Greene and Skenes are going to be putting up zeroes in Cinncy unless one of them cracks or gets lifted. Two absolute stud pitchers.

Mendoza announced that Sproat will start on Friday. No surprise. Saturday and Sunday remains "we'll see".

Y'know, the more I think of it, the more perplexed I am about the Siri DFA.

Yes, he has been terrible. But the sample size is SO small. Can the Mets really have ascertained that Siri is not the player they thought they had acquired?

I guess they really didn't want to burn Mauricio's option year.

Mets put Jonah in several high pressure starts and 2 have been a disaster. Hopefully this just helps him mature faster without losing confidence

Prior post was because the Bucs closer just gave up a game tying home run in the bottom of the 9th. That's what we've been reduced to tonight. Counting on the last place Pirates.

Look in the mirror Stearns

Reds were demolished by A’s getting swept
Gave up 10 runs 3 straight vs jays
Just Lost first 2 to pirates

And you still can’t secure the final wild card spot

MUST WIN tomorrow
Alcantarra Friday night

One small positive this weekend
8,500 fans in Miami and 5,000 will be Mets fans

3-1 Dodgers after 6. Blake Snell pitching and at 95 pitches so im guessing he's done. And from there all bets are off because the Dodgers bullpen is shaky.

I still can't wrap my head around how every single veteran starter has become batting practice. I am not talking about Tong either, this kid should not be in this position. But I still can't wrap my head around Peterson/Manaea/Senga/Holmes just becoming worthless all about at the same time.
Now, it is McLean and Sproat and hope for rain...

Really odd.
Interesting thing- and I think it ties in to the way we pitch - I forget what team it was but there was a series where Tong was having his 2nd start- I think they took the first 20 pitches or something like that and it threw him totally off- they did the same thing with Sproat the next game and he pitched through it for a good game. Maybe it is as simple that the league has figured it out and you sit on a pitch over the plate and everything else will be just off the plate.

BTW - A team who has the best hitting 1B/SS/OF in the league should never be in this position.

And random thought- I wonder what the best team steal % is for any team with over 100 stolen base attempts. We have stolen 142 out of 160 attempts. That is a crazy success rate

Don't mean to pick at nits, but we don't have the best hitting SS in the league. That would be Geraldo Perdomo.

I do agree that this season is a head scratcher.

Mets much like Rutgers football. Offense, defense (fielding) and special teams (pitching), are complementary. Have had very few games where all three have produced at a high level, and multiple games were 2 or more have been subpar. Pitching turns in a stellar performance, and run production is minimal to non-existent. Or offense/hitting is strong, but pitching gets hammered. Weird for a team that at the beginning of the season seemed stacked and ready to dominate.

It is really close- but at worst or best- they may be dead even. Perdomo leads him in RBI and BA...Lindor leads in Runs, HR, SB - this is also the first time Perdomo has even come close to these kind of numbers which are not much better(IF) than what Lindor averages every single year. We have the best hitting SS in the league.
There are 2 sure fire first ballot HOF SS's right now with current stats- Betts/Lindor, Turner is on the cusp and Witt is still too young. Lindor is still producing at HOF levels- so yes, best hitting shortstop in the NL

Oh your sarcasm was clear, I responded in kind.
Speaking of McLean- the start to his pitching career is equal to or better than Skenes- is it tge L Dunne factor or just because he was the number 1 pick why it isn’t getting the same attention. Same with the tall skinny kid who made the AS game after 4 starts.
Seems like national media just hasn’t picked up on McLean.
And he needs the best game of his life today…

pitching- just like Alonso, we need to make sure we keep Diaz..,

Assuming that Stearns/Cohen want to keep Diaz, as I believe they do, I am quite confident that they will. Adding two guaranteed years to the contract, perhaps preceded by an opt out, should do it. Maybe all it will take would be to guarantee 2028, which is currently club option.

Would not be shocked if this gets done in the five day period before free agency starts. It has happened that way with Diaz before.

I don't mean to sound jaded, but nowadays that is a catch that a MLB outfielder is expected to make. The key was that the ball was high enough for him to get back to the wall and time his jump. If you can reach it, you should catch it.

I was more impressed with Jacob Young's robbery of Alvarez on Sunday. That ball had less hang time. Young had to sprint back to the wall and leap off the dead run.

Goes without saying how big the Mets game tonight is. But also important is the Phils game tonight. Need them to win to stay on the Brewers heels because we want Milwaukee going hard this weekend against the Reds.
