AAV but an optout almost immediately

Pipeline is starting their top 10 position prospect lists today culminating in their new top 100 list coming next week. I'm sure there will be Mets all over.

The international signing window for the 26 class begins Thursday and the Mets are expected to sign a few of the higher rated prospects there as well. The big sign will be Wandy Asigen who we took from the Yanks. The Texas Rangers are coming in late and trying to steal him but he's expected to stay with the Mets. Anything can happen though.

Here is the first Pipeline list ranking the top 10 RHP in the minors.

  1. Nolan McLean, Mets (2026)
  2. Bubba Chandler, Pirates (2026)
  3. Trey Yesavage, Blue Jays (2026)
  4. Andrew Painter, Phillies (2026)
  5. Seth Hernandez, Pirates (2028)
  6. Ryan Sloan, Mariners (2028)
  7. Jonah Tong, Mets (2026)
  8. Travis Sykora, Nationals (2028)
  9. Jaxon Wiggins, Cubs (2026)
  10. Carlos Lagrange, Yankees (2026)
