I am thinking that we make be able to safely say that Alonso is "Raking" - 2nd in MLB in total XBHs .365 BA tied with Judge for RBI...
The last couple of days, I've been watching and thinking, "now, he's raking." It's largely a result of his better approach at the plate, which has so far kept him out of the bad habit of reaching for balls low and away and over-eagerly swinging under high fastballs whenever he actually gets one. But, regardless, he's locked in. The trick now is not to lose his disciplined approach.

By the way, Soto didn't run hard the whole way down to first on the bang-bang double play in the fifth.

In regard to Pete- amazing he is on a pace for less than 100 Ks…
As bad of a walk year as he could have had last year…maybe we should have locked him in for a few more years

Early though.
I always look at it differently. Pete has most likely been on a 120+ K rate at every point of his career. And while he has had better HR streaks- I am not sure if he has ever had a length of time of being this good of a hitter.
He has put himself in a place that over the rest of the season- if he drops down to his last year numbers- he would still be at very good numbers- if that makes sense.
But man- he really is locked in. And if you ever notice- guys that get locked in like this- tend to also get the lucky pop up that drops between everyone else

Don't want to pile on, but have noticed him not running hard down the line on several occasions. The radio broadcast crew has commented on this.

I hadn't heard the radio team comments, but I definitely saw Soto slow down and then speed up on the double play ball that he hit with the bases loaded in the 5th yesterday. It was a bang-bang play at first and, if he was safe, would have meant a run.

Soto is not the type of guy I love as a baseball player. So many skills in his bag but he just never busts it like he has to earn it. It's funny- because a guy like Alonso has a lot of skills but not at Soto's level but he busts it ALL of the time.

with that said - just like we know Pete will not keep his pace all year and end up .350 with 40+ HR and 150+ RBI
Soto is not going to end up batting under .250 with under 20 HR and 70 RBI.

Of course it's early but not a lot of good numbers from those minor league hitters. Reimer and Ewing have come out blazing however.

Mets call up Jose Azocar to be their backup CF. Had spent the last three years up and down with the Padres. Good glove, no stick.

Siri to IL as expected. Hagenmann down, Kranick back up after a one day hiatus. Normally if you option a pitcher to the minors, he has to stay down for 15 days. But the Mets took advantage of a loophole by which you can bring the optioned pitcher back early if he is replacing an injured player. So technically, Kranick is replacing Siri and Azocar is replacing Hagenmann.

Sounds like he really misses Captain Judge.
Don't you mean Aaron MisJudged?

They would even put up with dropping that easy fly ball if he could hit in Oct...
Question - At this point in time, who would you rather have on their current contract? Judge or Soto? The guy producing on the reasonable salary and contract length or the guy off to the slow start making twice as much a season for twice the length of contract?

Or I could have both and still not win a WS hehehe

Anyway- I am a huge fan of Judge. And I am not paying either salary myself.
